Reserved based on location and prices offered. Reviews we had seen were very positive and were confirmed during our stay. Yes the hotel is a little long in the tooth and there are some issues like worn rugs in the bedrooms but they had little impact on our enjoyment of the hotel. It is well located close to Arenales and...

Well situated good looking building (from exterior). Unfortunately once inside it becomes clear that this is a dated building with crowded, slow and antiquated elevators. The rooms we had was spacious but the furniture was old and the beds mattresses provided very little support. The bathroom while functional was crowded. The breakfast buffet was the best feature and at euro...

Had a 4 day stay in Madrid. Hotel reasonably priced . Quiet square so no traffic noise at all at night. Breakfast varied to suit all tastes. Room spacious enough Hot, plentiful water for the bath! Location perfect for all sightseeing. Great stay.

The hotel is in a great location. You're within walking distance of the historic sights - the Palace, the Opera, numerous cathedrals and monasteries, the oldest restaurant in the world, as well as the best churros with chocolate in Spain. The hotel is also near plenty of shopping areas and local tapa restaurants. There's also a wine store right around...

This hotel is well located in a quiet plaza but close to Plaza Mayor. The staff at reception are friendly and helpful. The hotel itself is an old building that has been well maintained. Our room , 308, was clean and comfortable, overlooking the terracotta roofs of the buildings nearby. Water pressure was good in the shower. The bidet and...

I loved staying at this hotel. It had lots of old world charm and fixtures. The rooms are a little cozy and require and upgrade, but they were clean and delivered on all our needs. The location is very conveniently located close to the shopping and main square, yet hidden away enough to remain quiet. Breakfast was wonderful, and more...

We didn't exactly have a leisurely arrival into Madrid rather we hurtled at breakneck speed, traffic conditions permitting or not, into town in a taxi from Madrid airport. I suspect I have been more scared in a car, maybe on the Amalfi drive turning a blind corner to be confronted by a rather large tour bus heading rapidly in my...

Our last stop on our Spain trip and a great way to finish off. This place is pure old luxury; a beautiful building with an antique elevator and deluxe rooms that make you feel like the guest of royalty. Everything was posh and the service was great. The outdoor cafe was perfect for a drink at the end of the...

We booked the Intur Palacio due to its fantastic location and we weren't disappointed with that. Minutes walk from the main shopping malls and restaurants, it's really hard to beat. We booked in early, and check in was fast without being greeted warmly by check in staff! We were allocated room 405 which is served by an efficient lift. This...

Staying in Centro

Neighbourhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
