The room was clean but I have stayed in two hostals in C/Atocha that had much nicer rooms and for the same price. However, its cental and does the job. The staff were not mega friendly and I did speak spanish to them. Neither were they unfriendly. To people that say its noisy get used to it: This is Spain....

We arrived after midnight very tired and were amazed and disappointed with the staff as anyone on the reception did not speak English! Not even a word! It turns out that our room window faced another building and we did not see anything apart from the surrounding walls. The air conditioning was working but with no possibility to set it...

Lot of comments on Nuria... Here's mine. I booked directly on their web-site for 31Euros/night. The hotel is very easy to reach by metro Tribunal, very central position. I have found the people very professionnal, sympathic, always ready to give indications. So the comments on rudeness did not apply, but, was it because I was speaking spanish all the time?...

If this is a place that you need for just one night, it might be suitable, but I would not stay here for longer or ever again. The staff is not pleasant. They hardly smiled or greeted you. The next morning we went to get some breakfast and came back with our room cleaned and all our items gone. They...

My roommate and I stayed there for one night. That was the first time I had ever been to Europe and the staff was very friendly and helpful to us. The area in which it's located is a little seedy, but it wasn't too bad. The rooms are small and the shower was odd, but it wasn't bad for the...

I'm disappointed with Hostal Nuria for a whole host of reasons, but my main complaint is the appalling customer service we received. I could perhaps have coped with the small room, grubby toilets, lack of running water for a whole day and the noisy drunken groups of schoolchildren who descended on the place every weekend, if the staff had at...

I reserved the room via the hotel's own website. And then I need to cancel it. I called the hotel, and the staff told me to process hte cancellation online. But the hotel's website has no such section. so I called again, then she told me she just did it for me. I received not confirmation for this cancellation and...

This was by far the cheapest place I found for a single room with shared bathroom in such a central location. I should specify that it is shared toilet, because the room did actually have a bathtub and a sink. The room was pretty sad-looking but the biggest problem I encountered was the noise, due to the fact that the...

This was a horrible place to stay. The room we got looked nothing like the picture on the website. It was like a dungeon, with lumpy beds and pillows wrapped in plastic. The tile in the bathroom was covered in mold, and the staff was unfriendly and mostly didn't speak english. Also they lock you in the hotel at night...

Avoid at all costs. Staff members were very rude and even took to threats. Rooms had a bare minimum which was expected for the price. However, customer care is non existent and any requests were met with a hand in the face. Unreal! AVOID!!

Staying in Chueca

Neighbourhood Profile
Chueca
Chueca is the hip, gay neighbourhood of Madrid where many of the streets are narrow and intimate, but where the hustle and bustle and the eclectic storefronts and people give it a distinctly urban feel. The main thoroughfare is Calle Hortaleza and the main square is Plaza Chueca, completely filled with terraza tables serving copas (mixed drinks) during summer. A mixture of trendy and grungy, some of the adult businesses here are explicitly racy in their signage. From the rainbow flags to the signs above the entrances of its many funky bars, to the date spot restaurants, Chueca is a vibrant and colorful place. It's always interesting to explore the different corners of Chueca by day, and by night, the area becomes a major nightlife destination when the clubs open their doors.
