Detailed Reviews
We enjoy staying at older, grand, stately hotels and Hotel Felix Gran Melia did not disappoint. The lobby lounge area is impressive. The rooms are dated but in an old elegant way. Excellent massages at their Thai spa. Amazing bar with professional bartenders sort of putting on a show while mixing your drinks, we went a few nights in a row and I would stay there again just for the bar experience! Great location, nice area to walk around with a wide variety of shops including affordable (multiple Zara flagship stores) to higher end. Salamanca is a gorgeous area of the city. We didn’t include breakfast when booking because we were going as a family of 6 adults and some of us sleep in and miss breakfast or prefer to walk around for a small bite and coffee. However, one day three of us just wanted to stay at the hotel for breakfast. It was a buffet I would describe as mediocre. We were shocked at the price of 40 euros per person for what they were serving. Also we were seated out of the main dining room and it was hard to get attention of waiters for drink orders (coffee…tea, etc).

A true five star hotel that lives up to all five stars! The hotel is truly a good value for what it cost and that you get everything you expect in a five-star hotel plus more.
The staff, from the moment you enter the building until you leave, is courteous, helpful and always smiling. They truly made our trip even more enjoyable.
The room was magnificently appointed with great amenities and perfectly maintained.
The grand Melia is in a perfect location to see everything you want to see on a trip to the city. It is within walking distance of the museums, the palace, the park, and the cute little neighborhoods that will catch your attention.
This was such a great experience, and I highly recommend this hotel!
I will stay here on future trips to Madrid.

It’s not the best month since they say it’s all complete but it’s the month they use to make arrangements because August is very hot and cities are not the preferred places to go. We took a room for 3 adults, with 3 beds we had to change 3 times because they were all veryyyy small. We take the upper level (I don’t remember the name) where you can have a private lounge for snacks and the possibility of eating something at any time. It didn't work because it was being remodeled and they gave it in the
Bar, really regrettable.
After that, the old room but good, good bathroom and good breakfast.
The reception girls attentive and trying to solve everything.

I have come to this hotel several times over the last few years. On the last occasion, details that are not, in my opinion, in line with the price paid or with the high luxury quality:
When I get to the room I notice that the amenities, always from the Clarins brand, have disappeared. They have put the Carner brand. That is not the problem, but the fact that they are in fixed refillable dispensers. It doesn't seem at all consistent with a 5*GL to me.
From the second day onwards, the few things that are replenishable (cotton pads, lip balm, etc...) are not replaced after being consumed.
But the most discouraging thing has been at breakfast time. Orange juice has always been natural. And, in addition to the wide variety of products on display, it has been possible to order hot dishes (omelettes, sandwiches, etc...). Well, now only what is visible is included in the breakfast price. That is, kitchen orders are overpriced. And fresh orange juice, too. These services are only included in the red level. Not to mention that with the change of room in which it is dispensed, intimacy has been lost, the linen tablecloths, silver cutlery... In short, things that were from GL and characteristics of this hotel. I understand that you have to go to the next level, red level, to continue having it.
As for the cocktail bar, now outside the Javier de las Muelas label, it is better not to comment. The same people who serve tables and distribute dishes provide cocktails. Now yes, the prices are even more expensive. For example, premium tonics cost more than eight euros, which makes any gin and tonic more than twenty. And without any special preparation.
In short, all of them are details that have made me decide not to stay at this hotel again. There are many better options given the cuts they have made.

The room did not lack any detail. Everything you could need was in that room, from a hair straightener, scale, umbrella, jewelry box to store the jewelry in the safe, hand-held steam iron... When we arrived they upgraded us, and the room we had was The reservation was already a premium room, and since it was our anniversary they had the detail of offering us strawberries with chocolate and champagne, a box of violet candies. For a romantic getaway, or to stay in the center of Madrid, with everything very close, the hotel is ideal. The staff, of course, are very friendly and very dedicated to making your stay more pleasant. Without a doubt an experience to repeat.

This hotel really is excellent.
The style is classic luxury - but the truly impressive feature of this hotel is the staff. Little touches such as returning some lost items to our room with a handwritten note whilst we were out, and neatly laying out our cosmetics for the evening at turndown service really underline the elevated experience provided by the wonderful staff.
The breakfast buffet is one of the very best we have experienced - delicious food, and highly personalised service.
The hotel is also in a great location for the upmarket Serrano shopping area - a little more relaxed than some of the other areas of the city.
Our only complaint was that our room was very warm - although October, the air conditioning did not seem to be working particularly effectively. Luckily we were able to open a window.
Overall we had a wonderful stay, and would not hesitate to stay again.

Loved Hotel Fenix! Perfect location in Madrid, great staff, excellent food/bar and will visit again!
Our stay at the Hotel Fenix was our first in Spain and we were here Dec 22-27, 2023. What a wonderful experience! We picked the hotel for the location in Salamanca that is close to everything in the center of Madrid….but also away from the busy areas of tourism where it is more quiet and relaxed. It was exactly the location and hotel that we wanted! Malena treated us superbly on check-in and worked to have our room ready early since we arrived on an early morning flight from the U.S. Michel took very good care of us in the restaurant and bar. All of the staff were excellent in our opinion. We booked the reservation through our American Express Travel membership and it came with many extras that made the visit special. The hotel is only about a 20-30 minute walk from most of the tourist areas of Madrid like Sol, La Latina, Plaza Espana, etc. A taxi is low cost and will take you most places nearby in 10 minutes or less.
We did have an issue with the room on the first day of our trip. The hotel staff was quick to take action and resolved the issue quickly.
We will definitely stay here again on a future trip to Madrid. We loved the hotel and the city!
Thank you Hotel Fenix!

I spent the night in this hotel in November 1966. If at that time it was already a formidable Hotel in Madrid, today not only has it not lost a bit of its quality, but it is located in one of the best accommodation establishments in said hotel. city. After frequenting a Hotel on Velázquez Street for more than 40 years, we changed this time for the Fénix Hotel.
We stayed eight nights at the end of last February, from March 23rd to March 2nd.
resounding success!
The comfort of room "103", the silence of the first floor, the small details that we received almost daily, the ladies who attended that floor, the hairdressing service, all outstanding and unbeatable.
The great capital of this establishment is its staff, from the doorman who welcomes you to the lady who vacuums the carpet during breakfast, obviously passing through reception, counseling, security staff, all, absolutely all, are professional, commendable care and education.
As well as the staff serving breakfast in the dining room, next to the hall, are remarkably efficient and prompt.
We can imagine what a pleasure it must be to use, in spring or summer, the terrace that is next to said dining room, looking towards Goya Street, not only for its infrastructure but also for being served, in complete safety, by the waiters and waitresses. so helpful that we have met at this hotel.

Hotel Fenix Gran Melia is an absolute masterpiece. The hotel is a beautiful sight upon entrance. The lobby is bright and the ceilings are decorated with gold trims. The hotel may be old yet very well maintained and conveniently located near multiple metro lines. The staff was marvelous; you were immediately greeted by the staff at the main entrance and the concierge was beyond helpful. The service was top notch and everyone was eager to assist. The breakfast consistented of a nice buffet with fresh fruits and tasty local cuisine. We ordered room service one night and it was also delicious and delivered quickly. The room was cozy and our bathrooms had the best smelling toiletries along with a towel warmer! The hair straightener we brought wasn't compatible with our adapter so the hotel actually provided us with one of their flat irons. There were so many small details embedded throughout our visit and really made our stay memorable. Overall, great visit. I absolutely recommend staying at the Hotel Fenix Gran Melia.
