My 2 sons and I stayed at Hostal Gonzalo from 3/18 to 3/23. We stayed in room 8, which is a triple room and away from the street. This hostal was super clean, the people very nice and the location was superb. The room overlooks a courtyard and it was very quiet all day. The beds were firm and comfortable.... More

We really enjoyed this budget hotel. The hosts were very accommodating and the rooms were spotless and more than adequate for the price. Wi-fi was a bit weak but did the job. You couldn't ask for a better location to see the galleries, major squares, restaurants and train station. All were within easy walking distance of the hotel.

My friend and I stayed in a room with a private bathroom. It was very clean and nice. The man that runs the place doesnt speak much English but he was very lovely. The location is also pretty good. Easy walking distance to everything and only about 10 mins walking to the train station. Lots of nearby restaurants as well.... More

The rooms were larger than I had expected for the price. It was comfortable and warm and ideally situated within easy walking distance of the Prado and other galleries. It was clean and remarkably quiet even in a room overlooking the street. And family were friendly and helpful with adequate English. One minor issue - no plugs in the basin... More

We (My husband and 5 year old son) stayed 5 nights (Dec 9th-14th) at this clean and centrally located hotel. Javier and his staff (I only remember Jorge's name) work hard to keep the place spotless. They are kind and helpful. I love family run, small hotels when traveling. And you cannot go wrong with this family run hotel for... More

The pension is located at the 3rd floor of the XIX century building with the tiny old-fashioned elevator where two people and their luggage could hardly fit into. There are a hall and a several rooms, fashioned in a bit odd, but pleasant mixture of old Spanish, Arabic and even a little English style. Our room was not very large,... More

Staying in Huertas

Neighbourhood Profile
Also known as Barrio de las Letras, Huertas was once home to prominent literary figures, Miguel de Cervantes and Lope de Vega among them. The neighbourhood is committed to celebrating its rich heritage: Calle Huertas itself is inlaid with quotes from celebrated authors, street names pay homage to them, and second-hand bookshops pervade. Huertas receives a fair amount of spillover from the center — side streets around Plaza Santa Ana take on a foreign party atmosphere at night, and you always see young backpackers navigating the streets — but as you descend into the neighbourhood, everything becomes a little more cramped and slightly less refined, and takes on more of an underground feel. Live music is at the heart of Huertas: by night, its subdued bars are ideal for meeting friends, sipping cocktails, and chatting quietly while enjoying jazz or singer-songwriter performances.
