The photos don't really do this hostel justice, when we arrived the room was nicer than expected. A decent size, the bathroom was compact but adequate-all clean. The guy who booked us in was pleasant and spoke some English. Our room faced the courtyard so it was quite. The window was tiny, but as we we're spending much time there...

Okay, so we wanted to stay cheaply in Madrid, and this place is cheap. The bathroom (and one toilet) is shared, which is okay, but it is damn small and there is only one shower for the whole hostel, which is not okay. The rooms with a balcony have nice light, but they are also small and the sheets had...

We payed 10 euros per person per night for a double without private bathroom: even price. It's really just a place for sleep. No reception, no breakfast included. Unfortunately the bathrooms in common weren't all that clean. The position is a bit strategic because is really next to the station and to Sophia Reina museum and 10 minutes from Prado....

Stayed here with friend my first couple nights of a very long trip. Not a very social place but very clean and comfortable. Wifi is good and the people who run the place are very nice. Good location but not great a bit of a walk to get to central Madrid.

Chose it because it was cheap and right next to Atocha station. The location and price were excellent. The room (we stayed at a double room without a private bathroom) was quite small and basic, we hardly fit two suitcases in it. The room opened to Atocha street, and although it could get a bit noisy, the view was great...

Needed a room for the night with a private bathroom. This place was clean, friendly and most importantly quiet. Its location is perfect being only a 5 min walk from Sol. Would use again when i need a room for the night.

We chose this hostal as it was within walking distance to and from the Atocha station. Tip: although it was about 10-15 minutes walk from Atocha, the walk is mainly uphill (not good with luggage), so take the metro to Anton Martin which really was about 50 metres from the main door. The main attractions were all within walking distance....

I didn't expect the amenities of a hotel. The walls are paper-thin and you can hear everything. The room and bath were immaculate. However, I had emailed ahead and asked if there would be someone on staff who could call for a cab if my shuttle failed to arrive for my 4 am departure to Barajas. I was assured that...

Family-run hotel located close to Atocha train station and within a walking distance to the main attractions. We had a twin room that gave to a street, and thus at night it was a bit noisy. Furnitures were rather old but for the price we payed you cannot expect much. Hotel does not serve breakfast but there are many bars...

Staying in Huertas

Neighbourhood Profile
Huertas
Also known as Barrio de las Letras, Huertas was once home to prominent literary figures, Miguel de Cervantes and Lope de Vega among them. The neighbourhood is committed to celebrating its rich heritage: Calle Huertas itself is inlaid with quotes from celebrated authors, street names pay homage to them, and second-hand bookshops pervade. Huertas receives a fair amount of spillover from the center — side streets around Plaza Santa Ana take on a foreign party atmosphere at night, and you always see young backpackers navigating the streets — but as you descend into the neighbourhood, everything becomes a little more cramped and slightly less refined, and takes on more of an underground feel. Live music is at the heart of Huertas: by night, its subdued bars are ideal for meeting friends, sipping cocktails, and chatting quietly while enjoying jazz or singer-songwriter performances.
