Centrally located at the SOL metro stop, this hostal has access to local cafes, restaurants, bakeries (some open 24 hours--what a concept!) plus outdoor cafes with umbrellas around the plaza, serving tapas and sangria. The Hostal Madrid has very modern touch keys, automatic lights and tastefully decorated to reveal some of the original bricks and mortar. It also has iron...

great place and great people. It is centrally located , very nice ( I didn't think an Hostal could be as nice) excellent cleaning and the people are great. I would like that London's hotels could copy at least something in the management of a small hotel. Rooms are well decorated and furnished enough to spend some days in the...

It is a cheap choice to stay in madrid. Very perfect location, close to metro station and center, bur poor facilities. The wifi was terrible. The hotel didnt offer breakfast. Warm water was not available all day. It also didnt have house keeping, and you should do the room yourself.

We got there a couple hours early and they still let us check in. Not to mention, they upgraded us to an apartment (we had reserved a basic one room)! They were helpful when we asked they about transportation options to Barcelona and gave us a map and advice. The location is also excellent, right next to Plaza Mayor and...

We were OK with their other room we stayed 2 week before. But the apartment room we were given which we reserved earlier for the New Year's Eve was extremely cold to our standard. The electric heating system indicated 28 C. degrees but that was more like below 15 C. degrees to me. I am familiar with Celsius temperatures. They...

I have given this hotel/hostal 5 stars on its value for money basis alone. If you are into luxurious accommodation look elsewhere. Flamboyant it is not. No drinks facility in the rooms. Minimal wardrobe space. Basic bathroom facility. No breakfast available. HOWEVER its price, location, cleanliness and friendliness is 5 star. Although Madrid was very busy we had a large internal...

I really like this hostel, prices are good and location could not be better. Everything is new and very clean and the staff is super friendly. The rooms are small but well equipped and in perfect conditions. They offer a service for storing luggage for 1€. I recommend booking in advance, all rooms are usually booked.

If location is everything, then this hotel has it all. It is located right in the center, close to restaurants, tourist attractions. I would even say in walking distance from all of these if you're just a little bit fit. The room was clean, though a little bit small. And sometime the area tends to be a little bit noisy,...

Staying in Centro

Neighbourhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
