Hostal Madrid is excellently located for a city trip to Madrid. It is just 100m from Sol. The staff of Hostal Madrid is very friendly and helpful providing us many valuable hints for our stay in Madrid. The rooms are spacious, have a nice design, and are tidy+clean. The Wifi was working very fast in both our rooms. Both my...

We stayed in Hostal Madrid last weekend for a couple of days and were extremely happy with everything about the property. We had booked a standard double room but they provided us with a free upgrade to a large apartment with attached kitchen. The apartment was very spacious and clean fitted with all modern amenities. The location of this place...

I have just returned from a 2.5 week trip in Spain. I stayed at Hostal Madrid twice; once for three nights and then for two nights. As it was advertised on the website that nightly right for stays of 5 nights or more could be negotiated I got a nightly rate for 35 euros rather than 40 euros so for...

We stayed here in Feb 2013 for 3 nights. We really can't fault it. The rooms are spotless. We had a lovely balcony overlooking the street and the rustic exposed walls are fantastic. It's in a fantastic location. Very close to clothes and food shopping, nice restaurant areas and close to the metro station but it isnt noisy. The staff...

This hostel was fab, I think it's the one I've liked most from any trip I've taken. We arrived after our pretty long journey, to a welcoming and helpful member of staff and a clean and comfortable room. The hostel was a minute or two from Sol Metro station and Plaza del Sol is a lovely vibrant place to be!...

Excellent location - very near Plaza del Sol and metro. Very clean room - we had a room on the first floor that overlooked the street at the front, but we didn't find it noisy. Free wi-fi was a bonus and the staff were friendly and helpfull. Good place to stay for doing a tapas bar tour.

This place was more of a hotel than hostel - I.e no kitchen etc. but really nice and in a central location. Close to metro stop and piazza mayor. Big room with nice bathroom - only downside the shower leaked quite considerably. Good heating, clean

Less than a block up the street from Plaza del Sol, we couldn't have asked for a better location. We got an upgrade to an apartment which was more than we needed but worked fine. A bit disappointed though as the only windows we had were of the center light-well that looked across into other apartments and we had two...

Staying in Centro

Neighbourhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
