Hostal has primarily a perfect location right next to the Plaza Mayor. Our room was very small but sufficient for an overnight stay. The staff was friendly and helpful. We had problems with the original wifi, but the staff allowed us to connect to the reception wifi. I can definitely recommend, mainly because of the cleanliness and location.

The staff were very helpful and seemed to speak a number of languages. The rooms were small, but very clean. Note that air conditioning is an extra charge...something you may want to consider as not only can it be very warm in Madrid, but the hostel is on the 3rd floor (good but small elevator) and because it is very...

Only a 2 star hotel but a great service. The hotel and rooms were very clean. On arrival the man on reception was very friendly and helpful. In a great position. Lots of bars and restaurants around. Would return.

We have stayed in Hostal Tijcal for 2 nights. The room was clean but very small. The hotel is near the city centre, the location is great and the staff has been very helpful and they knew a little English compared with the other people in the city. Book this hotel only for the location, in my opinion is a...

My daughter and I wanted to stay for three-four days in the centre of Madrid and near the famous museums. I found this little hostal and they claimed it was only 50 meters from Plaza Mayor. Well, well I said. To my big surprise it was right!! We had our breakfasts there every morning, even if the hostal served as...

- heating could not be regulated, more than 40°C in the room - very small room - impossible to sit on the toilet because the door blocks the space - refunding of remaining two nights (total three nights planned) was done after long discussion

Third time I have stayed here and chose to do so mainly because it is budget-friendly and has a GREAT location. Imagine staying in the city center for that price - in a comfy, clean and friendly hostal. Was in a triple room with 2 other friends. Paid a little extra for airconditioning. Reception was extra helpful and always felt...

This place is very updated and cleaned daily. Your rooms are also cleaned daily. The water temperature in the showers were a little finicky, but everything worked just fine. The beds were comfortable and they had a TV. The safe and the AC were daily extras though not included in the room. We opened a window and for the most...

My room was tiny, it hardly had enough space to put our luggage in; say, we were four people in a room for two. Other than that, the place was clean, the staff was very friendly the area is very safe, there's lots of restaurants an places to eat at a walking distance and it's located in the Historical Center...

We had a great stay in may of 2013. We only stayed one night but were pleased with what we got for the price. If you are looking for luxury this is not the place for you. If you are looking for a clean hotel to be able to sleep in shower and stay at a great location this is...

Staying in Centro

Neighbourhood Profile
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
