The Catalonia Puerta Del Sol hotel stands out for its charming atmosphere, featuring modern rooms and a welcoming interior patio that draw constant praise from guests. Its prime location is a hit among travelers, who appreciate the easy access to attractions and public transport. Staff members earn rave reviews for their friendly and professional service, enhancing the hotel's reputation for cleanliness and attention to detail.
While the amenities are generally well-received, especially the comprehensive breakfast options, some guests note the absence of a bathroom moisture extractor. Nonetheless, the hotel is popular for its spacious and well-appointed rooms, offering good value to those who stay.

Detailed Reviews
This hotel is probably somewhere between a 4 and a 5, but it was the
friendliness and efficiency of the staff that pushes it into a five. The location is excellent, walking distance to most of Madrid's main sites and museums, and with plenty of eating and cafe options nearby. The double windows kept out the noise from the busy street in front, so we were able to sleep soundly. As I said, the staff are great. The rooms are perfectly comfortable and functional, but they are a bit bland and could have a bit more charm given that part of the hotel is based on an older building. The lobby has a comfortable area to chill out in. There's an excellent breakfast buffet, but sadly it's in the basement and most days we didn't think it was worth the price given that in Spain you tend to eat a decent lumch. There are several good cafes nearby to get a coffee and a roll, and a supermarket across the street if you need some fruit or snacks. All in all, it was a good choice and an excellent location for our long weekend in Madrid. My main complaint would be the price - it was quite expensive when we were there, but that might have been because we were there during some major sporting events. The price had been much lower a few weeks earlier. So look around.

We have enjoyed 3 perfect days stay.
The staff has been super attentive from the first moment we arrived, especially Alessandro, the receptionist who checked us in, who recommended places to visit and eat, was very friendly. The hotel is beautiful and the room was perfectly clean, and the bed was very comfortable. Regarding the value for money, I think it is great, as the location is perfect if you come to know the center of Madrid, as you can walk everywhere.
Breakfast has a lot of variety and is very delicious. We also went to the bar one night and it is very quiet, and the service is unbeatable.
I'm sure I'll repeat in this hotel! I have no doubt which one to choose every time I come to Madrid.

A paradise in the center of Madrid, very clean and very friendly and helpful staff. The hotel offers organic and compostable kits for each room (toothbrush and toothpaste, comb, shoe horn, etc.). They accommodated me with a room with a bathtub, as I requested!

Pros: Beautiful hotel, very quiet and excellently located, you can walk to places of interest in all directions.
The staff is very friendly and willing to attend to all requests.
The room we had was #412, spacious and with a beautiful view of Atocha Street, well soundproofed with double windows (not double glass in one window, but 2 windows that open and close and an air chamber in the middle) and it really makes a difference. This should be implemented in all hotels in the world! The mattresses are excellent and very comfortable.
Cons: The bathroom does not have a moisture extractor.
The breakfast is not up to the standard of the hotel. All products are served in small portions, which means they run out faster than the staff can replenish them. Little fruit for those who need a healthy breakfast.
The late check-out offered by booking through the website is unlikely to be taken advantage of, since it depends on whether they are going to give that room to another guest. They had offered us to stay until 6pm or until 3pm, since we had a return flight at night, but in the end they only let us stay until 1pm. Luckily, they did let us leave our bags free of charge until it was time to leave the hotel.

Located between the Royal Palace and The Prado, making most of the top tourist sites within walking distance. Hotel staff could not have been more accommodating. Our rooms were comfortable and clean, although the frosted glass door to the bathroom allowed too much light into the room at night, disturbing the sleep of my travel buddy.

This was our second trip here, last time was in 2018. Location is very good, about 2/3 the way from Atocha Train Station (15 minute walk) to Plaza Mayor (5 minute walk). 15 minutes to the Prado and Retiro. If you can walk a mile, you can see just about everything. Area is clean. A bit uphill from Atocha, something to keep in mind if you are bringing luggage from the train station, but we managed it fine.
The building is an old one and beautifully restored. The rooms are modern.
We had a Superior Room, which was quite roomy. Bathroom contained separate tub (with a shower nozzle) and shower (with choice between 2 showerheads), as well as a bidet. Fluffy towels, though no washcloths. Hairdryer in bathroom.
Furnishings included a couch and coffee table, good-sized desk, king-sized bed, and a tea caddy. Wood floor. Good closet space. Tea kettle and Krups coffee machine, and small refrigerator. Good breakfast available on Floor -1; bar and good snack food available on floor 0. A/C worked well. Staff was very helpful.
I would stay here again.

Every time I come to Madrid I stay at this hotel because it is very cozy.
The rooms with all kinds of details, the breakfasts are very complete and the staff is very attentive to any need and very friendly... when you enter the hotel you find a very nice interior patio that belongs to the snack bar where you can have a drink or snack.
The staff is charming, both in the bar, reception, floors or restaurant... of course this is the best value that this hotel has and the tranquility, you can't hear anything despite being in the center of Madrid.
It is very well located, near Puerta del Sol, you can go to many places on foot.

This hotel is located in the heart of Madrid. Our triple room was spacious, clean and well located. The hotel itself is in a historic building and is stunning. The staff was wonderful from check in to check out, answering our questions and ensuring our comfort. Parking is available within a 2 minute walk from the hotel in a public garage, easily accessible.

We were a bit nervous about staying here as twin rooms weren't guaranteed. However on arrival, we had exactly the rooms we requested, which were on 4th floor overlooking the courtyard. For a city centre hotel it was exceptionally quiet. Rooms were a bit warm and aircon wasn't too good, but it didn't bother us although it might be a problem in summer.
The hotel location is fabulous, near everything. Most places in central Madrid are within a 10 to 15 minute walk at most, and many much nearer. Rooms are a decent size and have all the amenities you'd expect. Housekeeping was efficient.
The staff were wonderful....everyone at reception greeted us each time we came back. Breakfast choices were excellent and there were different items each day. Breakfast serving staff were especially friendly, remembering what we liked to order each day.
The price of our stay was lower than many other similar hotels nearby. I'd thoroughly recommend this Catalonia hotel.

A hotel to repeat, I booked the Catalonia Goya and due to some problem they placed me in the Puerta del Sol. They were very kind at the reception, they deducted money from my rate and paid for the taxi from one hotel to another. The stay was great, It is a beautiful palace-type hotel in a privileged location in Madrid, a few steps from Puerta del Sol and Plaza Mayor. The room is huge, the only thing is that the window overlooks a very beautiful interior patio but you can't see what the weather has been like since The room. The breakfast was great, nothing was missing. I will definitely repeat when I return to Madrid. I would highlight the kindness of the receptionist at the Puerta de Sol.

Yes. I liked this hotel
Don't bother to eat in the hotel as there are hundreds of restaurants around the area. One word though, Spain is not a country that does much in the way of vegetarian food. At the coast there is fish but not in Madrid.
As Becky says or you could ask the hotel - sure they'd know.
Yes to both questions (staff help to move cases upon arrival)
We upgraded our room and because of that we got bottled water, coffee/tea and bathrobes/slippers.
