Was nice because it had a kitchen took cook in and also had breakfast included but the noise at night keeps you up all night. There ate better hostel nearby with quiet rooms. Plus worms kept coming up from the tub and they said it was from the water even after cleaning they kept coming back.

I was flying Iberia Airlines with my girlfriend back from Ireland to the States. Our flight to Ireland had only a 3 hour layover, but the return trek had 15 hours between flights. Not wanting to stay in the airport, I picked Plaza del Sol from a map of Madrid and decided that's where we'd stay. The Plaza was extremely... More

I spent two nights on a weekend away. The hostel is perfectly located a few meters away from Puerta del Sol. We got an en suite double room with a big window facing the street. All windows are double glazed and with air conditioning so there is no noise coming from the street. We were in the upper floor which... More

We were with two staying in a twin room with shared bathroom for 5 nights. The room size is perfect with everything you need including the bed, wash basin, small cloth hangers, small cabinet, the AC, shower and a nice balcony overlooking the streets. The shower in the room was perfect. The water temperature can be adjusted as one wishes.... More

A small hostel. Ideal for solo or companion travel. Situated in a great location close to many eateries and amenities. On the same block as the hop on hop off routes. A basic breakfast is provided. Note there is no lift so you will have to carry luggage up three or four flights of stairs.

One of the best hostels I've ever been. Better location is impossiblie; it's less than 5 min walking from the 2 main squares of Madri (Puerta del Sol and Plaza Mayor) and from the most central metro station. Good sign in front of the building, careful staff at reception, bedroom in a good size and clean, bathroom clean, great breakfast.... More

I stayed at Barbieri Sol Hostal three weeks. The friendly staff, comfortable living room and beds, kitchen equipments, breakfast and especially balcony was amazing. I did not have even one problem and it is like my second home in Madrid now. Thank you all!

As the title says, the best about Barbieri Sol is its location. It is blocks away from main attractions, lots of squares and metro station, and it is located in an area with cheap restaurants, bars and shops. The rooms were good, pretty spacious and with lockers inside the rooms (no locks included, you have to carry your own). We... More

Although this hostel is in the perfect location for the metro, for shopping, cafes, bars and restaurants etc due to it being so central.. It's also the perfect/worst location for lots of noise, especially if you get a street facing room... which we did. I live in London so I'm used to street noise and didn't think it would be... More

Staying in Centro

Neighbourhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
