We spent 4 nights in this hotel in October 2016. The accommodations were very clean, comfortable and in an ideal location for central Madrid. The staff were most helpful in assisting us in arranging train travel out of the city, and explaining the use of the Metro in the city. We would definitely stay there again. K and J Borg,... More

We enjoyed our room with balcony overlooking Plaza del Carmen. It was an easy 1/2 hour walk to major museums. Javier was an excellent host; helpful in recommending restaurants locals enjoyed, and suggesting where I might purchase a cel phone. And the rest of the staff were friendly as well.

Excellent hostal (pension), on a quiet street 2 minutes walk from Gran Via, double glazed, air conditioned, close to 2 metro stations, helpful staff, good value for money, highly recommended. Many nearby options for eating, and shopping.

I stayed there 10 years ago and liked it then, love it this time as well. The place is centrally located, 5-10 mins to anything in the center, 5 mins to 2 metro stations, help and direction in as close as the front desk, and many recommendations for good eats, and always on the dot. The place is older but... More

Private rooms with large and clean bathrooms. Family owned and very very friendly staff who have some great suggestions for stuff to do and see and places to eat. Great location that feels safe. You might be able to hear some of the other guests but a good pair of earplugs and you'll have no problems. Bed could have been... More

This is my fourth stay in Hostal Acapulco, and it was excellent in every respect. It is centrally located close to Sol Plaza, with easy access to Plaza Mayor, all museums and attractions. This is an exceptional facility for a family visit to Madrid. Close to metro lines, and within walking distance to everything. The facility is spotlessly clean, and... More

Just half a block from the Gran Via and two blocks from Sol Plaza, this is a central & walkable area. I had an inner window room so no street noise. The first night I did hear the TV of the guy next to me til about 12:30 but usually it was very quiet. Book exchange, frig, AC, elevator (rare),... More

Not only the Hostal Acapulco is situated conveniently near where all the action is, but is charming, clean and the service is fantastic. Staying in Centro

Neighbourhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
