Petit Palace Puerta Del Sol is a typical central city hotel. Well located, standard rooms, good breakfast and competitive prices. It was clean and modern, while the staff were helpful when we asked for some local information. We read reviews about street noise, but didn't find that it bothered us when sleeping. Why though, does a hotel install see- through...

Even though the hotel is very well situated, the room is very small, the beds are very hard, and the bathroom/shower extremely uncomfortable. The shower was very small and showering was an ordeal as everything got wet due the poorly constructed shower. At night the noise was sometimes unbearable. The staff was helpful and friendly, but the hotel is far...

We stayed here at the start of our Spain tour and were disappointed by the hotel. We had booked it based on the recommendations on trip advisor and the lonely planet guide. The hotel was in a great location close to all the major tourist activities and the staff at the front desk were excellent. It ended there! The hotel...

I had a room on the 5th floor and the noise from the road was unbelievable, non-stop, 24/24. Reception staff not helpful. Despite having asked from the night before if We could have left our small luggages in reception after check-out (our flight was later in the day) , the following day the guy at reception said "sorry, we run...

We took the Metro from the airport, it is cheap, clean and cool, provided your happy to walk up and down steps it is the best way to travel around the city. The hotel is right next to Burger King (not noisy though!). Booking in was quick and easy. We had a room on the 3rd floor which had a...

This hotel was beautiful we stayed in one of the biggest rooms on the top floor with a stunning view, and it included a laptop for our use. The balcony was spacious and wood was beautiful with a view of the city's night life down below on the street. Only thing I didn't like was that the king size bed...

We were only here one night but were very disappointed with the accommodations. We (my husband and 22 year old daughter) had just stayed at another Hi-Tech Hotel in Seville and enjoyed our stay there. This was not as nice. Our room was very dark and looked nothing like the pictures shown on Trip Advisor. The only window was a...

Staying in Centro

Neighbourhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
