I stayed at this hotel a couple weeks ago, when I had to travel to Madrid on business. This is a rather old property, needing renovation, but I was prepared for that. What I was not prepared was for the lack of hot water in the room. When I called the concierge complaining about it, I was told that It...

We stayed at the hotel because of its location and the Catalonia hotel brand which is a good guarantee for a good, comfortable stay. The location is ideal for those who wish to be in the elegant shopping district of barrio de Salamanca. The rooms are comfortable and built in such way which keeps noise away. The bathrooms are big...

Comfortable hotel in Salamanca District very close to the metro - Velasquez. Very Good shopping zone. The rooms are comfortable and clean, the staff friendly and a very good breakfast. Not a luxurious stay but smart. Standard rooms overlooking the back of the building.

The Catalonia Goya offers goid accomodation close to the center of Madrid. However, the bar is rather disappointing, as numerous bars are within walking distance, this is not too much of a problem for an enjoyable stay.

Rooms are ok, good bathrooms and beds are comfortable. Internet was working just fine and good space of closets. The noise is horrible, you hear when guests arrive at their rooms, and noise from the streets. We have kindly asks for another room since they were doing work outside and they put us in a room, where the noise was...

Clean facility. Friendly and helpful staff. A high value for the location. My only suggestion would be to make the shower safer by installing a hand rail and something to avoid shower spray from falling on the floor outside the tub.

This is a very good base if you are planning to visit Madrid for a spot of shopping, as it offers comfortable, pleasantly furnished, rooms at a good price. The reception is fairly basic and feels rather cramped, but we were met with warmth and check in was handled efficiently. The hotel is perhaps slightly in need of a refurb....

There's no doubt the location is perfect: right in the heart of Madrid's Barrio de Salamanca. The rooms however were slightly run down. The bathroom was not well kept. I did not hear any noises from nearby rooms, which was good. Overall my stay was average/average+ compared to similar hotels in Madrid!

Staying in Barrio de Salamanca

Neighbourhood Profile
Barrio de Salamanca
Broad, tree-lined avenues with pretty streetlights frame the neighbourhood of Barrio Salamanca. With beautiful condominium buildings that make up most blocks in this area, this part of town is refined and quiet. It is also host to a few of the city's large shopping avenues, including Calle Serrano and Calle Jose Ortega y Gasset. A walk down these streets will reveal upscale chains, small boutiques, and plenty of opportunities for shopping or checking out the stylish displays. The locals here are polished and fashionable, the atmosphere is leisurely, and the lush Retiro Park on the southern border is yet another opportunity to enjoy the outdoors. A stroll through Barrio Salamanca is all about admiring the beautiful architecture, window-shopping, and people-watching in this upper-crust corner of Madrid.
