Great location, next to all bars, the Best ice creams in Madrit. The room was ok, clean, with tv (only spanish channels). But it could use some common room, this is what I like the most in hostels. Price for late summer was very good

Stayed in a one bed and it was cozy and bright. Can't beat the location! Staff was super friendly and got us in early. Fresh towels everyday. Place could use a bit of cleaning, but overall was great for what we paid!

Hostal Colors was a good hostal in a good location. It was clean and the water was hot and cold. The price was good and although it was noisy, we travel with ear plugs (ear putty) so it didn't affect us. We liked being in an area where there were lots of cafes, bars, tapas bars, pubs, shops and really...

My mate and i stayed in Hostal Colors Host in Central Madrid for 3 nights in June 2008. The hostal is located smack bang in the middle of the city in a busy street with many good shops including some upmarket labels. The Hostal is also close to the Gay area in Madrid. We stayed in a double room. We...

The hostel is situated in the 4th and 3th of a lively alternativ street near the center. Outside it looks a bit shaby but inside it is all friendly and newly renovated. There are all kind of shops and some bars nearby and it is easy reachable by metro from the airport. (Only one change) The check in area is...

Pretty cool basic hotel with 7 rooms - all different colours but all compact, Ikea furniture, sparkling clean but tiny bathrooms. Super value and in a really fun neighbourhoood called Chueca just round the corner from Gran Via. Fast free internet too. We walked to Puerta del Sol from this hotel. There are lots of cool clothes shops on Calle...

Staying in Chueca

Neighbourhood Profile
Chueca
Chueca is the hip, gay neighbourhood of Madrid where many of the streets are narrow and intimate, but where the hustle and bustle and the eclectic storefronts and people give it a distinctly urban feel. The main thoroughfare is Calle Hortaleza and the main square is Plaza Chueca, completely filled with terraza tables serving copas (mixed drinks) during summer. A mixture of trendy and grungy, some of the adult businesses here are explicitly racy in their signage. From the rainbow flags to the signs above the entrances of its many funky bars, to the date spot restaurants, Chueca is a vibrant and colorful place. It's always interesting to explore the different corners of Chueca by day, and by night, the area becomes a major nightlife destination when the clubs open their doors.

“Take ear plugs. Oh, and we were robbed en route from the airport to the hostal via the metro. A group of hustlers separated us and crowded around my partner causing me to worry about him and become distracted while one of them unzipped my purse and stole my Blackberry, welcome to Spain!”
