This hotel is quity tidy, clean and well-organized. The furniture in the room is comparably new and in good shape. Bathroom is very clean and everything was in order. The matress was not ok for me because it was very soft - this is the ONLY point for a complaint. Sometimes it can get quite loud but you'll have some...

Just spent a few days in the El Pasaje, thought I'd throw in my 2 cents... To level-set, my wife and I are not "high maintenance" travellers. I'm not going to talk about the quality of the towels in the bathrooms or sheets on the bed. Both were just fine. Room was smaller - by American standards - but about...

This hotel is centrally located to everything, you are just minutes from the Puerta del Sol, which is the main square in the area. From there it is possible to walk to Museum Prado and the very beautiful gardens there in the area. But you can also pick up the Hop on Hop off bus which stops right in the...

El Pasaje is a little hard to find if you are new to navigating the streets of Madrid but it is well worth the hunt. It is one street off the beaten path that leads to Puerto de Sol so you don't hear the late night/early morning revelers. We got to the hotel early and the staff allowed us to...

We have just had an appalling experience with this hotel. Booked and paid for online we arrived to find we had been 'bumped out' to another (we suspect lesser quality) hotel around the corner by a receptionist who wasn't in attendance when we arrived despite me phoning to advise our arrival time. She spoke almost no English. We were met...

I went on holiday to Madrid with my brother for 12 nights. We shared a room in El Pasaje. Our room was an excellent size, the room was clean and the air condition worked extremely well. Just a short stroll away from puerta del sol. The staff were extremely helpful and all spoke English. Highly recommend.

Spent NYE on this Hotel and I must say I was pleasantly surprise. Rooms were clean, not big, but good enough for two good friends. Our room was facing the road, and there is a pub/bar in that road, so it can get a bit Noisy. The hotel isn't on the main road, but it is less than a minute...

The location of the El Passaje is excellent, steps away from the Puerta del Sol which is really close to the main attractions of the city (Gran Via, Museo del Prado and etc..). The room was great, modern and convenient. Service was also very nice, always kind and helpful ! The breakfast is a continental breakfast that served in a...

This is a lovely little hotel in the centre of Madrid. The taxi had to drop us off at the end of the street as it was too narrow. It was only a short walk to the hotel. The reception staff were very helpful and offered us a choice of 2 rooms. We took the one that faced the street,...

Staying in Centro

Neighbourhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
