Very decent budget place on Gran Via (one of the main and busy streets in Madrid) with 2 mins walk to Gran Via subway train, 6 mins walk to puerto del sol and surrounded by numerous Tapas bars and small food joints.

Situated on the 4th floor of a classic old building in the busy Gran Via this little hostal is great for getting around town. Gran Via Metro is only a 2 min walk and the hop on hop off bus stops almost opposite. You can find breakfast at many quaint coffee shops nearby. Coffee and coissant for €2 or less...

Located just off the Gran Via main road where shopping high street is located. Closest Metro station is Gran Via, Callao, and Sol. The hotel is close by to lots of restaurants, bars in fact its a great location for any tourists coming to Madrid; Museum del Prado, Plaza Mayor, The oldest restaurant Botin , bureau exchange, grocery stores, cafes,...

The hostel was very close to the subway, and a short walk away from Puerta del Sol. The building is a little bit shady, but its very secure. Theres a door man for the whole building (which holds a number of different hostels) from 2300-800, so you can only enter the building with a pass. The owner of the hostel...

Stayed here for 7 nights in July. Pros: - excellent location, steps from Gran Via metro station and a short walk to Sol. So central!! - the street view was beautiful. Although there is lots of traffic outside, the double windows blocked out most of the sound. Impressive! - good air-conditioning. - staff was very friendly. The lady speaks English...

Location: I can't say enough about its location. Very central and easy to find. Once you get off the metro station, look for McD and it is in the same row with it. Gran via is the place for shopping so if you are into shopping this is the right place. Also very close to metro station and accessible by...

Great location 2 minutes away from Gran Via Metro. I had a single room at the front of the hostal but there was no real road noise and I slept very well. The weather was quite chilly but It was very warm in the room , I had to turn the radiator off. The room was compact and very clean....

It's difficult to find anything particularly thrilling to say about the Hostal Avenida: it's very central, very clean and reasonably priced; the back room we were in was very quiet with a functional, clean little bathroom; the beds were comfortable. The only thing that might be problematic for some is that not all the staff speak good English, but in...

This hostel did not even seem like one. It is in a beautiful building (full of other hostels on other floors) on a main street (gran via), which made it close to the subway and within walking distance of everything we wanted to see. The staff was wonderful. They stored our luggage, gave us wonderful directions, and welcomed us. Unfortunately,...

Staying in Centro

Neighbourhood Profile
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
We are going to give you three important reasons for staying in Hostal Avenida: The first one: We are right in the Gran Vía... If Madrid had a heart, we would be right in the middle. The second reason: Staying in Madrid tends to be expensive. We are one of those few exceptions: we offer you super-affordable rooms from only 40 Euros per night. The third one: Our guesthouse is small and cosy, and we take special care of the cleanliness of the premises and our customer services. There is no question about it, we will make you feel at home. You are not totally convinced yet? Okay. We still have a trick up our sleeve: we have Wi-Fi access to the Internet all over the hotel and it is free! ... more   less
