Lovely room, and so beautifully designed. The hotel staff were very kind making me a cup of hot water to drink. Hotel has a fantastic terrace at the back overlooking old Matera. We wouldn't say this was the best breakfast we had in Italy - perhaps a bit basic with focaccia and croissants and cake, but we ate on the...

Matera has blossomed since my wife and I visited the town three decades ago, and I was startled by how vibrant this provincial capital in the long-bypassed region of Basilicata has become. Hotels and restaurants have sprung up to fill the caves ("sassi"--literally, rocks) from which Italy's Christian Democratic government dragged residents into the modern world 65 years ago. The...

Very nice place to stay in Matera. Was very impressed by the clean and well appointed room. I did not stay in the "cave rooms" as those were fully booked. Instead, I stayed on the highest floor of the hotel. There are free continental breakfast, free wifi for internet access, and free parking just outside the hotel (although this can...

Appearances can be deceptive. An ordinary street, an understated reception but a short walk through to the back of the hotel and the amazing view of Matera can be seen. We stayed in one of the superior 'cave' rooms. Buffet breakfast was very good and if the weather is good can be taken on the terrace. Lots of nice touches....

This sweet hotel, built into rocks, for some rooms, has such charm. Rooms lead out to charming back streets, wishing wells, flowers, and views out to the city's intact caves. The staff was unbelievably helpful, fluent in English, and always ready to supply recommendations for restaurants. The breakfast is average but excellent cappuccini.

We drove to Matera, first time visitors, and found a town that delighted us. We could see the "sassi" from our sweet little hotel and at night the sight left us breathless. This is a worthwhile stop. Il Belvedere is a charming hotel with an equally charming and solicitous staff. The breakfast was ample and delicious. And the location was ideal!...

Great little b&b just outside the ZTL zone in Matera. Comfortable and clean rooms, great shower, and awesome views from the terrace where you can take your breakfast if you want to sit outside. They offer a wide range of items for breakfast, all very fresh and good quality.

This place was awesome, with the best view of Matera The photo was taken on their terrace. Breakfast was great: perfect capuchino, delicious focaccia (the potato focaccia was the best I've ever had) and a variety of local yoghurt and bread. The staff was as friendly as can be

Stayed at Il Belvedere for 3 nights and it was better than we expected. The location on the edge of Sassi and a terrasse with a Sassi-view is perfect. If you travel by car it's possible to drive all the way to the front door. Staff is very nice and helpful, the rooms are extremly clean and spacious, at least...

Thought I had died an gone to heaven. The Belvedere is more like a hotel than a B&B in terms of amenities, but believe there are only 9 rooms. No matter. We were welcomed by the hostess at reception and shown our room and given information and she answered all our questions. Our room was large, bright and very clean....
