We stayed here for a week in August 2021, and had a wonderful experience. The staff were incredibly helpful, and went out of their way to make sure we were comfortable. The view is like no other, it is worth staying in this hotel purely to take advantage of the incredible views! the hotel itself was quiet , tranquil and it was always easy to get sunbeds by the pool (often we were the only ones there). there is also a private beach, which is a godsend because most of the public lidos and beaches on the amalfi coast are very crowded. The rooms are not modern, with dated furniture and fittings but we did not mind this as everything was super clean and the floor tiles are amazing. With a refurbishment, i imagine the prices will skyrocket as the view is seven star. Balcony was large and came with table/chairs/deckchairs and the sea view. The free shuttle service is a must, as the hotel is not located nearby to Amalfi or the beach, however, we needed to book these a day before to ensure we could select the time we wanted. There is a bus service (albeit busy) and taxis, but taxis were expensive, quoting us 40 euros for a one way trip from Amalfi to the hotel. Overall, a great hotel and would most definitely return for another idyllic trip. To make this 5 stars, I would recommend a few carpets are replaced and a lick of paint, as well as a restuarant/bar on the beach. there are two restuarants on the beach that belong to the other two lidos, which are nice, however, it would have been great to be able to order a spritz to our beds on the beach!

We stayed at the Grand Excelsior Hotel, Amalfi 2-9Sep2022. It probably has the best view in the entire Amalfi coast set high up on the cliffs. There is an hourly return shuttle bus to the town centre and beach which was excellent. We eat in the town for the first couple of nights only to find the hotel provided far superior food and drink at the same price. Breakfast and dinner on the terrace was fantastic the views staggering. The staff were all very friendly and just brilliant especially the lady dinner manger. We had an excellent sized clean room with a double bed made up from two singles which was good as we thought we might have to put up with two singles. Sea views and patio were stunning. We did day trips from harbour to Capri, Sorrento and Positano all were great booked locally at ticket offices at harbour.

This hotel has the most breathtaking views, truly the most beautiful location we have ever stayed in, and all rooms have a sea view. It's second to none to wake up too, we had 2 balconies. The staff are friendly and its family run. Brilliant hourly shuttle into Amalfi, gorgeous pool, amazing breakfast. but there is a reason the bell boys walks you straight through the room and onto the balcony.....

Cons - the rooms are very basic, probably the most uncomfortable bed we have ever slept in, rock hard, no mini bar, no fridge, no phone, no water. Our aircon broke and leaked everywhere, the shower was awful and spurted everywhere. Rooms are run down, paints peeling off the walls which is such a shame as the hotel is actually nice. I don't regret going but the rooms really need some attention but the views made you forget how awful the rooms were.

I simply do not understand the negative reviews. We had a FANTASTIC stay at this truly lovely hotel. Amazing views, superb service, and a cool friendly vibe. As for getting into town, um, yes - you have to take a road! And if you know anything about the Amalfi Coast, you'd know they are twisty windy roads. If you want to stay in the noisy center of town, you are free to do that; the nicer hotels in Amalfi are up the beautiful hills.

The shuttle is easy to book - it always came on time - and takes you into town or to their private beach club, which it seems no one here went to. Do you like sitting directly on the ocean in your beach lounge chair under an umbrella while someone brings you drinks and snacks to your little table? Me too.

Eating breakfast on the covered veranda with these grand ocean views is also wonderful. The pool is beautiful; the bar is a place James Bond would drink. It's not precious and perfect in every way, and sure parts would benefit from a refresh. But our room was large and cool and comfortable with a tiled open shower that was terrific. We appreciated our dedicated staff and friendly service, and the vistas and our balcony with a stunning made our trip perfect. Not sure where everyone else was staying, honestly.

I am a travel agent and am writing about my experience when booking before, during and after the clients visit. A reservation was made direct with the hotel. The communication was very difficult on the front end but a reservation was finally made. My clients were extremely unhappy with their room as it was outdated and smelled horribly. The hotel refused to move them to another room even though there were others available. The couple was celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary and as requested, the hotel was not willing to provide them a complimentary glass of wine or beverage upon arrival. Post stay, the hotel has not paid out the commission and has not responded to four emails that were sent inquiring on the status. Although the hotel has wonderful views, the customer service is horrible. I do not recommend booking at this location.

We loved this hotel and location!
I was a little concerned when I read that the hotel was out of the town but thank goodness it was.
Amalfi town is so congested and busy it was nice to get away from the pollution and crowds.
The rooms are small and a little dated but it seemed to fit in with the charm of the hotel.
Our room was cleaned everyday, towels changed, when required, our bed line was changed midweek.
The balcony is fabulous over looking over the bay with sun loungers and a small table and chairs.
On arrival Valeria was there to greet us and show us around all the reception team were very helpful, I can’t understand how people can say they were cold?
Breakfast is very good a large buffet and eggs, bacon, omelettes etc are available to order.
Cynthia took our orders most mornings and was delightful.
The shuttle bus was a godsend! After getting buses from the town to Ravello etc it was great to be able to book our bus and not have to get into a fight to board a bus.
We went into Amalfi town for dinner one night, it is sooo busy we couldn’t wait to get back and relax in the bar. Giuseppe waited on us in the restaurant and bar and was very charming and efficient, the team seemed to have a great relationship.
There are a few restaurants further up the “hill” which you can walk to in 10 minutes or the reception will call them and they will pick you up and bring you back!
Campania is one of them and was very nice we also tried Gerry’s.
I will definitely be returning to the Excelsior and can’t wait.

Old hotel with lots of charm, beautiful tiled floors and nice pool area. Initially we liked our room, it was spacious and furnished nicely with old wooden furniture. The balcony was big, although offering not very much privacy as it was open on the sides.

Breakfast was great, orange juice super delicious. Snack bar and restaurant were nice, nevertheless nothing special really.
Private beach and shuttle service were excellent. And of course the views were amazing and the staff were friendly and helpful.

What we were not happy about was the bed being rock hard, luckily they were able to arrange mattress toppers that helped a little. There was only one free power outlet in the roon, no power outlets near the nightstands, which are quite essential nowadays. We got an extendion cord from the reception, so one of us could recharge their phone during the night, the other one had to be charged in the bathroom.

The biggest problem was that all the rooms (at least on the 4th floor) onwards from room 406 were connecting rooms. The two first nights were ok, then our nextdoor neighbours changed. The rest of our vacation we listened to their loud talking until early mornings. It was as if they were in the same room with us (even when we closed the door between our room and the little hallway in front of our bathroom and the connecting door) the connecting door was a flimsy plywood door with gaps around it, no soundproofing at all. We couldn’t change our room as the hotel was fully booked. I understand there’s not much a hotel can do in situations like this. But there is no mention whatsoever on their website that the rooms are connected. I would not have booked a room in this hotel if I had known about this.

A very beautiful hotel! The hotel has a great pool, amazing private beach club, and fair priced dining. Breakfast was included and had lots of delicious options. The hotel has great balcony views and a complimentary shuttle service to the private beach and into the city center.

However, most of the staff here was very cold and unwelcoming. When checking out, the hotel tried to add additional charges (such as $110€ laundry charge when our laundry was 34€). Be wary and review your check out receipt before paying and keep track of what you buy!!

Overall, I would consider looking into other hotels in Amalfi before immediately booking this one again. My partner and I spent three weeks in Europe traveling to different countries and cities but this hotel had the worst service. This hotel was the most expensive so it was disappointing the service didn’t match the price. The exception to this behavior were Giuseppe (Peppe) and Clara, who were both exceptional!! If everyone was like them I’d give place an instant five stars.

I was blown away by Grand Hotel Excelsior! The views are absolutely unmatched. I booked this last minute THANKFULLY when my Airbnb was canceled and I could not have been happier! Everything from the service to the food was top notch. It is kind of secluded up on the mountain but it makes for peaceful dinners on the patio with the best view on the coast. There is a shuttle that runs from the hotel every hour to the private beach or the town center where you can easily get the ferries. I would stay here over and over again!

The hotel is magically located on top of Amalfi coast.
The check-in experience was very fast, and the staff were very friendly and supportive. It is true that the rooms are a bit old but once you get on your balcony and see the view, you wouldn't want to leave the room.
The hotel offers a shuttle service that take you to the hotels' private beach as well as to Amalfi downtown with frequent timings. I had the chance to use the private beach and it is very clean.
The breakfast is very rich, and the staff are very smiley and supportive. the view at the breakfast is just amazing.

I drove in so many countries all over the world. I have shared an extremely narrow road with groups of professional cyclists in Mallorca, animals in India, etc. But I would not recommend driving in the Amalfi Coast. It's extremely dangerous! It's stressful just watching the driver manuever his way back out of a narrow road as a big bus comes around the corner, with no railings mind you! Please research this thoroughly before you commit to driving there.
