The Imperial Hotel Tramontano ,overlooking the most beautiful part of the Gulf of Naples, nourished the romantic culture of the picturesque, sublime and landscapes of 19th century travellers visiting Sorrento. Along with the classic, refined and elegant style: the oldest wing dates back to the 16th century, and its architecture represents the most viewed image of Sorrento worldwide.

The Imperial Hotel Tramontano is lauded for its immaculate cleanliness, with guests particularly enjoying the spotless pools and well-kept facilities, despite some minor bathroom cleanliness issues. While the service generally receives compliments for being warm and attentive, there have been instances of staff rudeness. Its prime location with ocean views is a highlight for many visitors.
The atmosphere is met with mixed feelings; the charm of some rooms is offset by outdated furnishings. Although the hotel offers several appreciated amenities, including a pool and private beach access, some guests feel the overall value doesn't justify the expense.

Wow, what a lovely hotel. The staff at this hotel were amazing, so friendly and nothing was too much trouble for any of them. We had a sea view room, the view was incredible. The terrace bar in the evening was so relaxing and the staff always had time to have a chat with you, especially Guiseppe and Anastasia. The pool was just lovely, there were so many different little quiet places to sit, the gardens were gorgeous. The pool was kept spotless, the towels were available and anything you wanted we only had to ask the life guard who was great and very helpful (sorry don’t know his name). The location of this hotel cannot be beaten. We would only ever stay at this hotel if we were lucky enough to visit Sorrento again.

We stayed for four nights in late October. After reading some of the reviews I was worried about the shower, the bed and the breakfast. While the shower is small, the water pressure was adequate and the temperature was plenty hot. If they ever re-do bathrooms, from a US citizen perspective, they could get rid of the badet and make the shower bigger. The breakfast was very nice. Always some eggs, bacon, sausage, meats, cheeses, breads and fresh juice. The bed was two twins put together, but it was fine. The concierge helped to arrange drives and tours for Pompeii and amalfi coast prior to arrival. Location and views can’t be beat. It is an older hotel and the rooms are on the smaller side, but it was a perfect launching pad to Sorrento and the rest of amalfi.

Let me start off by saying that this is a beautiful historic hotel in the most convenient location overlooking the ocean. The outdoor gardens, lobby, dining room and balconies are stunning, but that’s where it ends. Me and my husband with our 19-year-old son stayed in a triple room that really needed to be updated. We had three twin beds two of which were pushed together to make a queen and my son‘s bed was nothing more than a cot, which was quite uncomfortable for him since he is not a young child. The furniture all needs updating as well as the bathroom. There is a mini bar in the room but it’s not complementary, they don’t even give you free bottled water but they do give you a complementary box of pasta lol. The phone in our room did not work the entire six days that we were there despite us telling the front desk on three separate occasions that it was not working they told us that they would pass it on to maintenance, but like I said, it was never fixed so we had to walk down to the front desk whenever we had a question or request which was a bit inconvenient. The mirror in the bathroom had rust all around it, and the shower curtain was very dirty along the bottom. It was quite a step in and out of bathtub, not great for older folks or anyone with mobility issues. The staff was not helpful at all in fact quite unfriendly. When we checked in they literally just handed us the key and told us our room number, they gave us no information about any amenities. They only give you one key per room and it is a large heavy keychain that is a little bulky to carry around. The front desk is willing to hold the key for you so that you don’t have to carry it around with you. The lift down to the beach Was not working and the only way we found that out was by finding the lift ourselves and reading the note on the elevator door, the staff never told us and that was quite inconvenient since the lift down to the beach was one of the reasons that we chose that hotel. When we asked how to get down to the beach, we were directed through the gardens down several tunnels, which was less than ideal for anybody with mobility issues since it was a steep incline, dark, and uneven ground. The breakfast was ok for the most part but I think we were spoiled by the hotel we had just stayed at in Rome that had a spectacular breakfast.
Again, I can’t emphasize enough what an ideal location this hotel is in along with the breathtaking views. It looks like they go above and beyond to keep the public areas pristine but lacking in the upkeep of the rooms. For over €700 per night, you really need to take that into consideration before booking. Maybe I was just spoiled because I had just stayed at two incredible hotels in Rome and Florence and the hotel. Tramontano was a bit of a letdown after that.

We have recently returned from 10 days away at the Imperial Hotel Tramontano which was booked Feb 2020 and we re-arranged several times. It was well worth the wait!! Simply a stunning hotel in terms of location with an imposing position on the cliffs of Sorrento, overlooking Gulf of Naples and across to Vesuvius. The hotel is a few minutes walk to main streets and piazza of Sorrento and also close to Grande Marina which is also worth a visit. We had a late flight so missed dinner but had some food waiting in the room. Throughout the stay reception staff very helpful with arranging trips to Capri and Amalfi coast tour. Only one regret is that we did not book a balcony/sea view which would have been worth the extra money but we enjoyed the view for every meal and when enjoying cocktails on the bar terrace each night. We fully recommend Half Board as the 3 course evening meals (each course has 3 choices per night and nothing repeated over 10 days!) are stunning! We pretty much had individual waiter service as the restaurant is generally quiet as it seems most people venture out into the evening mayhem of Sorrento - we suggest enjoying the variety but convenience of hotel dining in evening and maybe have a little lunch in Sorrento when it is much quieter. We had an awesome pizza! We also avoided the beach mayhem by staying round the hotel pool - also very quiet most of the time and no need to worry a out laying towels out at the crack of dawn. Very nicely bar/grill and drinks are brought to you. We would love to go back but to be honest it would be so hard to top the amazing time we had. It is a real authentic classy hotel and simply perfect Sorrento

Our week stay in Sorrento was incredible thanks to this hotel. The location has not only the best views of the area but is central to all parts of Sorrento with nowhere being out of a 15 minute walk. (very handy!) We were slightly concerned upon reading a few bad reviews but the hotel is not run down at all. Decor was older yet timeless and we enjoyed sitting in both the intricate lounges and on the hotel’s balcony bar to soak in its rich history. We thoroughly enjoyed the pool area and gardens which were a perfect escape from the hot and busy bustle of the main town where we spent a good amount of our stay. In addition breakfast was lovely with a wide choice and perfectly cooked eggs and coffee. The staff at both the front desk and breakfast were attentive and kind which really added to the experience. The private lift to the beach clubs was also welcomed to avoid the steep climb back up the cliff! In all I would definitely recommend this hotel as it is in prime location without being as pricy as neighbouring hotels! TIP : Air conditioning works well however only works when balcony doors are closed and it is switched to the sun setting not the ice setting (counter intuitive!)

This hotel exceeded all of our expectations. The staff went out of their way to be helpful and were so pleasant, all the time. They really looked out for us, gave us helpful hints, and helped navigate our stay. The view from the dining room is gorgeous, and can't even be described. We had an amazing dinner there for about 22 Euros each; staff was attentive and very refined. The breakfast buffet is beyond anything you could imagine. I have celiac which I mentioned briefly just once and everyone remembered thereafter, bringing me gluten-free breads, rolls, Caprese cakes, croissants. etc. The bathrooms were very nice with a shower and a tub. Housekeeping and bell service were also very kind and attentive. We have nothing but good things to say about the Hotel Tramontano and would go back in a heartbeat. We left Sorrento sadly as we fell in love with it, and traveled to another region/city but never found that level of kindness elsewhere. Not sure if it was just the hotel staff or the people of Sorrento overall, but we had only positive and very kind interactions. Highy recommend on all levels.

The hotel is traditional, very clean and walking distance from shops and restuarants. Ideal location. Train station is 20 mins walk, harbour 15 minutes, either via a lift through the hotel which operates from 9am-2pm and then 4pm- 6pm.), closed from 2pm to 4Pm, this is free but you can also pay a small fee of 2-3 euros to access the other lift. Best situated for trips to pompeii and Vesuvius. The rooms we had were on the 3rd floor, with a balcony view, it was amazing, we could see mount Vesuvius. Rooms were slightly small but to be honest we were not there all day. The staff were really friendly and helpful. The only reservation I have is that the swimming pool closed at 6pm, slightly early for peak season. However it was nice and clean a bit small and not many sun beds. The pool bar was amazing, service was awesome. The bar was cosy and the outside view was brilliant, we saw amazing fireworks one night which lasted 30 minutes. The bar man was very friendly and provided brilliant service. Staff at breakfast were very nice immediately sat you at a table and the food was plentiful. I cannot fault this hotel it is definitely a 4.5 star hotel.

This hotel doesn’t justify the price point, we had such high hopes staying here and we were utterly disappointed, not only at the quality of the hotel but the service and attitude of the staff.
This hotel is void of any real genuine customer care. it’s super transactional, as a guest you feel like you’re a hinderance to the staff working there. At this price point that shouldn’t be the case at all! In fairness the lady who cleaned our room all week was lovely and our room was spotless every time she cleaned it.
We travelled with our 2 year old son and it’s safe to say this hotel doesn’t really work for a young child. It is Sorrento so wasn’t expecting it to be uber child friendly but I wasn’t expecting a hotel that charged my wife 8 euro for boiling water for my sons milk, which goes to show these guys really don’t get it. They did remove the charge in fairness after I complained that it was pretty ridiculous to charge for boiling hot water!
There are 2 positives about this hotel, the views from the terrace are amazing and the location is great, but there are better hotels albeit at a higher price point than this one, and i’m gutted I didn’t pay more to go elsewhere as I feel robbed for the price I paid.

Let me start by saying this is a beautiful property (exterior) in a magnificent location. That’s where the positive ends. For $835 euro a night in Europe it’s a nice size room. The furniture is old and dilapidated and the room is very poorly appointed. The tub/shower is treacherous with nothing to grab onto and no sprayer. The TV doesn’t work and the WiFi is spotty at best, often non-existent. Housekeeping is poor. We had to ask to have hair cleaned off the back of the bathroom door. We had to ask for a 2nd drinking glass and they provide no water. We received turn down service intermittently. Breakfast is weak by European standards.
There must be a problem with employee morale as we’ve found staff to be uncaring and dismissive. I witnessed the front desk tell a lady in a wheelchair that they couldn’t call to check availability of something, she just needed to go. I also witnessed the Maitre d at breakfast refuse to provide coffee to take away. We are frequent international travelers and this is one of the worst values I’ve experienced in a long time.
