The train station is one square past piazza Taso; the main square. It's close enough to walk. You will walk much more while visiting Pompeii. I chartered a boat for the day and highly recommend it for seeing the coast; though we had 6 people to split the cost. You could get a tour with Iaccarino sorrento limousine service. I think a tour of the coast is pretty reasonable. I only used them for a transfer but they have amazing reviews.
