Nestled in the heart of Sorrento, Grand Hotel Cesare Augusto garners praise for its central location, within easy reach of attractions and transit, though the bustling setting occasionally leads to noise complaints. While the rooftop pool and spacious, clean rooms are highlights, some guests find the amenities and decor to be outdated, likening the atmosphere to a bygone era. Service experiences vary, with staff behavior affecting guest contentment. Additionally, the value proposition draws criticism due to high costs and extra charges.

We stayed for 5 nights to start off a tour of Italy and we were not disappointed. The hotel is in a great spot, a 5 minutes walk around the corner to lots of shops, restaurants, a supermarket and some beautiful piazzas. The train station is also just a short walk around the corner.

Be warned that Sorrento is expensive as is the bar in the hotel, however we stocked up our own drinks from the supermarket and put them in the fridge in the room.

The pool area on the roof is amazing and we had lovely views of Vesuvius from our room and also the roof top. (The only downside was that they did not have the outside shower working which we were hoping to use before leaving on our last day).

Breakfast was lovely, plenty of variety including cereals, pastries, pancakes, coffee/juice and yoghurts etc. The staff were very friendly and nothing was too much for them.

Rooms were cleaned daily to a high standard and the cleaners therefore deserve praise for this.

I would certainly recommend as it is well worth the money.

This hotel is beautifully decorated, I love how it fits in so well with the oldness of Sorento.
our balcony overlooked the beautiful gardens.
Beds were comfy
Room and bathroom was pristine
breakfast was lovely, full of pastries, breads, fruit, cereals, ham, cheeses and then scrambled eggs, boiled eggs and sausages as part of the warm breakfast.
The staff were lovely
My husband and 8 year old daughter loved the roof top pool.
The roof top area was stunning as you had a panoramic view of beutiful Sorento and the surrounding areas.
This hotel was in a perfect location to the centre or Sorento.

My only grievances would be that there is no Tea/Coffee making facilities in the room and the Iron and Iron board is located in a communal area next to the bar toilets.

We stayed in this Hotel last week on our Rviera Holiday package on a DBB basis
The hotel was spotless, rooms excellent, the staff were also excellent
Our Tour Manager went to extraordinary lengths to ensure here guests had the best possible experience from this holiday.
Our evening meals were abysmal. We did not get the same menu as other guests in the hotel. The portions were smaller than one would give a small child and tasteless. We gave up after 3. nights and went out to other restaurants.
Our tour manager who committed herself to a almost 12 hour day in her care of her guests was horrified to find only 5 of our party in the restaurant.
Because of her dedication to our holiday we had been reluctant to complain to her..
A wonderful holiday marred by Austerity measures

We first visited this hotel in 2019 and had a great experience here. Wonderful spacious clean rooms, a decent breakfast buffet and three choices of perfectly good starters and mains every evening plus a dessert selection. We rebooked on this basis and looked forward to returning. This time around, we were here for the first week of the new season and the location and rooms were good as ever, but the food in the evening was abysmal, bland, tasteless and served in small portions. (See photos). We asked a member of the waiting team what was going on and we were rudely told ‘It’s because Jet2 aren’t paying enough’! Our amazing Jet2 reps Alessandra and Lucia tried to resolve this issue amicably with the hotel, but the new hotel management refused to offer a choice at dinner (other guests were enjoying this!) or honour the original Jet2 agreement of half board with a choice at dinner. In the end we ate dinner out for our last 3 nights at some wonderful local restaurants and Jet2 refunded our food bill in full a few weeks after our return to the UK. This also happened with another family staying the same time as we did. I’ve since heard all Jet2 customers have been offered alternative hotels and I’m glad! This hotel doesn’t deserve Jet2 custom and their attitude to Jet2 customers was disgraceful. The other review from May blames Jet2 for the issues, but this was all entirely the fault of the hotel. We are very grateful to our reps for their support that enabled us to get out of the deadly quiet atmosphere-free ‘restaurant’ and out to support well-run local businesses that know how to cook and serve edible food!

Stayed in 4 hotels on this holiday. A week in each & this was by far the worst. Location was the only good think. The whole hotel needs a refurbishment. Can’t remember the last time we used an actual room key with the heaviest keyring that you had to hand in if you didn’t want to lug around extra weight. Floor tiles cracked. Bathroom definitely needs a revamp. One morning we put the “Do not disturb” sign out while we went down to breakfast. The cleaner saw us leave & on returning to our room, the sign was inside the room & bed made. The pool on the roof top closed early for cleaning which in summer seems ridiculous. Not sure what cleaning. It had a dirty bath ring around it one day. So much could be done with the rooftop. No atmosphere. It was a dead space. Most nights we went across to the Plaza hotel rooftop. We would have moved to the Plaza if they had available rooms. Breakfast didn’t look or taste appealing or fresh. I asked for some avocado & got a ‘NO’ from staff member and then he carried on talking to his co-worker. Coffee & tea was shocking. Tinned fruit instead of fresh fruit. We decided it was better to go out for breakfast. We didn’t find the staff very friendly on a whole. Only the guy at the bar had a smile. Talking to other guests at the hotel, they weren’t happy either. Unless there was a major refurbishment, I definitely wouldn’t stay there.

We stayed at the ‘Grand’ Cesare Augusto while in for Sorrento for the weekend.

Pro’s: good central location just a couple of minutes away from main Square.

Cons:
1. Underwhelming lobby entrance and check-in process. Have stayed in many hotels over the world, both budget and 5 star and this was nowhere near 4 star.

2. The corridor to the room was furnished like a 1970’s Russian hospital. Room was clean but sparse and dated. No tea/coffee facilities in room which is poor given the extremely strict policy on bringing any drinks, including water in the room. Very poor mini bar.

Safe was locked when we arrived and had to be reset ( no security - just a staff member with a key)

Door to room is attached to a key chain that could double as as a barbell.

Room is on a busy street so background noise is expected. What is not expected is to be able to join the conversation of the room next door through the air vent. Also the room has traditional tiles throughout so any moving of a chair by another room echo’s through. A nice touch at 1.30am in the morning.

3. Breakfast was so poor that we only attempted one day. It is extremely hard to get food and coffee wrong in Italy but this hotel achieved it. Coffee/juice from machines and a buffet selection that was empty or of really cheap quality. It really felt like a lazy attempt at providing breakfast.

4. On checkout the hotel attempted to charge us twice and we had to show credit card proof we had already paid!

We are not ones to complain but felt compelled to write a review. With many hotels to choose from, strongly suggest there are better alternatives. If it was your first time in Sorrento it could easily take the shine of what is a beautiful location.

Check in was great. Very friendly girl checked us in. The room was no problem, basic but fine. Having paid €245 for the night and considering they call the location a “hotel” the evening was a little different. They have a mini bar in the room with water, soft drinks and beer. There were no glasses to drink from in the room and no bottle opener. We asked for ICE and glasses at the bar on the 6th floor and the girl at the bar gave us a small glass with a few cubes of ice in it (no ice bucket which you would expect). I asked for a second glass considering there was so little and there was two of us only to be told there would be a €5 charge (unheard of in any hotel, maybe it’s Italian style). I expressed my surprise and asked to speak to someone else. One of the male bar staff approached me and took delight in a very aggressive and abusive manner telling me I would have to pay when I questioned the policy. I reacted to his aggression in not an unexpected manner swearing at him which I immediately apologised for, but explaining that he was the one that created the situation. He took the glass of ice I had been given and threw it away He proceeded to shout across at the manager in an abusive and aggressive way to me despite my apology (I should not have even been apologising). I walked away and the manager took no notice waving to me as I left (probably used to the rude waiter). The following and last night there we asked the concierge for ice and we were also declined and told there was a charge.

Tip for the hotel management is to get the basics right which in short is tending to the customer needs. Ice is a given and for free in any hotel in the world of any reasonable standard which your is supposed to be. Staff should never get aggressive in any situation, no matter what the circumstances. An unhappy customer sad to say for something so ridiculously unnecessary. Whoever decided on the charge for ICE could do with a refresher course on hospitality. If you want flexibility find another hotel is my advice.

Wasn't sure what to expect due to the mixed reviews so booked based on its location. Needn't have worried! It's been a grand hotel in it's day but not what I would now class as a four star, however we had no complaints. Immaculately clean, staff all made a point of saying hello, breakfast varied and plentiful - fresh fruit, pastries, cold meats, cheese, tomatoes, toast, bacon, sausages and (powdered) scrambled eggs. Dinner adequate but not exciting. Atmosphere in dining room in the evening could be improved immensely by dimming the lights and sticking on some background music. The ONLY complaint we had was the total lack of sound proofing in the bedrooms. You can clearly hear every word of neighbouring room conversation, when they sneeze, and when they go to the bathroom. Apart from that we had a great time. Location is perfect - two minutes walk to main square. Would stay again if we go back to Sorrento.

The hotel is outdated, but clean. The rooftop is great with a nice view.
Our room was on the fifth floor, and it looked like the bathroom was updated, it had a rain shower. And no heavy key, but just a card to enter the room.
As other people said, the wall are thin. No problem as it is an older building. Take earplugs and you also won’t hear the street noise. As the room was just under the location of the bar, it meant that we heard mice walking above us! And also a lot of ants in the room. The reception is aware, but apparently they can’t control this.
Breakfast is great, the waiters are adorable. But don’t use the coffee machine, ask for proper Italian coffee and you will receive a good cappuccino.

This hotel was close to town and we were able to walk to downtown Sorrento in 5 minutes or less. We had breakfast in the dining room every morning. The food was the typical European style breakfast - eggs, one type of hot meat, yogurt, toast, cold meats and cheeses, coffee and juice. The rooms were clean and large with a comfortable king size bed and a balcony overlooking a garden. I would stay here again.

We used room service in the evenings. So the kitchen was open but I don’t know if one can eat in the restaurant . Tons of great places close by.

The train is very very cheap and quite straight forward to us, it doe have a few stops to make along the way especially after you pass Pompei but when you arrive in Sorrento you simple walk round the back of the station and up a small flight of steps to the main road and you are literally 2 or 3 hundred yards from the front door of the Hotel, take a look at Google map have a great holiday
