The Grand Hotel De La Ville Sorrento is celebrated for its superb location, nestled close to the heart of Sorrento, providing tranquil yet convenient access to the town's attractions. Many guests commend the friendly and attentive service, enhancing their stay, though a handful have encountered lapses in service quality. While the hotel is generally considered a good value, with cost-effective dining options, some visitors mention the mini-bar prices as a drawback.
The rooms are widely admired for their cleanliness, space, and elegant decor, boasting breathtaking sea views, even if noise has been an issue for a few. The elegant atmosphere, characterized by beautiful Italian decor and a welcoming ambiance, along with praised amenities like the pristine pool and diverse breakfast offerings, further contribute to the hotel's appeal. However, occasional lapses in cleaning services have been reported.

Detailed Reviews
Stayed here last week during COVID times and felt safe and clean overall. Staff was super friendly and I liked how it was more “old school” and traditional—at breakfast the waiters all wear jackets and rush around taking care of everyone. This was the best breakfast we had on our italy trip throughout our staff. The food offerings were varied and they bring you everything rather than buffet style.
Our room was 519 and a bit out of the way (had to take elevator and then some staircases to reach it) and the AC in the room wasn’t working that great (it was working but definitely didn’t get to the temperature we would have liked). Otherwise we enjoyed our stay and there are two pools. One on rooftop and one on ground floor. The rooftop is super sunny and perfect views of the sea and Sorrento. The ground floor pool is much more shaded and not as busy as the roof. Pool Towels were fluffy and plentiful and free to use which was nice as we stayed at another hotel earlier in the week that charged for pool towels.
In terms of location it is closer to the ferry to Capri than staying on the other side of town (cab ride was about 15 euros, metered taxi). It’s very walkable to the main area of town but also close to more “local” places than the touristy places on the other end of town.
I would definitely recommend staying here if you’re looking for a more classic hotel environment and would like access to a pool during your stay. Ground floor Pool was pretty deep and good for swimmers. Great sunset views from the rooftop.

I stayed here last year and feel I ought to leave a review. The hotel has a very light colour scheme in reception which feels very posh, all staff throughout the stay were extremely attentive and always made an effort to say Good Morning / Evening or have conversation, you felt extremely welcome. Check-in was easy and lots of information was provided, the room was spacious and exceptionally clean thanks to the cleaners who always smiled and said hello as we walked past. The main highlight of the hotel was the rooftop pool, the bar staff there were extremely polite and an asset to the hotel making great drinks, sorting towels/beds and keeping the area clean. We had breakfast included in the rate and again the staff serving breakfast were accommodating and were extremely efficient, it is buffet and during to covid you order from the menu but they have managed to make it work extremely well and we looked forward to our breakfast every day! We would like to thank all the staff as we saw how hard you all work, not only individually but as a team to make everyones stay perfect!

The hotel is beautiful with such gorgeous marble and furniture through out. We upgraded to a room with a sea view. definitely worth doing. Huge big bed and great marble bathroom. So elegant but the hotel is not at all pretentious . The staff were friendly and down to earth with great service . Breakfast in the garden room was a pleasure with such a huge amount and variety of food that came within 2 seconds of ordering. The roof top bar and sun area with pool is such a great facility. Luigi could not have been a more attentive waiter and the Sorrento espresso cocktails were wonderful. could just do with keeping this roof top terrace open a bit longer until sunset ! Would highly recommend the hotel. It is in a quiet location but only 5 mins from the train and bus station and at most 10 mins walk from the middle of Sorrento.

We had such an amazing time at the Grand Hotel De La Ville. It’s a beautiful hotel in a perfect location. We stayed in room 308 which had a fabulous view over the bay of Naples. Rooms are spacious, clean, well appointed and the air con was amazing in the searing 35+ degree heat. The bed was one of the comfiest Hotel beds I have ever slept in with good quality linens and lovely soft pillows.
The two big pluses for this hotel though are the rooftop pool and bar and the restaurant staff. The former is absolutely perfect for whiling away a sunny day on a comfy lounger, occasional dip in the pool to cool off and drinks on tap from the friendly bar staff.
The hotel restaurant is very efficient with breakfast a vast array of goodies to suit any palate and a lovely garden setting to enjoy it. We ate a couple of lunches and dinners at the restaurant as well and the food was always good and reasonably priced. The restaurant staff, particularly the manager Sam, were friendly and service was very very good.
Sorrento is quite a pricey place to stay, particularly front line hotels with bathing platforms close to the centre of town. The De La Ville was a fabulous option, only minutes from Piazza Tasso and with that rooftop pool and bar open till midnight I would go back in a heartbeat and have been recommending it to all my friends.

A really nice hotel in a good location. The staff were great and the hotel is beautifully decorated throughout. We unfortunately only stayed one night but I wish we’d been able to stay for longer. We had drinks in the bar and dinner outside in the courtyard, which I can recommend. The hotel has a really comprehensive menu and one of the biggest cocktail menus I have seen. Strict covid protocol was also followed with all staff wearing masks, everything in our room was in sanitised bags when we arrived, and the toiletries all new. Would love to stay here again.

We returned for a special anniversary holiday. The hotel had changed but not lost its personality. However the staff were not all pleasant
Receptionist lady was very welcoming unlike her three Male colleagues who were very automated. The girl at the bar needs understand a basic rule you do not point and wag your finger at a guest who was only trying to order more water for a tea pot when you were misunderstanding them. Your attitude was sadly very rude. The breakfast waiters were quick and pleasant
Breakfast was plentiful and replenished quickly.Could a suggestion for the breakfast room be a new toaster that toasted the lovely thick slices of bread and some brown sliced please
The room 410 was a lovely reminder of the views enjoyed years earlier which were fabulous
The cleaners were good and the hotel felt clean and safe. Most of the staff wore face masks but some were them under the chin.
The pool on top floor was lovely but perhaps children should be encouraged to use the downstairs pool where they could make more noise and distract adults less the downstairs pool used to have less trees and vegetation which I think was better. The step ladders were wobbly into the water.
Better signage would be helpful as it seemed the bar had numerous names
Pack mozzie spray to help deter mozzie and flea bites whilst eating out in town.

Beautiful hotel in quiet but central location.
We enjoyed our week stay here. Air con worked very well and much needed as very hot when we visited in August. Good size room and shower had plenty of hot water and power. Lots of plugs in room for charging phones and using other electrical goods. Staff couldn’t do enough for you - very polite and smartly dressed.
Breakfast in the garden each morning was really lovely and the selection plentiful. Could have eggs cooked to order including omelettes as well as choice of other hot food - bacon and sausages. Lots of choice of meats, bread, rolls, fruit and pastries as well as different juices and cereals, having a panna cotta (served in small glasses) for breakfast was a something I admit I indulged in a few times as was so delicious. Tea/coffee is served to your table by the waiter who seats you and they were really attentive at breakfast including the lovely waiter who helped me carry some glasses of juice one morning. Didn’t catch his name but he was a very smiley and friendly older gentleman.
We used the ground floor pool most days to have a chill day or cool off after a day sightseeing. Towels provided so was nice we didn’t have to use our own. Toilets by pool cleaned regularly but found some of the pool floor was a bit gritty and could be perhaps filtered better but the water was still clean and clear. We didn’t use the rooftop pool but did use the bar up there at night for a cocktail or two before bed. Prices were reasonable for drinks and the cocktails were tasty. It was never overly busy up there so was a lovely place to go after a meal out and look at the nighttime sea views.
Only improvement that could be made is the extra bed in our family room was quite uncomfortable so would have appreciated a better type of bed frame or mattress. The 2 main twin beds were very comfy.
Would definitely return to this hotel again. Thanks to the staff for making our stay in Sorrento a very happy and memorable one.

The hotel as pristine, the cleanest I have ever seen, the service is also fantastic particularly in the restaurant. Breakfast was a buffet and they make fresh omelettes, the scrambled egg are ready made and I found them over cooked and only warm and the poached eggs were sitting ready cooked so mine were either rock hard or undercooked which is typical of most hotels unfortunately. They would fry eggs freshly though. There is also a range of cooked dishes, juices, Prosecco, pastries bread fruit etc so very good on the whole and we enjoyed, they bring you any teas of coffees you would like cappuccino etc. there is also a garden restaurant which is wonderful to sit in if the weather is good. Dinner had lots of choices, all table service, I think we would be bed and breakfast if we went again as there are so many restaurants in Sorrento to try. The room was beautiful but we would have liked facilities to make hot drinks, we asked for a kettle on the last night as we were being picked up very early, they said no rooms had them but when we said another couple had one they got us one which was great as we like early coffee and apparently it is impossible to get coffee before the restaurant opens at 7. We took our own coffee bags. The room was very lovely, although it backed onto the lift and we could hear it constantly (501) I wished we had booked a sea view as our faces lots of apartments with their washing out but we did have the sun when it was sunny. I think the sea views are in the shade a lot of the time? There are two pools both of which were ice cold and weren’t used at all because they were too cold to get in, maybe because it was September? A lovely roof terrace with amazing views of the bay and Vesuvius which was a perfect place for a sundowner to see the sunset. Location was about 5 mins walk from the main square so very good. On the whole a very lovely hotel in a great location with brilliant service. I would recommend it for bed and breakfast as you can always pay extra for dinner. The bus stop is 3 mins walk away too.

Really lovely hotel from start to finish. The decoration in all the public rooms including our prestige room was beautiful. We also had a spacious balcony overlooking the bay of Naples too. In a good location about 10 minute to the centre where you will find a wonderful selection of bars and restaurants. Also about a 5-7 minute walk to the train station and the bus direct to the airport. Breakfast is not buffet style but order at your table. It was a little hit and miss to start with but think that was our lack of understanding the routine. But the choice was very choice and the quality was excellent.
The hotel has two pools. The largest is towards to the rear of the hotel on the ground floor but we never used this one. The second, which we preferred, was on the top floor with plenty of sun beds, a small plunge pool and a wonderful terrace overlooking the bay (simply stunning !).
There is a small local museum next door which at 8 euros per person was a little steep but quite interesting. and makes a change from the blazing heat. Everything was in English too.

Stayed for 5 nights at this Hotel, we did not have a sea view but as we spent most of our time out and about or at the roof top bar/ swimming pool with a spectacular view we did not find this a problem. Our balcony (room 326) overlooked a small garden and onto the road at the rear and other building. No problem for us, we knew exactly what we were getting.
The Hotel is absolutely lovely, a very impressive foyer/entrance area, everything was spotlessly clean and this continued to our hotel room. Huge double and very comfortable bed, large room and a shower with a bath. There was some noise from outside in the mornings and as the balcony windows are not double glazed then this did carry to our room, but again it was not a problem as it was only occasional and apart from that it was very quiet.
We had half board, the breakfast was excellent, they seat you and bring you tea of coffee and you can order eggs at this point. Then there is a buffet style offering, although not “self-service” the staff supply the food that you request. There is a lot to choose from, hot food such as sausage, bacon etc (although we did not have this), cereals, fruit, croissants, toast, rolls, cheese, meats, cakes and pastries, as I say plenty to choose from!
The dinner was a three course affair, lots of pasta starters, pizza of course and then usually a choice of a fish dish or two, chicken or beef. A local bottle of wine will cost approx 20euros and if you don’t finish it they will keep it for you to serve to you the next evening.
The restaurant waiters are the same for breakfast and dinner and are excellent, we were always made to feel very welcome and the service was impeccable. Having said this about the restaurant staff I would also extend this to all the other members of staff that we encountered from the front desk to the bar staff.
Speaking of the bar, you can get a small beer for 5 euros, a glass of Prosecco for 5 and a half euros and they have a cock-tail of the day at a reduced price although they are only about 10 euros anyway.
On a practical note, the Hotel is about a 7 minute walk from the main square standing above the small port small and the same for the train station which we used to visit Pompeii and Herculanium.
I would agree with other reviewers that the trips available through the Hotel are rather expensive but there are plenty of other choices available to you.
I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel, the location, the facilities and the staff are excellent.

We went at the end of October 2023 and the pool on the roof was definitely open. I don’t know about the other one. The bar on the roof was also open.
In Sorrento itself, everything seemed to be fully open as far as we could see, certainly there was plenty of choice in terms of places to eat and drink!
Hi it’s a short walk into the town centre, basically on the flat. But there is a little bit of a hill up to the train station, if you need to know that.
I am not sure why restaurants in Sorrento would be closed. Food in Italy anywhere is top priority.
Really can’t provide the exact number as we booked the hotel through Costco and the numbers are fuzzy. But IIRC it was around $100/night - worth every penny. Many rooms face the back of the hotel, providing a great view of apartment buildings and laundry. Upgrade.
I don’t recall seeing one but did not actually look for one, I’m sorry that’s not very helpful.
