We got the ferry over to Capri from Sorrento which was only 50 minutes. A taxi from the marina port up to the main centre was roughly around €20. You are dropped off at the local taxi rank and hotel syrene is a short 5 minute walk from there with your luggage. The hotel staff are very helpful and cannot do enough for you. The breakfast is included in your stay which is delicious and varied. Location is perfect, surrounded by shops, bars and restaurants and the views are fantastic. The rooms are of great size and always clean and tidy. The hotel staff sorted out a transfer from Naples port to Naples airport which was really kind. We would highly recommend this lovely hotel.

Best location in Capri, in the center with everything at our finger-tips, and a true oasis of calm and beauty, set back in quiet beautiful lemon tree covered courtyard right of the busy shops of Via Camerelle. We visited with our 3 children and were given 2 separate rooms, both spacious and with great views. The service was seriously good, classic family run where there was attention to every detail, believe the hotel has been in the same family for generations and it truly shows. Good breakfast with stunning view over the sea and capri gardens in front. Great big pool with sunchairs all around, And environmental focus with large reusable soap/shampoo bottles, a big positive tick for us. We can't rate this hotel highly enough on all fronts, a fabulous base for exploring all the fun of Capri!

Had a lovely few days at this hotel in July to celebrate our anniversary.
The hotel is beautiful, really clean, great location and really quiet despite being on a busy shopping street.
All the staff were amazing but especially the guys who looked after us at breakfast and lunch, always smiling and so friendly and professional despite the heat.
Really hope to come back to Capri and wouldn't stay anywhere else.
Thank you for a beautiful room and a brilliant stay!

Definitely not the quality expected for a 4 star hotel.

Good points - The location was fine as it is a few minutes walk from the funicular station and the staff were friendly.

Bad points - the room was unclean and extremely uncomfortable to sleep in. They claim to offer “air conditioned rooms” but are not transparent about the fact that air conditioning is only available during “summer” or what they consider summer. It was hot and stuffy in the room and the hotel were not able to provide a fan or help in any way. We spotted ants on the floor in the room and bathroom and were just waiting to leave as soon as it was day.

I expected better for a “4 star hotel” especially when the prices charged are ridiculously high.

AC is not working properly.

Terrace door is defective and not opening or closing smoothly.

Toilet Amenity is a very big disappointment, its very old in design as if we are living in the 90's.

Pictures of the facility is very misleading and i wish i never took this hotel or came close.

Furniture is very old and excessively used.

I am not sure how i would spend my 4 days in this hotel as i feel the start is already crap.

Lousy hotel , especially when you consider what you pay for this hotel .

We booked it , because it looked nice , price per room around the 250 , so you expect some service . Well , service is a word they still have to find out what it means .

When you arrive at the marina , there is a man with a hat and uniform who should s the name of the hotel . Without any other communication he points out that you have to put your big luggage / suitcase on a car . That was all what he said .

Than you have to find out what you are suppose to do .

Take the funicular and go up the hill . We had to find it out ourself .

We arrived at the hotel . Staff is mwaahhhh. Not what you expect from a 4 star hotel . I had better approach and communication in a 1 star hotel when I was young and backpacking .

When we checked out , they charged us for the two suitcase from the arrival, 2 times 17 euro .

We complained about it , and the staff didn’t show any understanding , was rude and not a 4 star hotel worthy . They were vulgar and stubborn

Don’t go to this hotel

Came to Capri for my 30th birthday and wanted to stay in a great location that was walking distance to basically everything. The pool was nice but under staffed. Breakfast was great but make sure you’re there early as it is buffet style. Only complaint I have is that for the bathtub in my suite which needed some repairs.

I loved Hotel Syrene!!! All of the people there really wanted me to have a great experience in Capri. Concierge booked us an awesome dinner reservation at a sunset restaurant. He helped us find hikes in the area that were wonderful and memorable. All staff was friendly, helpful, and accommodating. Hotel itself was clean and pretty, great vibes, loved sitting under the lemon trees by the pool. Also loved swimming in that pool! There were even pool showers and locker room for us to use a few hours after we checked out— so so nice. Breakfast was good. Not sure about the restaurant. Would totally recommend!!!

Last summer we chose to go to Italy for holiday.
We spent a week in Capri,a very famous island, with very nice beaches.
We didn’t reserve in advance, so we booked the only hotel available in that period, the Hotel Syrene.
My wife sent an e-mail with her credit card details as confirmation.
We arrived on the 25th of July. It was a very crowded Sunday. Someone from
the hotel was waiting for us at the port. He carried our baggage as far
as the hotel, but took 8,00 € per piece.
When we arrived at the hotel, we were assigned a very small room with a
stinking bathroom, even though we paid a lot of money.
During the night we found out the true reason for which the hotel was nearly vacant: it was situated over a disco called Musmè , the biggest in Capri.
We stayed awake the whole night, falling asleep only at 5.00 o’ clock in the mornign, just when the club closed. The next day we decided to move to another hotel;we paid the bill, including the 24,00 € for the baggage and we didn’t even have breakfast because, except to coffee and croissants, everything
was extra. Eggs cost even 7,50 € per person!
We moved to the Grand Hotel Quisisana, a five stars hotel. It was very nice, with a highly qualified staff, always kind and ready to help; the rooms a lot bigger and not smelly, and the buffet breakfast satisfactory. But what was stranger was that we paid only 80,00 € more than the Syrene!

What is the dress code for restaurant at breakfast and evening
Answer from McMLoca
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania35 contributions17 helpful votes
The restaurant in the Hotel Syrene is only opened for breakfast and lunch. The dress is casual from what I saw. It's "attached" to the pool so people definitely eat lunch with beach cover ups on. People do dress in Capri. I wouldn't wear shorts out to dinner. Some places are very dressy, others khakis and a dress shirt would be fine for gentlemen. The beauty and sophistication of the island makes you want to look your best!
