Seemingly carved into a mountain side, a 16th century monastery once home to the monks of Barbanti (due to their flowing beards) is now home to a timeless retreat. Hotel San Francesco offers serene views over the Bay of Naples, Mount Vesuvius ana Capri Island and easy access to the colourful Naples street life.

Great hotel that’s steeped in history. An old convent sat at the top of the Naples. Amazing rooftop bar and pool. Beds were comfortable and rooms were super clean. A little far up the hill for people who can’t walk distances or handle steps. We loved it because we wanted to walk off all the delicious food we had! Taxis were super easy to find and close to port if you are moving onto Positano, Capri, etc.

I really enjoyed my stay at the hotel, I loved the history of the place all the artwork and the caves inside so much too look at - it had a traditional Italian feel all the way through Rooms cleaned daily Comfy bed really nice and soft The pool area was lovely small but enough room for all guests never had a issue getting beds - Pool staff were all friendly and attentive only thing they lacked I felt was enough QR codes too enable you too see the selection of drinks it took half a hour for someone to locate one so we could look at the cocktail menu The Rooftop restaurant food was amazing we really enjoyed our meals there the waiting staff and the manger of the restaurant was so attentive and nice Once we found our way it was a quite short walk in to Naples piazza area

Hotel location was great and the staff was pleasant. But the junior suite was not what we had seen on their site. It was a musty room with creaky old furniture. Very disappointing. There was no provision for tea, coffee in the room. We were staying 5 nights so had to request a kettle. No mugs were given. Everyday we had to request for sugar and milk. Housekeeping was pathetic. There was dust and the musty smell ruined our stay. The rooftop restaurant was the saving grace. Good food and service.

This hotel is almost tucked away from the busyness of Naples. It’s perched high up overlooking the city and for that it gets my vote. The rooms are serviceable, pleasant and reasonably sized. A room with a terrace is a definite advantage. Breakfast is a pleasant affair - it wouldn’t win huge awards but you definitely won’t go hungry. The in house restaurant is very capable and does some very fine dishes. I’d recommend eating there. There are some very quirky architectural features of this hotel which are clearly the result of it being partly dug into a hill and an ex-monastery. These add a whole bunch of charm. The only slight word of warning would be not to get caught out at the bottom of the hill after 10pm. The funicular stops running at that point (the hotel is midway

Situated in an old convent, this hotel is breathing history, it is lovely even just to walk up and down its corridors and through its common areas. Located uphill, guests have Napoli and the Vesuvio at their feet and can enjoy a lovely, champagne breakfast with the best views of the city and the mountain. Renovations are limited due to the historic nature of the building but this takes nothing away from the value of the experience. Hope to return in the summer months to enjoy he pool and a lovely meal on the rooftop.

We stayed in this hotel for one night after returning from the Amalfi coast for our honeymoon. We had hoped to cap our 2-week trip and the lovely hotels we'd stayed in across Italy with an equally lovely property. Unfortunately, the hotel left much to be desired. We booked a terrace view suite and the views were fantastic, we could see the bay, Mount Vesuvius and had a lovely view of Naples. The view, for me was the highlight of the hotel. The room was perfectly fine, a good size. However the bathroom was not in very good condition, the toilet seat was not attached to the toilet properly, the whirlpool tub was dirty and just not what you'd expect for a hotel at this price point. The terrace, while large and lovely, has no lighting so you can't dine outside or really enjoy it

Dear, I am very reminded of this review of yours which is not in line with most of the others we receive. Surely the bathroom of his room will be revised immediately now that he has reported it. We already have a bathroom modernization program which we will start in November when we may close entire floors and not be too much of a nuisance to our customers. It is written everywhere that the swimming pool is open until September 30th. After this date we do not guarantee the service since being completely outdoors in our garden, and weather conditions are the first condition. As you admitted those days it was raining, that's why you couldn't use it and that's why the catering services were on the 4th floor (and not on the 7th floor which was therefore turned off due to the rain). card that we deliver on arrival with the wifi password. Breakfast from 7 to 10.30 Bar from 11.00 to 23.00 Dinner from 19.30 to 22.00. Regular hours as in many other hotels of the same category. Our restaurant has lighting in the indoor room and on the outdoor terrace. In addition, each table has its own abajour. We do not understand how you can say that you are in the dark. There are many pictures posted by other customers to testify this. In the days of her stay there was a storm over Naples, with even weather warnings for floods. Perhaps for these reasons you found it difficult to use our terraces and saw the waiters taken to close the umbrellas before they broke due to the wind or damaged their customers.

This hotel is up a hill. If you have mobility issues then you need to look at taxis or make sure you use the funicular. We walked with luggage - we managed but I know that would not be possible for everyone. We were thrilled with our early check in. The view from the room was breathtaking and the whole interior of the hotel was amazing. We did venture to the roof top bar but found that service was non existent. We had reservations in the restaurant on the first night. It’s worth it for the view and the food was delicious but service was slow to the point of painful. Breakfast was adequate but definitely not a selling point. Reception staff were very friendly and helpful.

Dear Rockchicktravel, thank yuo for your comments. The hotel is located in a dominant position overlooking the bay. You can use the two cable cars lines just 500 meter from the hotel to move up and down from the historical center. A taxi from the airoport cost only 30 euro and from the railway station 20 euro. You stay in the week when in Naples we had a strom and we were obiged to close our terraces because of wind and rain, that way you do not find the bar on the roof top because was moved at the 4 floor with the restaurant. Our menu is articolated and gourmet and each dish ned approx 20 minute of preparation, we do not have precooked food, we prapare everything at the moment. So dining is a pleasure and take time with us. Never forget you are on holiday and we already have a streeing live all the year at home. Sorry for teh breakfast but please feel free to segguest us what to add : bekery product selection (three type of crossants, local bread, wholemeal sandwiches, slices of pancarre, whole seasonal fresh fruits, slice seasonal fresch fruits, steamed vegetabes (broccoli or spinach) fried eggs, boiled eggs, bacon, wurstel, ham, salami, three kind of cheeses, rustic cakes, raw vegetables (tomatoes, carrots and fennels), fresh honeys, patisserie, jam or chocolate tart, plum cake, yogurt or cocoa donut, ham and butters, selection of yogurt, three kind of juices, water and hot drink like coffee, milk cappuccine fresh made

A hotel placed half way up a hill of Naples and providing views across to Vesuvius - A beautiful view to wake up to. As it's up the hill, if you want to venture out it is either by Taxi, via funiculaire (only up to 10pm) or walking up through the slightly more uncomfortable setting of the Spanish Quarter into town (which we grew to quite like although it might be a bit rougher/more chaotic for some!). You can't be surprised that a hotel with a great view might need some walking up a hill though. The hotel itself is a converted monastery and it probably plays on this a little to allow the decor to drop slightly - it could do with a makeover in areas. The art throughout the hotel is nice and the rooms are fine but you are effectively paying for the view. Very little information
