I am staying at the neighbouring hotel, lovely but average food. I walked over spontaneously tonight to have dinner here. It was absolutely delightful. Best food I have had so far in Italy. Wonderful staff, very tasty dishes, small and not to big. Really delicious. I can highly recommend

The rooms were really old fashioned but it had some charm to it. The balcony had a great view over the beach but the balcony door wasn't really soundproof and you could hear the waves outside. The breakfast was average. Would recommend coming there by car because there is no possibility to walk from there to near towns. The beach was nice.

The Summit Hotel is built into a cliff and is located about 10 minutes by taxi from the town of Gaeta. It is an hour and a half drive from Rome and an hour from Naples.

The view from the rooms is magnificent giving you views across the bay. And sitting on the balcony you are accompanied by the almost hypnotic sound of the close-by sea gently lapping on to the sandy shore.

It is very much a family oriented hotel yet even as a couple we loved it. They have a kiddies club and put on family events at night time on the terrace.

The rooms are airy and most have a sea view. I understand that they refurbish some rooms each winter. We had a lovely room that was spotlessly clean and a gorgeous view.

You step from the hotel directly on to the beach – no walk required.

The beach is fantastic with the finest golden sand I have ever encountered and the sea is just divine. Very safe for young children (and poor swimmers such as me) as it gently deepens and it is about 100 metres before it gets up to waist height. The water is crystal clear with not a single stone or rock to be found.

Yachts and motor boats seem to gather in the bay during the day but they cannot come close to or visit the beach.

When you go to get your beach towels from the life guards the first day, they also assign you a location on the beach for the duration of your stay. You get fresh towels every day. No need to worry about getting up at dawn to book your sunbathing spot! Wander to and from it any time you desire.

It has an lovely terrace where you can have a fine breakfast and lunch. It is also a relaxing location to have a few well-deserved ‘sun downers’ as the sun sets behind the cliff in the early evening (around 6:30ish).

If you are in real lazy mode, you can toddle up to the bar at lunch time and get a slice of pizza, etc and bring it back to your sun loungers to picnic on the beach.

We ate in the top floor restaurant twice and the food is very good and excellent value for a hotel – it is about the same price as most of the restaurants in the town itself. The view from the top floor restaurant is spectacular – the entire bay opens for you to see.

The staff are professional and very courteous. In particular, the bar staff are excellent and very friendly.

One thing to bear in mind, is that the taxi service in Gaeta itself seems to be quite scarce. We found a reliable and excellent taxi driver whom we used every evening to get into and home from the town – call 0039 328 467 5009 and ask for Luigi. He arrived at the time we wanted to be collected from the hotel and whenever we had finished in the town at night we would call him and he would collect us within 10 minutes. The cost was €15:00 one-way and worth every cent.

I adored this hotel and its location. Lapping up the sun’s rays on a magnificent beach, cooling down with a swim in the beautiful Mediterranean Sea, dining on the roof-top balcony in the balmy night, sipping a night-cap on your balcony – what more do you want for a relaxing sun holiday?

This hotel's public spaces are beautiful. But, that is all. The rooms are very outdated, the bathrooms are disgusting and there was a foul sewer smell in our rooms at night. When informed of the smell, the front desk first tried to dismiss it. When our friends, who were staying in the room directly above us said that they had the same problem, the hotel said they would send someone to "treat" the drains. If they did, it made not one bit of difference. Our friends were scheduled to stay for a week and checked out after the second night. We checked out after the first. We were told that we wouldn't get our money back because we prepaid through an online booking agency and the hotel had to pay a fee in advance based on our booking. Our friend showed them his bloody eye that he woke up with on the second morning and the hotel finallty agreed to do something. Turns out he has an infection and I wouldn't be surprised if it was a result of sewer gas in the room. Also, the air conditioner is loud and blasts all night, the beds are so hard that my leg fell asleep and the pillows are wafer-thin. This is definitely NOT a 4-star hotel by any stretch of the imagination and someone should be held accountable for defrauding the public in this way.

The location is wonderful but it's not worth coming here.
There is no information in the web page, at the front desk, in the room or at the wellness center that each person will be charged 15 euros for a visit. When I complained about this at the front desk they showed and announcement that had been erroneously misplaced and was not visible. But few hours later, when I went through the desk again it was not visible again. There are other signs of poor management: the doors between room and balcony cannot be locked (because they are broken). This means that it easy to cross from one room to the next. Finally on the private beach there was a big unleashed dog, probably property of the owners, which was scary and my wife couldn't go to the beach for some time, until the dog was tired to be there. The internet connection is very expensive too.....but this, surprisingly, is announced

This hotel is so full of silly flaws in management, it is a comedy... and it is such a shame because it is truly an amazing location, but the hospitality industry has more to do than just purchase real estate.

The most obvious faults are with the on premise food operations. Erratic hours, different restaurants for different things, under staffed, depressing decor, (the dinner restaurant is lit like a holding cell at the police station and they seat everyone on top of each other on cold aluminum black chairs, and outfit the tables with cheap polyester napkins...)and horrible food... and why on earth there is no outdoor seating, I'll never imagine. There is during the day, at the OTHER restaurant and maybe at the bar, but I never found said bar...who stays at a waterfront hotel and eats inside?

It is a near impossible feat to find said restaurants IN the hotel...you must take an elevator DOWN from reception, walk across a breezeway then go UP to the 5th floor. If you can find these small creepy elevators, you only have to remember that T means 2 on one bank and 5 means 2 on the other. They are so poorly maintained you only wish there were stairs somewhere, but there are not. To get to the beach? Don't even ask. You are on the beach, but can't actually find your way OUT to the beach. You have to ask someone at every turn, Dove il piaggi?

When you find the restaurants don't expect much...the buffet for breakfast is a circus of dry sweet breads, some packaged cereals, and automated caffe italiano. IN ITALY?! Per farvori! I looked for 20 minutes for a spoon. on the coffee station, the cereal station, the yogurt table...only knives. ??? But that is free. When you pay $24 for an entree of raw undercooked low quality "meat" with oily zucchini then more for wine, service and appetizers, you'll be really mad. And you can't go next door when you stay at the Summit, or into Gaeta town, without a car, or a 15E taxi each way...it's only 7 minutes, and that is ridiculously expensive. But know that you will be isolated and hungry if you go. I finally settled for room service and after 2 wrong deliveries, even the manager of the restaurant brought the food in correctly but forgot the silverware. It sat for 15 minutes more while he had someone else run for cutlery. All food is served with little fast food packets of iodized salt and pepper and olive oil. Again, in ITALY?

Here's to the hope that someone competent in the Hospitality Industry buys this place or maybe Gordon Ramsey will stop by.

So unfortunate, because the rooms have lovely views, the sand is soft, the water is on a cove, rock outcroppings are tall and majestic, and some of the staff are genuinely sweet people...they just don't know what they're doing...but that's the fault of management.

Just stayed at Summit in Gaeta with my family for 2 nights & it was an EXTREMELY BAD EXPERIENCE.
The price is high but the service, room and food extremely bad! Like in a cheap hotel. Old room where many things are broken, breakfast looks like in a cantina, lunch was disgusting (we couldn't even eat the food). The only good thing was the coffee and the beautiful view, but there are many other beautiful hotels in the area with the same view.

The beach is excellent. The hotel is very 3 star. Might have been 4 star at one time but no longer. Had to move rooms due to very foul sewer odour in our room. While the staff was accommodating and the replacement room quite nice I must warn others of the possibility of problems. Breakfast is very basic.

Our family stayed at the Summit Hotel in a suite that was large and clean, though not especially updated. I was pleased to see that there was a door separating our bedroom from the area where our adult son slept -- something that we always appreciate, since many hotel "suites" are just large bedrooms with a sofa bed at the end. We had asked for a room facing the ocean, but instead were given one with a large private patio, which turned out to be fine. My husband enjoyed sitting at the table out there is the early morning hours dealing with emails (do any of us ever get away from that on our jobs?). Our son enjoyed the fact that there were two TVs in the suite with good English language choices, including CNN. The private beach was incredible, with an area to the left side that had coral and small fish swimming around. The ocean was not at all deep close to the white-sand shore, which families with children should appreciate. The breakfast was very good, with made-to-order eggs and a view overlooking the ocean from the large outdoor patio where it was served. One very significant piece of advice -- if AT ALL POSSIBLE approach this hotel from the north. My husband had come to the hotel next door a few years ago, approaching from Sperlonga, and had no trouble at all finding it. This year we approached from the south and found that our GPS was totally confused, since the hotel has no specific number, just "km 23" as an address. Another "head's up" -- the hotel is on several levels with an elevator system that involves changing from one elevator to another to get to most places within the hotel. Adults (at least those who are not directionally challenged) can manage ok, but kids shouldn't be let loose to find their own way around. The on-site parking is at no additional charge.

I have stayed at this hotel 3 times. Until they update their rooms, I won't be coming back. The grounds of the hotel are beautiful and clean, and it's location to the beach is super convenient, it's just not enough to get me to come back until they do much needed renovations of their rooms. The mattresses and bedding are uncomfortable, the sliding doors are extremely hard to open and the metal on metal sound they make is annoyingly painful to the ear. The air conditioning barely works and the bathrooms are DISGUSTINGLY DIRTY!! It's too bad they've let the condition of this place deteriorate year after year because the staff is wonderful, as is the food.

Dear Debbie, our hotel has many strenghts and some weaknesses. It is true that some rooms could be considered a bit "old style" but we also have many different types of rooms and we try to compensate with lots of free services such as the beach, the wellness center and entertainment for both adults and kids. We do not agree on the bathrooms point as they get cleaned twice a day just like the rooms. We hope to have the chance to make you change your mind about us! Best regards
