Located near Piazza Navona, this hotel is within a walking distance from many main attractions in Rome. Situated on a typical narrow street, the hotel offers simple but cosy, clean and quiet rooms with all necessary amenities. To my great relief there was even an elevator (great help if you have a heavy suitcase and a room few floors up). A simple but sufficient breakfast is included in the room price and being served on a roof terrace. Nice during a warmer period of the year. Very helpful service at the reception desk - in fluent English!

This is a charming small hotel, quietly set in a beautiful location in the historical centre of Rome. It is tastefully furnished and has a lovely terrace where breakfast is served. My room was comfortable, with food wifi, and the ensuite bathroom had a walk-in shower (no need to climb into a bathtub). Service was friendly and helpful. There is an excellent restaurant right next door. I would highly recommend this lovely and welcoming hotel.

We stayed four nights at Hotel Portoghesi recently. This is a small hotel and the location is very central - in easy walking distance to the Parthenon, Treve Fountain and only about 30 min to the Colosseum or Vatican. There are many restaurants and gelato shops nearby. The desk staff were very helpful with restaurant recommendations, walking directions, requesting taxis, etc. The rooftop terrace for breakfast was delightful. The room was small, although typical by European standards, and was adequate for us. We would happily stay here again.

Snuggled in a historic part of Rome, next to the Baroque church of Sant' Antonio dei Portoghesi, the national church of the Portuguese community residing in the city and pilgrims visiting Rome and the Vatican, this hotel has much to offer but at the same time it lets itself down in so many ways.

Everything was clean, but just a little bit tired and while the staff on reception ordered a cab very quickly they were not able to offer any information about the church or tower (Torre dei Frangipane) next to the hotel.

The breakfast room closed at 10am but with no fridge in the room there was no way of storing cold water or getting a drink when we returned in the evening. I did ask for two cups and we were given them, but they were taken away by the cleaners! I had to remove the air freshener in the bathroom as it was very over powering.

There were enough plugs to charge our devices and the windows closed perfectly blocking out the noise in the street below.

Breakfast was adequate with the usual fruits, breads and freshly boiled eggs, cheese and cold meats.

There are lots of local restaurants but we relied on the other guests for recommendations.

We chose this hotel as it is listed in Rick Steve’s book (Italy) but we were rather underwhelmed.

The hotel is ideally located for sightseeing and exploring, but if visiting Rome again, we would look elsewhere.

The location was great, the room was spacious and clean, and the breakfast was excellent. There is a nice little market to buy water/wine/snacks just a few doors down, and the restaurant right in front was very good.

My only complaint is that I was improperly billed for my stay and after attempting to resolve it with the hotel directly I had to file a dispute with my credit card company who has taken care of it. About a month prior to check in I noticed a charge on my card for the cost of 1 night. I asked about the charge at checkout and was assured that the 1 night charge was just a check on my card and would disappear within 5 days of checkout when we paid in full. I was skeptical because it did not appear as a pending charge but I waited and kept an eye on it. When I returned home from the trip 10 days later the charge was still there and I contacted the hotel. I was again told that it was not a real charge, just a credit check and that I was never actually charged that amount and was told that I should contact my bank and they could explain it to me. I did just that and my credit card company explained that it was in fact a real charge. Fortunately, they filed the dispute and refunded the charge to me and I did not have to reach out to the hotel again.

Long story short, I recommend the hotel but I also recommend keeping a close eye on your credit statements. I want to believe it was just a mistake on their part in processing the credit check, but it is frustrating to be told repeatedly that you were not charged for something when you clearly were.

We had to change our travel plans and rooms at our usual hotel in Rome was booked. Reviews at this hotel were good so we made a reservation there about two months before our planned departure date. Unlike other hotels, when we asked to reserve a driver for an early morning flight, they wouldn't do it in advance and told us to ask them at check-in. Unlike other hotels, I asked for the names of a few restaurants nearby and they wouldn't do it until a few days before check-in. I like to have all of these details locked down before arrival for several reasons. So, we didn't have a good feeling about them. Finally, since we had such an early flight and feeling no loyalty to this hotel, we decided to change our plans, cancel this reservation and stay at the Hilton Fiumacino. It was totally my fault that I didn't read the fine print on our reservation which required a minimum 3 WEEKS ADVANCE NOTICE of cancellation or we'd have to pay the entire cost of the room. I have never experienced anything like this at any hotel in the US or elsewhere in Rome. So, we had to pay $280 for our room as if we had stayed there. I take responsibility for this and I understand their position as I'm sure they've had other experiences like this. However, our entire experience has been tainted badly and I wouldn't even consider staying here under any circumstances based on their attitudes toward service which their competitors seem to have found a way to handle.

The Hotel is clean, well-maintained and the staff was very helpful when asked to assist with restaurant reservations and local information. It is easy walking distance from the Trevi fountain, Vatican City and many other places of interest. The breakfast is of good quality, but the same every day; some variety might be nice for guests who are staying for a while. The rooftop breakfast room has beautiful views of the surrounding neighborhood.

My only negative comment is that the rooms are small, and the showers smaller. If you weigh over 100kg (about 220 pounds) then you may have difficulty even getting into the shower, the opening is that narrow. I am right at that weight and had to squeeze through sideways. This would certainly be an embarrassment to a guest who was a little larger and had to request another accommodation, and a disaster if no other option was available.

Based on the recommendation of a friend, we booked four nights at this small hotel in the heart of Rome. It was a great choice. Room was clean, comfortable and well equipped. The morning breakfast had plenty of options. Staff were friendly, courteous and helpful. The hotel is located within a 20-25 minute walk of Rome’s major attractions (e.g., Forum and Vatican) and close to many fine eateries.

We had a lovely three night stay at Hotel Portoghesi. You can't beat the location. A mere five minute walk from the Pantheon, steps from Piazza Navona, and 10-15 walk maximum to everywhere else in the Centro Storico. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The rooms were small but very comfortable and the air conditioning worked very well, a godsend in the Roman summer heat. The rooms were also much quieter than I expected. There's a popular restaurant whose outside seating was near our room's windows, and we barely heard any of that noise.

We really enjoyed our stay and look forward to staying at this hotel our next time in Rome.

Location of this classic small hotel is very convenient to many of the places we wanted to visit. We were able to walk to Trevi Fountain, Vatican City, Pantheon and to a metro stop which increased our range further. There are endless dining and shopping possibilities. Hotel staff is helpful and professional, breakfast is more than adequate. Room decor and mattresses are tired and need updating. Truly this is the only issue we had with the hotel, it will be easy to fix!
