The Mecenate Palace Hotel boasts an excellent central location, with guests lauding its proximity to key attractions and the panoramic views from the rooftop terrace. While some travelers appreciate the old-world charm and spotless rooms, others feel the hotel's rooms and amenities are somewhat dated and in need of an update.
The rooftop terrace and the substantial breakfast are popular, though opinions on value and service vary, with mentions of friendly staff but occasional sluggish service on the rooftop.

The hotel is really nice. It is a classic old-fashioned hotel with relatively small single rooms, but they have everything you need for a city break. I found the bed comfortable. The bathroom was almost entirely marble and equipped with delightfully old-fashioned fittings.
The hotel has a very high level of charm - this is already clear when you enter the reception. You feel like you're going back a little bit to the movies of the 60s. The staff is very friendly and helpful throughout.
Breakfast is very extensive by Italian standards. It was everything you needed and clearly more than just "Espresso + Cornetto". The coffee was very good and the waiters extremely friendly. In addition, breakfast is served in the rooftop restaurant, which gives you a view of the city in the morning.
The roof terrace is the perfect place for a sundowner with a wonderful view in the evening - the cocktails have their price, but it is worth it (note: better to reserve a table at the reception in the morning - it is often quite crowded).
The restaurant (we were there once) is also on the roof terrace. The food was really very good, upscale price category - but reasonable and delicious.
The location is very good, just a few streets from the Termini, directly opposite Santa Maria Maggiore, 20 minutes walk to the Colosseum and the Roman Forum. In the area there are plenty of restaurants and bars where you can eat and drink quite well.
Conclusion: always back

Hotel Mecenate is located about 5 minutes walk from Termini Train Station, right next to the Church of Santa Maria Maggiore.
The location is ideal to get to all the sights of the city on foot. And if you don’t like to walk, hop on buses leave directly at the church.
The room was large enough, equipped with safe, minibar and TV. Air conditioning is available for summer. The beds can be set up as a double bed or separately.
The windows keep the traffic noise off well, but when the window is open it is quite noisy.
The bathroom has bidet and a bathtub that can be used as a shower. Soap, shower gel, shampoo, hair conditioner and body lotion are refilled daily. The towels are changed daily (because we would like the towels to be changed only on request for environmental reasons) .
Breakfast is buffet style - there is something for everyone.
The breakfast room in the roof of the hotel with a roof terrace in front of it, which is used as a roof top bar in the evening, is special. Up there you have a beautiful view of the whole city, from Santa Maria Maggiore to the Colosseum and the Vatican.
We recommend everyone to enjoy the sunset from up there with a drink.

We chose this hotel for our 40th wedding anniversary for its location to the Santa Maria Maggiore and its views from the roof terrace. It’s not far, I would say approximately 5 minutes walk from the train terminal where all the buses side stop do its perfect for onward travel and travel to and from the airport. The rooms were clean and tidy albeit a little small. The maid service was excellent. Before we were due to stay I received a message from the hotel about transfers from the airport. We had already booked our transfer for 6 euros. Their transfer was 75 euros, I therefore declined but said we were looking forward to our stay. I did not receive a response. We asked reception for recommendation for an authentic Italian restaurant, the gentleman recommended one not too far away and we went there. Upon sitting down to eat we realised it was definitely not an authentic Italian trattoria. I cannot recall the name but there were quite odd things on the jab like pigs brains…and pigs ribs snd it was owned and run by a Croat. I therefore think that maybe the reception should maybe have a little more knowledge of the local restaurants as this would be an asset. Overall our stay was nice…I would recommend even though we didn’t even get a chocolate on our pillow for our special stay 😂

As staying for 3 nights wanted somewhere a bit more up marked, and this hotel ticked all the boxes, as only 10 mins walk from Termini station. Very nice décor as a 4 star hotel, porter took our bags up to room, only small for 3 of us but all rooms looked same size, but comfy beds good bathroom air conditioning worked well and a nice aray of bathroom soaps/shampoos etc. Included was breakfast which had quite a few english items to choose from but the bacon was the worst ever seen anywhere, nice big continentle range of foods etc to choose from as well. I asked for two teas and was brought 2 expresso’s. Changed it straight away but then came with no milk. You have to take meals on sky lounge on top floor outside with 360 degree views of Rome fantastic. This is where you have the restaurant for meals in the evening but were very very expensive, we ate just to the right of hotel in a restaurant on the corner with views of the church over the road, great food and drinks not the cheapest but reasonable prices with a nice outlook and pleasant staff, and where we used to stop off for a drink at lunch time. Hotel can book you a transfer to and from the airport, for 5 of us 80 euro (on the train would have been 85 euros) 50 mins in rush hour traffic well worth it. No doubt would stay here again as perfect location and great staff.

The hotel is well situated to allow you to explore Rome. It is somewhat corparate in its appearance and service. Although, saying this it was clean and comfortable. On our first night we made a dinner reservation for the roof top restaurant, it is a beautiful location with stunning views. Although the service was polite we found it somewhat pushy in its approach to up-selling dishes, this was somewhat off-putting and uncomfortable. Drinks and food were of a high quality and over all the stay was very enjoyable.

Hotel very dated, carpet worn on the stairs and exceptionally and small lift. Our room was so dated and badly laid out we kept bumping into each other! The bathroom was huge, the shower tiny and impossible to control the temperature- either freezing or scalding. Breakfast looked good and some was nice but generally uninspiring. The waiting staff took forever to get the coffee / tea order and the drinks were lukewarm warm. I know it was a city centre location and you pay more especially in Rome, but you really have to check small print. When we visited the rooftop bar which had a fab view we were told in no uncertain terms we could not sit in the ‘nice’ areas as they were all reserved but no one else was there. We had lunch in the outside coffee area which was fine.

My husband and I stayed in one of their suites for 3 nights. The room was very spacious and clean, as was the bathroom. The A/C worked wonderfully, which was much needed in July. The only drawback is that the decor is dated and that the hotel is kind of far from most of the big sites of Rome. With that being said, it was still a great place. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The breakfast that was served on the rooftop terrace was delicious and had a wide selection of offerings. It's also close to Termini Train Station, which allowed us to take the Leonardo Express train from FCO Airport to Termini. We walked from Termini to the hotel in about 5 or so minutes. This hotel is close to a stop on the A line and not too far from a stop on the B line of the Metro. I would recommend staying away from the Termini Station at night, as that area gets a bit seedy.

We chose this hotel as a couple for our stay in Rome precisely because of the photos seen on the internet and for everything you expect from a 4-star hotel paid 110 euros per night just to sleep without breakfast. A wonderful hall, so I was already imagining the room. However, we were taken to a room in a structure detached from the hotel, with an entrance staircase that was certainly different from that of the hotel. Therefore, the room, although not very bright because it was in an internal courtyard, was comfortable, warm and with a large and well-serviced bathroom, but with many things to improve, such as the jacuzzi which doesn't work. I would have preferred to stay in a room in the main building which was certainly more suitable for a four-star hotel, given that we travel to many of them and I know very well what they are like, or rather, how they should be. In any case, I recommend it, but I suggest calling and booking a room in your hotel by phone, since on online platforms you can't choose (I certainly wouldn't have chosen a suite but at least a nicer room in that structure) and end up in a room that you certainly expected to be better.

This was our 8th stay at Mecenate Palace. We really enjoy Rome and love staying here. That is why we keep coming back. It would be a nice gesture of the hotel to 'recognise' returning guests. Espescially when you ask guests to tick the box 'are you a returning guest?' when they make a reservation. It would save the staff at reception some time (no need to explain about the breakfast/bar/restaurant:...) and it would make feel returning guests a bit more welcome. Just saying. Apart from that we enjoyed out stay. Although the hotel rooms need some TLC (the tap of the shower was leaking, water of the shower tap was spraying on the ceiling, the AC does not always work, the ventilation in the bathroom is not always functioning,...) this is a charming and very convenient place to stay. We enjoyed breakfast on the rooftop with the amazing view on the Santa Maria Maggiore. (the wasps are a problem though) You can easily walk to anywhere or take the train at Termini (5' walk) to get to the airport/Ostia/Tivoli.

Wonderful stay in this hotel, very friendly staff and always ready to help. We got our room quickly well before the scheduled time. This hotel should be a little refreshed, but that's part of its charm. Nothing is missing and this palace atmosphere is really nice and romantic. Breakfast is good with local produce. As for his situation, it's perfect. We have made most of our walking tours and Termini train station is 5 minutes away. In a few minutes you are at the Coliseum or the Trevi Fountain (15 minutes). We had taken the deluxe room on floor 5a with extraordinary views of the Basilica of St Mary Major.

Hi. I haven't used the Ciampino airport, but acording Google Maps there are busses to go to Termini train station.
During my vacations in Rome, I used UBER with success.
In your case, would be around 25 minutes by Uber to go to the Mecenate hotel.
I hope helped you.
Cheers

Hi, from memory the lift goes up to the second to top floor, there’s a short staircase up to the roof terrace. It’s a great hotel and the view in the early evening at sunset is stunning, we will go back.
There are more places to choose from in the Rome area.
