We recently stayed a the Mecenate Palace hotel for three nights. Overall, we were disappointed in the property. The lobby is very opulent. Upon entry of the hotel you think, "WOW this is a very upscale hotel." Once you get to your room the story is very different. The rooms are very small (which we expectetd, it's Eurpoe!), but the...

This hotel was recommended by a fellow Slow Food member. We spent 2 weeks in Italy - we were staying at a friend's house in the Tuscan hills and this was our only hotel stay during the trip. It is close to the Termini for arriving by train. Staff is very friendly and the breakfast was excellent with a nice...

First time visitor to Rome, and I booked this hotel based on the reviews I read on trip advisor and it did not disappoint. Friendly staff, very friendly bell hops ( thanks Majendra) , very classy lobby, and nice clean rooms. THE LOCATION WAS GREAT. 15-20 minute walk to Coloseum and Roman Forum and 10 minute walk to train (Termini...

The front desk was always very helpful and ready to recommend places to eat or ways to get around the city. The breakfast on the roof top terrace was a great way to start the morning, wonderful view...

The hotel has recently been refurbished and there was some minor painting being carried out while we were there. We stayed for 3 nights choosing to dine in their rooftop restaurant on the first evening. The menu choices appeared a little basic but the quality of the food was excellent and exceeded my expectations. I recommend having a drink in the rooftop...

I decided to stayed here because of the good reviews i read on trip advisor and i was not disapointed. When myself and my boyfriend arrived we were greeted by a friendly receptionist who put us in the apartments instead of the room we had booked, but we were delighted when we saw it. The appartment was spacious, bright and...

Again, I found the reviews of this hotel very positive and decided to book. The hotel makes a fairly good impression as the facade and lobby area are well renovated; the staff were pleasant and helpful and assisted where possible. The advertised wi-fi wasn't included but luckily for us we ended up doing a fair bit of research before reaching...

We spent 3days and 2 nights at the Mecenate. We had a room in the "Executive Wing" which once you are inside may be but involved entering through a dirty door surrounded by scaffolding then a flight of about 30 stairs to get to a locked door into the Wing. Our room was very nice, spacious, modernised though old fashioned...

We spent one night at the hotel. Booked a family room which was really spacious with a large bathroom. Staff really helpful- providing maps and good information. Also spoke excellent English. Breakfast continental with a good choice of fruit ( including fresh and tinned), selection of cheeses and meats, cereal, yoghurts, breads and pastries. Very good value for money.

Staying in Esquilino

Neighbourhood Profile
Esquilino
Old school vibe from the very beginning is the only way to describe the Esquilino neighbourhood. The Esquilino takes pride in being one of the oldest areas in Rome for its key location on one of the city’s famous seven hills. From an ancient neighbourhood to its modern incarnation as a multicultural hub, Esquilino always has something going on—polyglot vendors debate street artists while kids play pick-up basketball games. Look around you: this area isn’t like the historic centre. Liberty architecture, large piazzas, and long boulevards mix with archaic arches, secret side alleys, and beautiful churches like Santa Maria Maggiore.
