We (5 ladies) just got back from our trip through Italy, ending in Rome. I picked this hotel because of the location...close to the train station and after reading the other reviews. I was concerned because some said the area was questionable, turned out not to be true. We had driven in from Florence and had about an hour to...

We recently stayed here for 2 nights. The main reason we chose this hotel was because it was well ranked in Tripadvisor and we got a good rate for a Rome hotel. The neighborhood did not prove to be a problem to us. We felt safe whether we walking about during the day or late in the evening. It was...

We have stayed in Mecenate Palace for four nights. It was quite pleasant but rather a lower end of a 4* hotel rather than a full 4*. Very close to the Coloseum and the Forum, so in this respect it was great. However, the hotel is on a hill (Esquiline hill), so it could be a tiring climb when returning...

My partner and I stayed here for 3 nights from the 23 to 26 April. Having been on several websites including the hotel's I decided to book the Residence rather than the hotel itself. This is located a couple of doors down from the hotel and up a flight of marble steps. I made this choice for several reasons- firstly...

My wife and i stayed at this hotel from 1st April for 4 nights. I had read all the reviews and knew what to expect on arrival. The hotel is located about a 10 minute walk from the rail station which we used to travel in from the airport. This is a simple and cheap way to acces the centre...

My wife and I stayed here for a week long break in Rome. I had read all the reviews on this website and I have to say that we were more than happy with our choice. The Mecenate Palace rooms were really nice, small compared to what you get in the US but perfectly adequate. We stayed in the main...

My husband recently spent a week at the Mecenate Palace Hotel in Rome. It was a lovely and clean hotel in a wonderful area of Rome. It was a few blocks from the main train station, plus it was in easy walking distance to many of the sites in Rome. Included with the room was a breakfast every morning that...

We are a group of friends who have a city break together once a year. We leave husbands, boyfriends and children behind for a break away with 'the girls' although this is not necessarily an accurate description of our age range! This year was Rome and it was fabulous. We arrived late Friday morning and it was lunchtime by the...

Staying in Esquilino

Neighbourhood Profile
Esquilino
Old school vibe from the very beginning is the only way to describe the Esquilino neighbourhood. The Esquilino takes pride in being one of the oldest areas in Rome for its key location on one of the city’s famous seven hills. From an ancient neighbourhood to its modern incarnation as a multicultural hub, Esquilino always has something going on—polyglot vendors debate street artists while kids play pick-up basketball games. Look around you: this area isn’t like the historic centre. Liberty architecture, large piazzas, and long boulevards mix with archaic arches, secret side alleys, and beautiful churches like Santa Maria Maggiore.
