Just back from a four day visit to Rome. We stayed at the Hotel Sonya. On first sight it doesn't impress you as a Hotel. It is more like those old Italian 'palazzi'. It even has an old lift which in my life I had never seen anything like it, but it worked well!!!! The receptionist was really nice and... More

Upon driving into Rome, we found Hotel Sonya easily by using our GPS. Hotel staff were quick to greet us and help unload our suitcases. Once done there is a carpark just around the corner. Our suitcases along with the hotel porter went up first in the very old, looks like 1920 vintage elevator as it can only lift so... More

I went to Rome with a group of friends this Easter, due to beautification of Pope John Paul II, it was quite difficult to find a hotel Eventually I chose Hotel Sonya, which appeared reasonably close to metro/train station Termini. The room was ok, but a bit dim, shower of bathroom was quite small considering that I am only of... More

A fine place to stay in downtown Rome, across the street from the opera house, close to metro stop and train terminal, walking distance to many Rome sites. Metro or bus advisable to go to the Vatican. Modest but adequate-size room, somewhat cramped bathroom. Breakfast with a lot of variety and staff offering juice, coffee, etc. Stayed for three nights... More

Stayed here for three nights before taking the train to Naples. Great location near the Metro and the train station. Room was nice and very clean. Breakfast was very good and yummy cappucino! I enjoyed the stay!

This was our second stay at Hotel Sonya so obviously it works for us. We've traveled to Rome quite a few times over the years and on earlier trips I took the advice of others who did not like the Termini area but IMO that area is just fine and super convenient, either for Rome sightseeing, day trips or for... Stayed first 3 nights in L'Opera, room was small but adequate and clean, would definitely not have booked here if I had had accurate photos to view the rooms and reliable reviews. Last night of our trip we had also booked here, stayed in main hotel, room was SO small, the 2 of us and bellboy had to open door... More

Stayed here recently with a group - hotel was in a great location. Very clean, nice rooms, good breakfast. Staff was wonderful. Close to the train station. I would recommend staying here if you are looking for a resonably priced hotel.

When we checked in we were told we would be put in the "new" secion, which turned out to be the old Hotel L'Opera Roma about a half block away which the Sonya had acquired. We got a tiny room with a bad smell. Don't know what the smell was - not stale cigarette smoke. A sour stench that brought... More

We wanted a clean, comfortable hotel within walking distance of Termini railway station and close to major historical sites of Rome. Hotel Sonya delivered. Staff were friendly and knowledgeable of the area. Room was modern and larger than the standard size. Breakfast was good and included in price. Internet access available in reception free of charge. Plenty of restaurants and... More

Staying in Esquilino

Neighbourhood Profile
Esquilino
Old school vibe from the very beginning is the only way to describe the Esquilino neighbourhood. The Esquilino takes pride in being one of the oldest areas in Rome for its key location on one of the city’s famous seven hills. From an ancient neighbourhood to its modern incarnation as a multicultural hub, Esquilino always has something going on—polyglot vendors debate street artists while kids play pick-up basketball games. Look around you: this area isn’t like the historic centre. Liberty architecture, large piazzas, and long boulevards mix with archaic arches, secret side alleys, and beautiful churches like Santa Maria Maggiore.
