The service is excellent. The breakfast very good. They provided a map of Rome that was very useful. The staff is very friendly and polite. I found if you are friendly, even if we all are struggling with the language differences, everyone is friendly and helpful. The air conditioning was great in the room. It sure got hot in Rome....

We stayed here for three nights. This is the perfect location from which to tour Rome. It is about a seven minute walk from the main train station. We also walked to all the main attractions from the hotel. (Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps, Colosseum) Our room was clean and comfortable and the air conditioner worked well. We heard very little...

Positives: Staff is very friendly and did help when asked. Rooms were clean. Close to Termini station. Negatives: Wi-fi very unpredictable. Beds and pillows very uncomfortable. Shower did not drain very well. Air conditioning definitely lacking. Overall: We would try another hotel before going back.

Being near the train station, subway, and walking distance to most sights made this a convenient hotel to be at. We were offered a room in their newer location and we enjoyed having a very comfortable bed and modern bathroom. The staff were helpful and let us have some breakfast before the usual time on the morning that we had...

After site seeing all day in Rome, it was nice coming back to our cool, clean hotel room. We would relax in the evening always looking forward to breakfast the next morning due to Chef Farhad and his staff. He greeted us with wonderful cafe lattes and baked goods which he prepared each morning for guests of the hotel. We...

As part of a Heart of Italy, Rick Steves tour, we stayed at the Hotel Sonya for the last 2 nights of our trip and then an extra night afterward. It was an excellent choice. It was very conveniently located near the Termini station (for buses or trains) and we could walk virtually anywhere from it. The room was a...

Based on TripAdvisor reviews and Rick Steves listing, we wrote for a reservation. Initially, we got an immediate reply. We wrote back (twice) through the hotel's website changing the dates, but after 3 days, we have not yet had any reply or acknowledgement from the hotel. We will, therefore, be forced to look elsewhere.

Having read all the reviews praising this hotel, we were optimistic, and not disappointed when we arrived. It's a lovely, charming hotel in an ideal location for all modes of transport and even walking distance from some of the main sites and monuments. The hotel is kept spotlessly clean and the staff are so pleasant and friendly. Our thanks go...

Hotel Sonya was fine, but given how often it pops up online and is (supposedly) soooo highly recommended by Rick Steeves, it really was no different from any other budget to medium priced hotel. Rooms were tiny - as was the bathroom and the elevator. The front desk was not particularly helpful either. Breakfast staff was very pleasant. Location of...

We were so impressed with this little hotel! We were nervous because it was relatively inexpensive, but we were pleasantly surprised. The staff were so friendly and generous with information. We walked to Termini with our luggage and it was an easy walk. We could hear sounds from the streets, but no more than another large center city location. It...

Staying in Esquilino

Neighbourhood Profile
Esquilino
Old school vibe from the very beginning is the only way to describe the Esquilino neighbourhood. The Esquilino takes pride in being one of the oldest areas in Rome for its key location on one of the city’s famous seven hills. From an ancient neighbourhood to its modern incarnation as a multicultural hub, Esquilino always has something going on—polyglot vendors debate street artists while kids play pick-up basketball games. Look around you: this area isn’t like the historic centre. Liberty architecture, large piazzas, and long boulevards mix with archaic arches, secret side alleys, and beautiful churches like Santa Maria Maggiore.
