Hotel staff were very cordial, breakfast was outstanding and the hotel is near the train station so you can walk to and fro. Rooms are a great value based on other places we have stayed.

From the hotel clerks to the staff in the breakfast area these folks make you feel welcome and are eager to help you find restaurants, attraction tickets or transportation. The room we stayed in (552) was in the newer area and was well appointed. The hotel wasn't easy to find even though it is directly across from the Opera House...

We (my husband and I, along with another couple) spent 4 nights at Hotel Sonya in May. The hotel is located about a 5 min walk from the main train station (Roma Termini), and we had not issues walking to the hotel from there with all our luggage, not necessary to get a taxi. It is about a 20 min...

We had decided to spend 3 days in Rome, after returning from a 12-day cruise. I had researched hotels in Rome and so I was putting a lot of faith into what I read (in addition, Rick Steves had highly recommended this hotel). When we pulled up to Hotel Sonya, honestly, I thought I would die! My husband said, 'looks...

I spent along time trying to find a hotel in Rome that had a central location and received good reviews on Trip Advisor and this was one of the few that came back with good reviews. It was a great choice. Central location for site seeing, close to station for trains and metro. The old fashioned lift made it vey...

My friends and I enjoyed our stay at this hotel. It was a short walk from the train station, which was great since we came in by train from Venice. The Metro was also close by for travel around the city. The room was spacious and had a view of the Opera House across the street. I will say the...

The Hotel Sonya is located within reasonable walking distance from Termini, so that was a plus for us as we were traveling to the Amalfi Coast by train after seeing Rome. The rooms were not large but they were comfortable with telephone, TV and free Wi-fi access. The breakfast buffet offered a variety of pastries, cheese, coffee and juice plus...

Silvia who was at the front desk was so very helpful with suggestions for meals, on/off bus tours, and help with little questions that came up. She made sure the room reservations were done correctly. The hotel is conveniently located. Our room was small and lovely. Breakfasts are delicious - I miss their caffe latte already! Everything we could have...

We only stayed one night at this hotel and found it ok but not that special. The rooms are small and functional which is fairly normal for Rome. The hotel is clean and neat and our room faced away from the street so it was quiet. The breakfast is a rather small but pretty good buffet in a small windowless,...

The hotel has new rooms (Sonya Suites) though they are only rooms, and this is on Via Firenze, just down the road. I asked for a nice room as wedding anniversary and they put is in here. Very nice, newly refurbished. Service excellent. Good englsh and helpful. Don' be fooled into a taxi ride from the train station, we got...

Staying in Esquilino

Neighbourhood Profile
Esquilino
Old school vibe from the very beginning is the only way to describe the Esquilino neighbourhood. The Esquilino takes pride in being one of the oldest areas in Rome for its key location on one of the city’s famous seven hills. From an ancient neighbourhood to its modern incarnation as a multicultural hub, Esquilino always has something going on—polyglot vendors debate street artists while kids play pick-up basketball games. Look around you: this area isn’t like the historic centre. Liberty architecture, large piazzas, and long boulevards mix with archaic arches, secret side alleys, and beautiful churches like Santa Maria Maggiore.
