The Hotel Gerber was clean, and the rooms were large. We had a great shower, and there is an elevator (all of these are rare in Italy). The staff was very helpful, and they stowed our luggage in a secure location after checkout. The Metro is very close, and the Vatican is a 10 minute walk. We did not have...

Stayed there in August and was quite happy with the hotel. My single room was clean with a small glass covered balcony. The room was small but not unlike most rooms in Italy. The hotel is in a quiet area close to the metro and Vatican which made getting around easy. The owner was quite friendly and spoke english having...

We stayed at the Hotel Gerber two weeks ago (Oct. 2004) and enjoyed the quiet neighborhood within walking distance to the Vatican. Our room was very small, but adequate, clean and very quiet. It is near the Metro (1 1/2 blocks) and has a nice patio out back. Our breakfast was pleasant. We have already recommended this hotel to friends.

Our experience (in April 2004) was quite different from some of the other reviewers. The hotel was fine. We had a clean, comfortable room and the bathroom was quite good. Breakfast was pretty standard compared to hotels in Milan and Florence; the man who served breakfast was very sweet and friendly (front desk staff is more reserved). The on-line reservation...

We left Orvieto heading for the Amalfi Coast stopped in Rome and found a wonderful place at the Hotel Gerber. The staff was friendly and helpful, our room was perfect and the outdoor courtyard was so peaceful and quiet. We will certainly return to the Hotel Gerber.

The hotel is not bad for the price. The staff was reserved but helpful when asked. The breakfast was very bright and good. The rooms small but clean. The metro stop is accross the two-way street. It's not a six lane hgwy. The station is grubby but so is the rest of Rome. The sights are metro stations away but...

We visited the Gerber last May for five days. First we were placed in a little room facing the courtyard withouth any daylight (although we booked a quiet room on the top floor). As we refused to stay there (it was like a bear's den for the stuff) we were given a bright, well-equipped room - with the window directly...

Staying in Prati

Neighbourhood Profile
Prati
Just steps away from the chaos of the centre, Prati is the closest Rome gets to calm. Meticulously planned in a neat grid, quite unlike neighbouring Borgo, Prati is a local favourite for its aesthetic organisation and wide streets lined with a range of boutiques for every shopping fantasy. Nonnis pushing baby carriages and gossiping teens own every inch of the sidewalk, but that’s only during business hours. Once the sun sets, quirky sidestreet bars celebrate aperitivo hour, those evening cocktails that help wash away the tensions of Roman life.

“Ask for 428 "the wedding suite" which is a large double room on the top floor with own balcony. There is also a common balcony on the top floor which is very nice. It has no spectacular view but we loved sitting there with a glass of champagne watching the stars and just enjoying being in Rome.”
