Neighbourhood
Esquilino
Old school vibe from the very beginning is the only way to describe the Esquilino neighbourhood. The Esquilino takes pride in being one of the oldest areas in Rome for its key location on one of the city’s famous seven hills. From an ancient neighbourhood to its modern incarnation as a multicultural hub, Esquilino always has something going on—polyglot vendors debate street artists while kids play pick-up basketball games. Look around you: this area isn’t like the historic centre. Liberty architecture, large piazzas, and long boulevards mix with archaic arches, secret side alleys, and beautiful churches like Santa Maria Maggiore.

Bad points: 1. Room fairly basic, some items broken (coat hooks, bulb at side of bed) damaged (sink cracked) or dirty (wall has scuff marks) and shower goes hot, cold or not - depending on who else is using it in the hotel or surrounding area... (several hotels on same spot) 2.

Room was basic but clean and adequate. Close to all Rome's attractions. Staff were very helpful. I got bitten by a mosquito and had a bad reaction during my stay and staff were very helpful giving me extra pillows to keep leg elevated etc. Handy pharmacy over the road

The hotel was clean but tired. Obviously very nice in it's day. Was more than adequate for my stay. The staff were both friendly and helpful. Breakfast was well prepared and the service was prompt. Sometimes people ask too much of a reasonably cheap hotel...if you want 5 star

Took ages to locate the hotel as there is no signage. Staff friendly enough but the rooms!! They showed me three. All showers were covered in mould, bedding on the first room, top cover had holes. First room had no window. All walls were grubby. To be honest I left the hotel

How far is it from airport?
Hotel Tre Stelle is located in central Rome, near the Termini Station (ok 1 subway station away, near Castro Pretorio, but it can be reached from Termini by foot). So this is to say that it's as far from the airport as Rome is. If you take the Leonardo Express train direct from Fumicino Airport terminus Termini Station, then it's close.

For the distance to the airport, I've already answered you, but here I go again: "Hotel Tre Stelle is located in central Rome, near the Termini Station (ok 1 subway station away, near Castro Pretorio, but it can be reached from Termini by foot). So this is to say that it's as far from the airport as Rome is. If you take the Leonardo Express train direct from Fumicino Airport terminus Termini Station, then it's close." When my SO and I stayed almost ten days 4 years ago, it wasn't so dreadful as the comments seem to stay (it is true that by some miracle I didn't read the comments or I might have not booked at all). The hotel didn't have telephone in the rooms nor wifi back then, but then I've just read reports that they didn't actually have wifi. My SO is scheduled to go again with her parents in a couple of weeks, I'll learn the truth soon! :D

Yes the hotel is relatively close to Termini Station. It is clean, though the decor is in poor condition. The staff, particularly the breakfast staff are unpleasant. As for feeling safe, in and around Termini Station, I definitely didn't feel safe. I witnessed various individuals loitering and watching for an opportunity to help themselves to others possessions. There are signs warning about pickpockets so beware. Rome itself is amazing.
