Great small hotel. Near Trevi Fountain and Spanish steps. Lots of restaurants nearby. Staff so friendly and helpful. Hotel very clean. Room was small but adequate. Breakfast choice good. Reception staff very welcoming. Arranged early morning transfer for us to airport. Highly recommend.

We were very grateful to find a room at this hotel on short notice when our other hotel booking turned out to be a doss house.
The room at Hotel Madiglioni was reasonably priced at 90 euro for the night including breakfast for two.
the room was clean, the location quiet ( especially welcome as we had a long flight the next day and needed a good sleep), the bed was comfortable.
The staff were wonderful, friendly, professional, helpful and rustled us up some food at 9:30 pm. Classy interior and the breakfast was superb- this made it really good value.
Downsides were that there was no aircon in the room and the room got progressively hotter during the night (or so it seemed). I would not like to stay there in the summer for that reason (in fairness, I prefer a cool room to sleep in, it might not be a problem for someone else) and the extractor fan in the bathroom didn't work.
The other rather unusual thing was that there was no kettle or cups in the room, you had to go downstairs to the bar for refreshment. A kettle would be greatly appreciated.
I would recommend this for a peaceful stay in Rome and will be returning if we revisit. Many thanks.

Stayed hear late September 2020, booked on a 3rd party website, and had some issues with room booking. Emailed hotel, and were very helpful in making sure we got a balcony room prior to arrival.

Upon arrival we were greeted by Enzo, hoi is an absolute credit to the hotel owners, and was very helpful throughout our 5 night stay.

Great location, and if you've never been to Rome before, this hotel is within easy walking distance to all the tourist sites

The room itself although small (most European rooms are), was very intimate, with a great feel of Roman romanticism, opening the rustic doors out onto the charming balcony was a highlight every morning. The hotel is very traditional, with a grand feel from the moment you walk through the door. It's hard to describe, you will understand when you get there.

There is a local shop just down the charming cobbled street from the hotel that can supply most of your snacks etc, and an absolutely outstanding restaurant about 30 seconds walk away down the cobbles - a visit there is a must, speciality is truffle - the meatballs are to die for!

The hotel is slightly set back from the main square, which just adds to the ambiance, we will definately be returning for our next visit to Rome, and would rate it as one of the most charming hotels we have ever stayed at, and we are very well travelled. A true gem in the centre of the city

We stayed there 3 days.
Pros: Rooms were very clean and all of the staff polite and ready to serve. Location was very good.
CONS: Typical doudle rooms are very small some of them with just a window and few with balcony. Bathrooms are even smaller.
Breakfast was far below average. Very poor variety of fruits and cereal. Just boiled eggs(we had to ask for a small portion of scrambled eggs). Bread was for sure stale!
My suggestion is not to pay extra for breakfast!

Response from Hotelmodigliani, Front Office Manager at Hotel Modigliani
Responded Jan 29, 2020
Dear guest, thank you for sharing your comment on TripAdvisor. I hope that you enjoyed your stay at our Hotel. Hotel Modigliani is a Boutique Hotel. Following the philosophy of Marco and Giulia, Hotel Owners, every day the staff offer professionalism and all the best to get our guest’s satisfaction. I'm sorry of your perception of the Hotel services. I have to clarify that breakfast is served inside a very elegant room paved with Carrara marble. We serve a variety of genuine products that include home-made pastry but also scrambled eggs cooked at the guest order, yogurt, corns, ham, cheese, and variety of quality local products. We hope to welcome you back at the Hotel Modigliani soon Regards

We only stayed one night. The location of the hotel in the peaceful side street is excellent. Still for example the Spanish steps are around the corner and you can walk almost to everywhere. Also the garden of Villa Borghese is near and many other attractions (also for shopping if you like). And if you want to go for a dinner to the popular area of Trastevere you can walk there and take a taxi back (not expensive).
The hotel is very clean, the staff very friendly and the breakfast is good.
The room was enough spacious and both the room & the bathroom were beautifully decorated - we really liked it. The only complain (but important) is that the room was heavily perfumed - so this is not for allergic people! The room temperature was set permanently to 25'C so it was also very hot.
Hopefully the otherwise great hotel gives up for the room perfumes!

Beware - we stayed at Hotel Modigliani for our first two nights in Italy and for three nights at the end of our trip and had two different experiences. For our first two nights our room was clean and comfortable (small but many hotel rooms in Rome are small) with an updated bathroom. Upon check in for the last three nights of our trip our room was not at all acceptable (see attached photos). The air conditioning vent was black with mold. We immediately reported it to the front desk staff and asked to be moved another room. We were told that they were completely booked and that we should open the window and not run the air that night and they would give us another room the next day. It was warm and humid and very noisy. We had a uncomfortable night. The next day while we were out sightseeing the staff moved our belongings to another room which was smaller than our original room with a bathroom that was not remodeled. We stayed there without complaint because we did not see visible mold and were able to cool the room.

When we reported the issue we were told that we would not be charged for the first night. As it turned out that person later denied saying that and we ended up paying full price for a room that should not have been assigned to anyone. This is bad business practice for any establishment.

This could be a great boutique hotel. The location is good as is the breakfast where the servers are professional and kind.

Really no idea how this place got 4.4 stars and is rated a 3 star hotel. The room was “cleaned” meaning the bed was made and new towels were given. There were stains on the bedsheets when we checked in they were still there after they cleaned the room. The room was run down with stains on the ceiling. They ask you to leave your key before you leave the hotel each day which is new to us but not the biggest deal. Most of the staff was nice but the chef at breakfast is beyond rude and not even a good chef. She can make scrambled eggs….do you want cheese with that, no she will yell about it in Italian and make you feel small. I wouldn’t recommend this hotel, and if management really wants to improve get a real chef who is kind not this mean lady who yells at us each morning. Biggest plus is the location.

The hotel is is in a very good location you can reach public transport and the sides within a few minutes. Trevi fountain is only a 10-minute walk from the hotel. The staff at the reception is always helpful but sometimes a bit slow. We were a bit disappointed because we didn't get more shampoo after the second day. So I had to walk down stairs in the middle of the night to get more Shampoo or shower gel. I have no idea why they they didn't put more in our bathroom. It's not that I was going to take it back home, its because I have very thick hair so I need a lot of shampoo. 😅 The restaurant recommendation they had for us was also pretty bad. We were very disappointed. The the room and hotel was clean though and I think it is perfectly located for a city trip. They also have a very nice courtyard, such a shame they don't have a bar to serve glass of wine or beer. So we brought our own drinks and had a sundowner there. The breakfast was also great, the freshly made scrambled eggs where yummy 😊 I would said they have enough for everyone.

We recently spent three nights here and truly enjoyed our stay. The hotel is in a fantastic location, just off Piazza Barberini on a quiet side street. The staff were helpful and pleasant and recommended amazing neighbourhood restaurants each night. The hotel is lovely, with amazing art, a great courtyard and also a nice reception/lounge. There were four of us and we had a classic twin located on the first floor and the superior room with balcony on the sixth floor. The rooms were spotless, had high quality linens and finishing and were quite large. The air conditioning was excellent. Breakfast was standard and in the evening their bar offers wine and snacks. This was a very comfortable hotel and we enjoyed our stay. We will be back!

Beware of the "balcony" room. We paid extra for a balcony room for 3 nights, booked months in advanced directly through the hotel. What we got was a "balcony" with no furniture a few steps up from the smoking lounge/garden on the 1st floor. We had to request a table and chairs that ultimately didn't fit. It was very disappointing. When aaked if we could be moved we were told the hotel was fully booked despite the fact that we were one of the first to arrive for check-in that day.

We also had problems with the shower drain not working properly leading to a puddle in the shower and a very soggy floor towel after each shower.

But the most problematic thing that occurred was when we returned to the hotel at midnight and found a sign that the the staff had gone on break and they left our room key on the counter. Anyone could have taken it since the lobby door was open and there was no one to be seen. I would not return nor recommend this hotel.
