The Hotel Santa Maria is an Hotel de Charme located in a 16th century cloister completely renovated in the year 2000 maintaining the flavour of the original construction. It makes a very pleasant base in a romantic and relaxing ambience. The hotel is located in an historical area of central Rome in the heart of one of the most ancient and characteristic neighbourhoods of the city, Trastevere. Our guests can easily walk from the Hotel to the historical and archaeological beauties of the city. It is also possible to drive to the hotel with the parking available at the private Garage next to the Hotel. The Hotel rooms, connected by a monastic portico, face onto an ample and silent garden of orange-trees, flowers and Mediterranean plants, or onto our rooftop garden, framed by evergreen vines... perfect settings to enjoy your breakfast in the warm and sunny roman days , or just for relaxing after a day of sightseeing The Hotel has a number of bicycles should you wish to cycle through the alleys of ancient Rome. The Hotel is Internet connected by secured Wireless Lan. You can comfortably use your PC where you like: at the lounge Bar, in the garden or in your room. If you are travelling without your PC, a computer with free Internet connection is at your disposal in the Living Room. You can relax in the romantic atmosphere of our bar or our garden with a glass of excellent wine, chosen from the selection of refined Italian wines stocked in our Cellar (from Vermentino di Gallura to Brunello di Montalcino), before you venture out into the narrow streets of Trastevere in search of a good trattoria or restaurant. After site-seeing in the ' Eternal City ' , our rooftop garden, framed by evergreen vines, with lounge chairs facing the sun, awaits you for relaxation in an ambience of refined comfort. Trastevere
Trastevere ("beyond the Tiber") is like a faded postcard, a little worn around the edges but still charming. With its wide-open piazzas, meandering streets, weathered Renaissance buildings, and overgrown personality, it's become an irresistible mecca for visitors. Trastevere is an enclave of entertainment - a rotating set of street performers entertains almost every night, and unforgettable eateries and bars pepper its piazzas and side streets. For a trip to the past, visit the southern and western flanks of Trastevere for pockets of yesteryear, less traversed areas with a residual 1960s and 70s Roman vibe.

The Hotel Santa Maria was a quiet and calm oasis in the middle of Trastevere. We stayed here in late December and our room was clean, adequately sized, and comfortable. The staff were so friendly and helpful. Breakfast was just right, although we walked to some amazing little cafes across the Tiber for our morning caffeine hit. I would highly recommend this hotel for couples, families, or solo travellers who are looking for a stay in a unique re-purposed hotel. We miss the tolling of the church bells - a sound we will always associate with Trastevere!

Small property, but very clean and secure for Rome. Friendly, helpful staff. Centrally located, reasonably priced. I would definitely stay again and would recommend it to anybody. Loved the courtyard and orange trees, an oasis in the heart of the city.

We spent 3 nights here in December to celebrate birthdays. The hotel is in what used to be a convent. Although right in the heart of Trastevere, just across from the famous church, it is remarkably quiet; entering through the iron gates you walk along a driveway to reach reception, and the rooms are beyond, around attractive inner courtyards, with trees, outside tables, etc. An attractive breakfast room offers a good choice (hot dishes too) from the buffet, while friendly and obliging staff will bring you freshly made tea or coffee. The room doubles as a bar in the evenings (with complimentary nibbles at 'happy hour' on Saturdays), and there is another pleasant lounge, with books and games. The bedrooms are simple but comfortable, clean, and well looked after. All the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. It was inexpensive too.

What a lovely Hotel. The staff made our Silver Wedding Anniversay so special. The breakfast was fresh and filling (scrambled eggs, meats, cheese and pastries etc). We were made to feel welcome from the moment we arrived. We stayed in the superior room (room 11), which overlooked the roof terrace, even though it was December it was lovely to sit out at night with a chilled glass of wine. The garden terrace was beautiful, the lights and seating were perfect (to share another bottle of wine- lol, it was our anniversary). The staff were so friendly, we really enjoyed our stay and have cherished memories, thank you Hotel Santa Maria, we hope to return.

Any chance the staff speaks a little Spanish? It would be helpful for a member of my group.
I would call and ask the question. They were very accommodating on every need we had. We loved this hotel and would definitely stay here again, you can't beat the location. The restaurants around the neighborhood were all fabulous. I asked them to find me a laundromat --it was right next door.
