Hotel San Francesco is a small & charming 3 star hotel located in Trastevere, the hippest and most lively area in the center of Rome. 24 rooms all set with Private Bathroom, Free WiFi, Minibar, Flat TV, Hairdryer, Telephone, Safe Box and Air Conditioning. One of the best Buffet Breakfast of Rome is served from 7:30 to 10:00 and the reception is open 24h. An amazing 360° view overlooking the Aventino hill and Trastevere is waiting for you at the top of the hotel. Our Rooftop bar La Terrazza will be open on warm seasons from 6 PM to 11:30 PM. An oasis of peace and relaxation where you can have a refreshing drink and chill out after a day sightseeing. All major tourist sights such as the Colosseum, the Vatican and Trevi Fountain can be easily reached by public transports but our suggestion is to wear comfortable shoes and enjoy the city by walking through the ancient narrow streets.

Nestled in the heart of Rome, Hotel San Francesco charms guests with its cozy European atmosphere and authenticity, despite some calls for modernization. Travelers consistently commend the hotel's cleanliness and friendly service, although the nighttime staff's attentiveness sometimes falls short. While opinions on value and amenities vary, with a few citing a need for more comforts, the hotel's pristine rooms and prime location in the vibrant Trastevere district are widely celebrated. The rooftop bar is a particular highlight, offering a picturesque perch from which to soak up the city.

I arrived fairly late into the evening but the welcome I received was brilliant. You’d probably never notice this hotel from the outside since it’s fairly subtle, but walking into the lobby restaurant / bar area gives great first impressions. There’s only a single reception desk in the rear corner, but given the small size of the hotel there was never a need to wait to see someone.

My room was a standard double on the first floor. The decor was somewhat minimalistic, with bare concrete effect walls and only one piece of artwork, but it was equally traditional in feel and cosy enough. The wardrobe had a good number of hangers for a few night’s stay and both sides of the bed had electric sockets with a bedside table. There was a unit housing a mini bar, containing a couple of bottles of water, but unfortunately these weren’t restocked during my stay. The TV was mounted on the wall and fairly small but the air-conditioning worked well. The bed was a good size and pretty firm, with the bedsheets and pillows being rather thin, however suitable for the climate at least.

The bathroom was a good size with a corner shower. This had strong power but I found the temperature fluctuated a bit during use, and the controls were extremely sensitive so getting it comfortable wasn’t always easy. The toiletries were provided in strange pouches which weren’t the easiest to use but the labelling suggested they were environmentally friendly, so excusable. There was a light above the mirror, no magnifying one though, but a hairdryer was provided. It was a pleasant and spacious area which was welcome.

Sleep quality in the room wasn’t too bad, however housekeeping was rather noisy in the morning (although they did proactively return later in the day if the room was occupied in the morning) and being on the first floor meant external noise could be heard clearly through the shutters. Saying that though, the location is great in the neighbourhood, with plenty of restaurants and bars just a short walk away, so that’s the trade off.

The roof top bar is a lovely retreat, serving both food and drink in a relaxing setting. While the building isn’t high enough to make it the best roof top in the city, the setting was really enjoyable with a good atmosphere. It was perhaps a shame it didn’t open until the early evening and shut just before midnight, else I’d have loved to use it more. I never did quite find out if the lobby bar was able to serve drinks outside of these hours, as I had a bit of a language barrier with the late night staff.

Overall it was a great hotel for a few nights in the city. The location suited my needs and the service was generally great. I’d consider it again if I didn’t need to be in the thick of the action to the east of the river.

My wife and I stayed here 8th -11th March.
Lovely small boutique hotel in a quiet area of Trastervere but only a short stroll to the bustling lanes and alleyways where the bars and restaurants are. All the main sights are within walking distance, we could walk to the Colloseum in 20 mins at a slow pace and the Pantheon is 20 mins in another direction. Worth walking as you see so much, though there is a tube stop about 10mins walk away - Pyramide.
We flew into Campiano, took a bus to the main train station (Termini) and then a 4 stop Metro ride to Pyramide. All very easy and cheap. Did the same for return journey.
Once at the hotel we had a warm welcome and were able to leave our bags as we had arrived early. We were given a map and various areas of interest were marked on it for us. All staff spoke English though we did try to speak as much Italian as possible.
Once back from sight seeing our room was great, average size for a hotel room with a nice large bathroom (shower only) and a huge comfortable bed.
Everything was clean and tidy and worked, internet was good, there was a safe and a fridge though this was not much use as once the keycard was removed it went off for the day. Maid came every day and shower gel etc was topped up each day which was very generous.
There was a choice of three breakfasts, continental, panckakes or American (cooked). Tried all three, all great and come with tea/coffee as you like it and orange juice. The staff at breakfast were friendly and the dining room at breakfat was never busy as the hotel is small.
There is a bar and dinner is available too though we did not eat in of an evening. Sadly the rooftop bar was closed but will be open again for the summer months.
Check out was easy and we were able to leave our bags at the hotel for the day and collect them later.
If there was one small criticism it was that the road noise (cars on cobbled streets) was a little loud as the windows were wooden so not totally sound proof. I had ear plugs with me so was not an issue but some may find noise annoying. Not all rooms face onto road so you could always ask for one overlooking inner courtyard.
Overall this was a great hotel that I can recommend, if I ever returned to Rome I would stay here as the location is perfect, rooms great and staff vey pleasant.

We stayed here for 4 nights and although I kept changing my dates the hotel was very patient with me.
My initial thought on the room was wow this is small, but it was more than adequate really and our bathroom was lovely with good pressure on the shower. We could close the shutters in the windows which kept the room cool without the aircon. The room was spotless and so lovely to have fresh sheets everyday.
Breakfast was basic due to COVID, a choice of toast and jam, yoghurt with granola and croissant , but the coffee was really good.
We tried the rooftop terrace the first night, it was lovely, we just had a drink and our waitress was lovely. We ate at the restaurant just outside the church next door, we had great food and a lovely evening.
If you turn left and left again when you exit the hotel you come to the bridge where you can go down a ramp where you can access the river walk up to the Vatican. I a really feel the heat and this walk was really cooler than walking the streets.

An affordable priced hotel with lovely staff, so close to the ‘buzzing’ area of Transevere but on a quiet street

I would recommend this hotel,a lovely stay.

Wonderful hotel, clean and incredibly helpful staff. Location is perfectly situated so the nights are quiet away from the Rome traffic but close enough to trastevere to be only 5 mins away from the night life. will be booking again for sure.

Just finished a 5 night stay at the Hotel and I am sad to leave. It has been a delightful base.for exploring Rome. While the Trastevere is a vibrant, busy neighborhood, the San Francesco is an oasis of calm and quiet.

Within decent walking distance of the major sites, it is also very close to the trams and buses on the bustling Via di Trastevere that will take you into the heart of tourist Rome.

Bonus, this foodie-centric neighborhood is filled with great little bars, pizza shops, and restaurants that buzz late into the Roman evening. Highly recommend the hotel's rooftop restaurant Jacopa for innovative Roman cuisine.

This hotel is clean tidy and basic. It is quite expensive for eg room service charge is €5 per order of food, which is the first time I came across this. The daytime receptionist is friendly and helpful however the night porter is aggressive and not friendly. The manager is Average daily cost is €200 to stay which is well above 3 star charges for hotels. Feels like a rip off. There is better options in trastivere

We chose Hotel San Francesco for its location in Trastavere, and were not disappointed. It is on the quieter side of Viale de Trastavere, close enough to all the action without being noisy and crowded. The hotel has a terrific restaurant, Jacopa, and we had a great meal there. Sadly , it was too late in the season for it to still be on the roof terrace, but was in a lovely room looking at the garden that is behind the hotel( which is also where breakfast is served.)
The room was definitely small and simple, but fine as we were out most of the time. The staff were very warm and helpful , a pleasure to interact with. All in all , we felt it was a terrific value , and wouldn't hesitate to stay there again.

The staff are amazing, so nice, so friendly and welcoming. The public areas are really nice, love the way they have designed the hotel, the bar, restaurant and rooftop terrace are all great. The rooms are very simple and could be improved but it was very clean and well looked after. Great location, 1-2 mins walk from the bustling area of trastevere where you are inundated with restaurants and bars but also really quiet. We loved the location.

This was the second hotel my wife and I stayed during our visit to Rome in January 2023. We stayed here three nights and chose it because we wanted a change of scenery and were keen to be located in the Trastevere area of Rome. The hotel is well located, though the tram was not running in the area when we were there. The rooftop was not open and the restaurant was also closed. Our room was clean, though small. The staff were friendly and the feeling around the hotel is welcoming. The WiFi is good and free. What was annoying was that there was no kettle or coffee/tea in the room, so every morning I had to go down to the bar and pay for two cups of tea (five Euro) and bring them back to the room. Which is pretty poor when you think that kettles are pretty standard in most hotels today. There was a fridge in the room and the heating / air conditioning worked well.

In Rome, Hotel San Francesco was attractively modernized in our 11-year absence. It is boutique style--less than 30 rooms. The rooms are clean, modern, and on the smallish side. But the bathrooms are relatively big and nice. The hotel is located a long block from the main street in Trastevere, although it could still be noisy from the car traffic at night. For about 10 Euros, you have a choice of two different breakfasts. One is pancakes, fruit with coffee and juice, or cereal, fruit with coffee and juice. No gift shop, but it has elevators!

Cannot remember exactly. Steps to enter the hotel. The roof terrace was only accessible by staircase. The room and bathroom we had were rather small. Not easy to manoeuvre in. But maybe large rooms/bathrooms available. However much I loved the hotel, I would not specifically recommend it for handicapped persons.
