My wife and I stayed here for three nights during our vacation in Rome and were very pleased with this establishment. The corner sweet was well adorned and the bathroom was beautifully modernized without loosing any classic European charm. The views from the corner sweet are simply breath-taking to see that St. Peter's Square is literally right across the street!...

Perfect location for Vatican trips and museums. Small room but nice. If you want to party or go wild, then this isn't the place for you. It was quiet and perfect for couples or older people. The most amazing views above Saint Peters Square.

I reiterate other views - the proximity to the Vatican is just across a very small seldom used road and you are right on St Peter's square. The view from the terrace was beautiful. Room was small but it had a huge bed - I think it was 2 beds pushed together. The bed linen was good quality and the...

Very nice. Rooftop bar is the best. Very relaxing and excellent service. Great views of Vatican City. The room was a little cramped for a family of four, but was manageable. Front desk was very helpful, we had a very early morning departure and they arranged taxi and something to take with us for breakfast.

We found this hotel to be extremely good value, staff were friendly and always on hand to help with reserving tables. The location is magnificent, admittedly it is a walk to other destinations across the city. However, don't let this deter you, you get to see some beautiful neighbourhoods and there are plenty of espresso stops along the way. Impeccably...

We stayed here for four nights in July. The weather was very hot but room was comfortable with ac. We had the junior suite facing St Peters. It's a good size room with king bed and couch and desk and dresser and table and two chairs-very comfortable with traditional decor. The bathroom was a good size. The people on the staff...

We stayed at the Residenza Paolo VI from Friday to Monday in February. The hotel is about a ten minute walk from the closest metro station, and was easy to find. The proximity to St Peters Square means you should never get lost! The hotel is situated on the 3rd floor of an old building, but a concierge met us...

this hotel is literally on st.peters square, so less than 100 steps from basilica. I stayed here with my disabled mum and the staff couldn't have been any more helpful. The views from the terrace were spectacular and so close for the popes blessing. Food was lovely in the terrace restaurant and breakfast was lovely. Spotlessly clean, and well presented...

I can't rate this hotel highly enough . It is in a perfect location for the Vatican. The staff were very helpful and the breakfast was superb. Some of the smaller rooms are basic but all very clean, peaceful and perfect for our needs. The jewel in the crown was the roof terrace with amazing views of St Peters Basilica....

We chose the hotel because of its proximity to St Peter's and it did not disappoint. The rooms are small but being this is a former monastery was not a negative feature. The rooftop terrace with spectacular views of St Peter's is well worth it. Daily breakfast features cereals, scrambled eggs, fresh fruit, pastries, juices and coffee. The terrace is...

Staying in Vatican / Borgo

Neighbourhood Profile
Vatican / Borgo
Frocked priests, colorful Swiss Guards, insistent souvenir shop owners, flag-waving tour guides, and pilgrims from around the world. This is the Vatican and Borgo, Rome's most recognized neighbourhood which acts as Vatican City's front yard. Aside from the souvenir boutiques and a few food spots, the only business conducted here is papal. In the daytime, the tiny medieval sector bustles with holy activity, as visitors vie for elbow room, or stand in line for a visit. Once the sun sets, the neighbourhood is transformed into a quiet and picturesque hamlet.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Residenza Paolo VI, established on the premises of an Augustinian Monastery, was inaugurated at the beginning of the Holy Year 2000. The genius loci and the charm of tradition, still alive in its ancient walls, make this property your "private" haven in Rome, far away from chaos, in the pulsing heart of the Eternal City. Rome has many hotels, but only one of them is located directly on St. Peter's Square (Vatican): Residenza Paolo VI, the ideal place for those wishing to stay in the heart of Christendom, close to St. Peter's Basilica, the Vatican Grottoes, the Necropolis, St Peter's and Saint John Paul II's tombs, the Vatican Gardens and St. Angel's Castle. Walking along the Vatican Wall, it's easy to reach the Vatican Museums and visit the famous Sistine Chapel. Furthermore, some of our rooms offer special view of the Holy Office or of the internal courtyard of the ancient monastery or even of St. Peter's Dome. From our magnificent Terrace it is possible to admire up close St. Peter's Basilica and the Apostolic Palace, exactly where the Holy Father Pope Francis appears to bless the faithful and to recite the Sunday Angelus. ... more   less
