The hotel would book a local taxi on your behalf and you pay the driver, so there is no advantage in doing this. Get your own taxi at the station. It will be quicker and cost no more than via the hotel. Make sure it is a 'proper' taxi, not a cowboy. Once in Rome, walk or use the bus. It's the best way to 'do' Rome. Enjoy!
