This is a late review, I stayed here last 2010. I was told, not to expect high European standards when it comes to hostels in Rome…it’s expensive for it’s price for the room and service you are getting, so just be warned and not so fussy about it. The hostel is close Termini Train Station. Exit at Marsala then go...

Its not the nicest place, but the location really is great. If you're looking for a hotel to spend time and relax in, go somewhere else. But if you want to spend your day seeing the countless sites in Rome and have a cheap place to crash, this is an okay place.

The first thing I noticed about this place was that it had no A/C. When you're in Rome during the middle of July this is a very big deal. Just so you all know this was my first stay in a hostel so maybe I had too many expectations. Check in went smooth with the exception of the unadvertised 10...

Great quality for what you pay. I have stayed in 4 hostels in Rome and this one was by far the best. We had a very nice double room with a bathroom and AC which was modern, clean and comfortable. Towels and soap were provided. They also have breakfast downstairs for 3 euro which was pretty good compared to other...

I was here for 3 nights... Location of the hostel is just walking distance from Roma Termini... check in is only at 15:00... so if you land up early, you can keep your bags in common luggage room and come back at or after 15:00...even though you book Male dorm, you might end up in Mix dorm...power points are available...

We stayed just one night at this hostel (thank god) because the original hotel we booked had problems with the bathroom and they sent us to this hostel. The place is located on the second floor of an old building and there’s no elevator. The people of the reception were not nice at all and they payed little attention to...

The most important thing to point to about this hostel is that it has BED BUGS! When we spoke to the staff about it, they said that they knew about the bed bugs, because they've had infestations before. Despite claims that the hostel has taken many steps to eradicate the pests, it seems that these have all failed, because my...

We booked a double room with own bathroom for 100 Euros/night. The mattress was of very poor quality: we could feel the metal underneath the minute we lay down! The bathroom stank of humidity and mould and although the facilities were designer-style they were not very clean and looked pretty run down. The water pressure in the shower was so...

I would highly recommend this hostel to anyone visiting Rome. Although the location is great (just a stone’s throw from termini station) the best thing about M & J Hostel are the staff. They are so welcoming and genuinely helpful and friendly - they really made us feel at home and provided us with so many tips and ideas to...

Staying in Esquilino

Neighbourhood Profile
Esquilino
Old school vibe from the very beginning is the only way to describe the Esquilino neighbourhood. The Esquilino takes pride in being one of the oldest areas in Rome for its key location on one of the city’s famous seven hills. From an ancient neighbourhood to its modern incarnation as a multicultural hub, Esquilino always has something going on—polyglot vendors debate street artists while kids play pick-up basketball games. Look around you: this area isn’t like the historic centre. Liberty architecture, large piazzas, and long boulevards mix with archaic arches, secret side alleys, and beautiful churches like Santa Maria Maggiore.
