Domus Liberius is celebrated for its prime central location, enabling guests to effortlessly explore Rome's attractions on foot, which is a consistent highlight in traveler feedback. The hotel's rooms are generally described as spacious and comfortable, but some guests have pointed out concerns regarding noise, outdated decor, and a lack of natural light.
While opinions on the value proposition are mixed, with some discrepancies noted in transport costs and breakfast charges, the service at Domus Liberius is frequently lauded for its attentiveness and efficiency, particularly the use of WhatsApp for communication. The atmosphere strikes a balance between modern flair and historic elegance, creating a welcoming vibe that guests enjoy, even though a few have suggested improvements in amenities and cleanliness.

The good and the bad, stayed here 11/12/24 to 11/19/24, the location is premium. The room was clean with high ceilings and a window. This was our first time in Italy, we spent a few nights in Rome and a few in Florence. The location is prime for going out and seeing all the sights. They did have a wine bottle opener in the common area which was helpful. They also have a 24/7 whatsapp for questions and help which was helpful. They offer a breakfast voucher but we always left early to start the daily so we never got one. The office hours are 10am to 2pm. The things i didn't like, the water pressure was low but that might just be an Italy thing. They provide two tiny bottles of shampoo/body wash, it is not enough. liked the bed, firm my woman did not. So that is a toss up. I also found it interesting that the hotel info on Expedia said Transportation from airport to hotel could be arranged for $55.00 but in the WhatsApp I was quoted $75.00. Not sure where the typo or inflation changed the cost. We just used the train from the airport cost $33.00 and the hotel is conveniently located 4 blocks away. The entrance to the hotel is like finding Waldo. I will put a picture for others who might get lost like me, the signage is small.

We stayed at Domus Liberius for four days and everything was perfect. The location is central, ideal for visiting Rome on foot, with the Colosseum and Trevi Fountain just a few minutes walk away.
Our room was cozy, spotless and with a breathtaking view of Santa Maria Maggiore. A heartfelt thanks to Andrea and his staff, always available and ready to meet every request with a smile.
I highly recommend this property to those seeking comfort, courtesy and an excellent base for exploring the eternal city. We will definitely be back!

We stayed at this hotel 10 years ago when we got engaged in Rome. Now we came back, almost on the same date, to spend a night in the Eternal City before heading off on a cruise. The hotel has been renovated since our last visit, and the rooms are spacious and comfortable, probably larger than what you’d find at an average downtown hotel in a big city. The reception is staffed until 1:00 PM, but if you check in later, there’s a self-service option that is well explained in the information you receive beforehand.
We checked in before 1:00 PM and were assisted by a super friendly receptionist who also gave us a map showing the distance to the main attractions nearby.
The hotel is less than a 10-minute walk from Roma Termini, so it’s very easy to get here from the airport: just take the airport express train and walk to the hotel. No need for a taxi, which you shouldn’t use unless you have a desire to experience true death-defying fear.

My wife and I stayed recently and we had an average experience. Domus Liberius is an incredibly convenient location, just a 5-10 minute walk from the main train station. This makes it an ideal base for travellers arriving by train. The surrounding area is rich with dining options, with plenty of nice restaurants and cafes within a 15-minute walking radius. However, be wary of the numerous tourist traps nearby. There are also two or three very good supermarkets close by, including one directly downstairs, which is very handy for picking up essentials.
One significant drawback is the access to the hotel. Navigating through multiple doors with a key fob can be quite a hassle, especially since some doors close automatically if you're not quick enough. The hotel is located on the third floor and, while there is a lift, it tends to run slowly.
Communication with the owners through WhatsApp was okay both before and during our stay, and they were very helpful. However, the hotel operates more like bedsit rooms on a shared floor, with no 24-hour reception or concierge service. This means that if you need extra items like towels or toilet paper, you’ll have to wait until the next day for staff to be available.
The facilities in the room are quite basic. For instance, there is no kettle in the room, only a shared one in the foyer, along with some teabags and a coffee machine. However, no milk is provided, which limits your ability to make a good tea or coffee.
The rooms themselves are showing signs of wear and tear. The bathrooms, in particular, could use a deep clean and a reseal of the showers, as there is some mould in the fixtures and fittings. On one occasion, we heard a strange scuffling noise in our room, which resembled a mouse or a rat. We reported it, and thankfully did not hear it again the following day. The rooms are also very cold and there isn't any clear system or description of how to heat or cool the rooms.
The rooms feature high ceilings and small windows, which means they don’t get much natural light. While the view of the nearby church is beautiful, you do get the usual road noise associated with city locations.
Overall, it's a very basic hotel, and considering the price paid compared to other nearby hotels, it feels a bit overpriced. There wasn’t anything particularly exceptional about our stay that would lead us to choose this hotel again over the competition. There are several areas that could be improved, such as the finishing sealant of the bathrooms and better access to staff.
Our stay was average, and we hope the management takes steps to enhance the guest experience in the future.

We stayed for a weekend and everything was perfect! The staff was amazing, always friendly and ready to help us, both to organize our movements and to suggest great restaurants in the area especially Jasmine. The room was spacious, bright and tastefully decorated, while the central location allowed us to explore Rome comfortably on foot. Thanks to all the staff for making our holiday special!

1. The room condition was acceptable, but there were many hairs, particularly in the bathroom, left behind by previous guests. 2. The location was excellent, right next to the Santa Maria Maggiore Cathedral. 3. The check-in process was somewhat complicated as the front desk was only open until around 1:30 PM, which I found unusual. I had to handle the check-in online and only received the information on the day of arrival. However, the staff were very friendly. 4. The free coffee area in the hotel was cozy and enjoyable. 5. Room cleaning service was incomplete, as items like toilet paper and shower gel were not replenished. 6. The soundproofing in the room was very poor, and I could hear everything from the neighboring room, which was quite uncomfortable.
Overall, the stay had some positives but could improve on cleanliness, service, and soundproofing.

We were one couple in a party of 5 couples, each couple having their own room. We came to Rome to see the sites as well as take in an international rugby match. Each room at the hotel was spacious and clean with all the amenities required to enjoy our stay. The beds were especially comfortable, with all 10 of us enjoying a full night sleep across each night of our stay. The communal kitchen area was an added bonus for having a coffee or drink before embarking on exploring Rome each day. The hotel is less than 10 mins walk from the main train station and as we came in from Naples it made for a great location. Overall we really enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend and hopefully come back in the future.

This place was such a great value. The price was very affordable considering what is typical for rooms in Rome. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. They have a nice lobby area once up on the third floor. It was self check in. The hotel communicated well ahead of check in with the process. They gave a code to use on the exterior door to allow access inside the building. Once in the building the hotel is on the 3rd floor. There was an elevator. We then used a different electronic key pad to accces the hotel room area. They had left an electronic key for us to use after our initial check in. We then stopped at the reception area the next morning to finish check in and pay our bill. Breakfast is not included. You can pay for breakfast at the hotel and they give you a voucher for breakfast at a local cafe. We really enjoyed our multiple nights here and would absolutely stay here again.

Response from Andrea Scala, Owner at Domus Liberius
Location is fantastic, i walked max 10 mins from the train station to the hotel, very good location and close to enough to the Colusium.
Nice room, it's in an old building so somethings are tight and the wood floors creaked in the room, not a bad thing, just somthing to note. The heater was needed to be on at night as it got very chilly, that was a bit noisy but not the end of the world.
Again, it's in an older building, you can hear people moving in the hallway while.in the roof, but that never woke us up.
The view facing the church was very nice, bed and pillows were good.
Getting in at night, I had a little trouble with one of the keypads but managed it, told them about it in the morning and they said they would look at it, not an issue.
The only issue I had here was not with the room or hotel but with getting a taxi. I asked the front desk to order a taxi for the morning to go to the airport in the morning, they wanted to give me the information through what's app, which is good so that there is no misunderstanding, but the taxi service they partner with wanted to charge 70 euros for the trip, I disagreed with this cost since Rome has a policy for all taxis to and from the airport to the middle of the city will only be 55 euros. So I did not get help from the hotel on this which is why I only gave this experience 4/5.
Luckily taxis are literally lining up infront of the hotel as they get dispatched, they literally have a sign on the door telling you that the ride to the specific airport is 55 euros so I took this option.
All in all, nice hotel in an old building (99.9% of the buildings in Rome are old) fantastic location.

Dear Jandrer, Thank you for your thoughtful review and for sharing your experience. We’re delighted to hear you appreciated the fantastic location and your comfortable room with a great view of Santa Maria Maggiore. It’s always our goal to provide a memorable stay, and your feedback helps us improve further. Regarding the taxi situation, we’re sorry for any inconvenience caused. While we partner with a private transfer service for added reliability and convenience, we understand the preference for standard taxi rates, which are indeed regulated for airport trips. It’s great to hear that you could find a taxi easily right in front of the building. We hope to welcome you back in the future for an even better experience. Thank you again for staying with us and for your valuable insights! Warm regards, Andrea – Manager

Location is great. 5 minute walk to the station, about 15 to Colosseum and 20 to Trevi. Lots of local restaurants, cafes, and shops nearby. Across the road is a larger supermarket for any extras you may need or want. The hotel is more of a boutique style hotel. It's not your traditional one hall with rooms off either side. Our room was a superior triple. The room overlooked the inside courtyard area, so it was pretty quiet. Our friends had a triple room that faced the road and said the noise level wasn't too bad as the windows are pretty thick. The room was clean. The bed was a bit firm, but that's a personal issue. The bathroom was spacious. It did have a small drainage issue in the shower but nothing to ruin our stay. We did not find the check-in/check out process odd or difficult, maybe because we've stayed in similar situations in other countries. I felt security was not an issue as you do have to enter your code at almost all the entries during off hours. Finding the main entrance could be difficult if you don't look at the pictures or even try to Google the street view. It's pretty clear where it is when you take a little extra time to look at exactly where you will be staying. I saw a comment about how small the wood entrance is, if you need it larger, open it from the inside, the whole door will open. As far as walking from the station with suitcases, again, a bit of research wouldn't hurt. It's Rome, the streets are cobbled and uneven. Not the hotels fault. We absolutely loved our stay there, the uniqueness, the location, the sitting areas for chilling with a glass of wine and our friends after walking 10 miles! The coffee bar with espresso machine and kettle for morning drinks. NOTE: There are bottle openers at the coffee bar, so don't buy another one for the bottle of wine!
