Booked a room at Salus for two of my friends and I because it was the cheapest, most-centrally located hotel in Rome. The hotel was a joke, even for the price. When we walked in, we were "greeted" by a grumpy receptionist lady and her dog. We were given directions to our room and walked ourselves there, through a corridor...

I can't believe the Hotel Salus is still in business. As a college student, en route to my final destination of Oxford, I stayed here with a girlfriend in 1971, actually spent New Year's here. Even back in the day, this was a low rent hotel, recommended by Frommer's on $5 a day- yes sad to say a student could...

We were redirected by "The place in Rome" that has cancelled our booking and took us to Salus and had no choice. It looks like they get their customers this way. The place is terrible. that no one looks after for very long time. Bed was a folding one, very uncomfortable with a hump in the middle. No toilet paper,...

First of all, hostel supposed to have 24hrs reception but hadn't! We had unpleasant situations with the staff because somebody had to wake up in the middle of night and open the doors for us...Rooms are very poor, I'd say basic but specious and clean, have to admin that. Bathroom is a disaster! Shower almost didn't work and flush in...

This was the first stop on a school trip to italy. I had been on a school trip to italy & france about 4 months prior to my stay at Salus, so I was fully aware that we wouldn't exactly be staying in 4 star property. However, hotel Salus was terrible! Not a single light in my room worked and...

Luckily enough I had to stay only one night in this horrible hotel. Though the location is very convenient (close to Termini train station), it is really not worth going here. The hotel is very dirty and the room I stayed in was in very poor conditions.

Staying in Esquilino

Neighbourhood Profile
Esquilino
Old school vibe from the very beginning is the only way to describe the Esquilino neighbourhood. The Esquilino takes pride in being one of the oldest areas in Rome for its key location on one of the city’s famous seven hills. From an ancient neighbourhood to its modern incarnation as a multicultural hub, Esquilino always has something going on—polyglot vendors debate street artists while kids play pick-up basketball games. Look around you: this area isn’t like the historic centre. Liberty architecture, large piazzas, and long boulevards mix with archaic arches, secret side alleys, and beautiful churches like Santa Maria Maggiore.
