The best kept secret atThe Secret Garden, was indeed, the garden. I suspect the 8 potted plants near the fountain constituted a garden. We attempted to drift off to sleep after a very long trip and were lullabied by wafting fumes of sewage smell enveloping our room, combined with a suspicially infectious moldy odor. Exhaustion overcame us and we slept...

That was the worst place I've been to so far. The smelly wardrobe in the room, blocked up toilet- such a nuisance!, wet, smelly, unchanged towels, poor breakfast- the worst coffee ever, the lack of mineral water, unfresh butter, dirt all around, dirty cutlery, self washing-up and much more other inconvenience!!!! If you want to have a lot of amazing...

We booked 2 rooms in the Secret Garden months in advance and were impressed with the website description, price and location (close to the station and main sites). However, all was not as it seemed. First of all, they double booked us, expecting us to accept 1 room in the Secret Garden and one in the Ciak Hostel (which is...

I'll get the good points out of the way first. Our room (2) was a nice size and the bed was big and comfortable, something you'll appreciate after a long day walking around Rome. The shower was nice and powerful and the ceiling fan provided a nice breeze to combat the stifling heat. There is also free wi-fi in the...

I had actually booked Ciak Hostel, which is just around the corner, but for whatever reason was moved to Secret Garden. Worked out quite well, it is (marginally) closer to Termini and we also had a jacuzzi in our bathroom, we had a four post bed as well! It can be quite noisy, and not even in a way that...

Our rooms were in the basement which meant we has access to the garden at the back which was nice but the rooms spelt damp and the floor was wet. Take earplugs. There was nothing for breakfast other than a few cornflakes and stale biscuits. Better to go to a cafe, frankly. The location is good if you're travelling to/from...

I arrived on a Friday afternoon, and the guy who help me check-in was very kind and helpful. I think it is important to mention that this is definitely not a hotel, it is a private house, so there is no 24 hour reception available, however the guy said that if I needed anything to call and he would be...

Brilliant hotel for what we paid. it's one of the cheaper hotels we found and it had a good location and our room was lovely - very clean, roomy, and we even had our own private little garden out the back! The guy who runs the hotel was really helpful, provided us with maps and tons of information, recommendations and...

I stayed at The Secret Garden in the single room (Room #1) for 5 nights in July and found the place to be perfectly adaquate for my needs. My room had a mini-fridge, a kettle to boil water, ceiling fan, comfortable bed, TV, safe, cabinet, decent private bath...everything I needed. The place is located only maybe 5-to-10 minutes walking distance...

Close to the centre, bargain price, lovely little room with character, great A/C, decent bathroom, good size.... what more could you want!! There is a 'slight' issue with the fact there is no reception... but that's cool - just phone them! We arrived early... rang, waited ten minutes and our charming host arrived... having spoken to his charming mother. Lovely...

Staying in Esquilino

Neighbourhood Profile
Esquilino
Old school vibe from the very beginning is the only way to describe the Esquilino neighbourhood. The Esquilino takes pride in being one of the oldest areas in Rome for its key location on one of the city’s famous seven hills. From an ancient neighbourhood to its modern incarnation as a multicultural hub, Esquilino always has something going on—polyglot vendors debate street artists while kids play pick-up basketball games. Look around you: this area isn’t like the historic centre. Liberty architecture, large piazzas, and long boulevards mix with archaic arches, secret side alleys, and beautiful churches like Santa Maria Maggiore.
