Good quality for the price we payed. Good location, close to termini station. Don't expect any luxury but the room we shared was clean as well as the bathroom. The staff did their job but were not particularly friendly. The kitchen does not offer the possibility to cook but overall it was a good stay.

We stayed in Hotel il Papavero for three nights and the first impression was: it's okay. Hotel is near metro station, but you don't need to use it, you can walk through Rome, believe it. So, what is not to like: first sheets stink, just like the toillete in which you don't have space to put your towels, we took...

We stayed on the fourth floor with an airy room and a big double bed! My sister and I stayed for two nights and were very impressed! Our room was clean and lovingly decorated with an ensuite to match! The towels were changed and the room was cleaned daily, the reception staff were also very attentive to our needs. The...

My sister and I stayed here while backpacking through Europe. My only complaint is that in 95 degree weather you are only equipped with a small fan that barely rotates. Other than that the location was great, only two stops and a few blocks from the main terminal in Rome. The receptionists are very friendly and helpful. The wifi is...

I stayed at Papaya. 4 rooms, each has 4 beds (double-deck) table, chair and lockers. It has WiFi. 3 bathrooms. A kitchen in which you have sofa two computers(but only one has Internet access), kitchen table, two electric kettles, microwave, toaster, sink, cupboards, fridge, electric fan. The stay was pretty enjoyable. Every day a young lady comes to tidy up the...

Great little hostel. Very secure. Staff were so welcoming and friendly. Very central. 10 min walk from station and with a 30 min walk in any direction you will see some amazing sights, museums, church's. Also about 2 blocks away is a bar called yellow bar which is pretty cool. They had a cranberries impersonation band the night I was...

When we first arrived in Rome we were surprised at the high price of hostels. We searched Hostelworld's website thoroughly and found a bunch beside each other near the central train station. I went into about 10 of them for comparison. Papavero was the best by far. It was the cheapest, the cleanest and had the friendliest staff. It's reception...

Literally a 10 minute walk from central station. This place is very clean and tidy with a bed and desk with ensuite (in the room we chose). The check was around the corner from the room which wasn't an issue as it is very easy to find. Extremely friendly staff are on hand at reception 24/7 for any questions or...

On arrival the receptionist was very helpful and showed us to our room, this was nice, comfortable and clean. The bed was solid and wide, the bathroom facilities were great and could not fault the room which was on the third floor and accessed by stairs and a small lift.

Staying in Esquilino

Neighbourhood Profile
Esquilino
Old school vibe from the very beginning is the only way to describe the Esquilino neighbourhood. The Esquilino takes pride in being one of the oldest areas in Rome for its key location on one of the city’s famous seven hills. From an ancient neighbourhood to its modern incarnation as a multicultural hub, Esquilino always has something going on—polyglot vendors debate street artists while kids play pick-up basketball games. Look around you: this area isn’t like the historic centre. Liberty architecture, large piazzas, and long boulevards mix with archaic arches, secret side alleys, and beautiful churches like Santa Maria Maggiore.
