I can only reinforce so many other reviews. This hotel is small and nice enought o be considered cute. It's secluded enough to need a good street map to find it. ten to fifteen minutes walk from the centre-but that's a walk through mediaeval streets...More
This delightful hotel is well located in a quiet street close to the old city walls. Our bedroom was spacious and comfortable and well set out with a hairdryer, a mini-bar and proper wooden clothes hangers - a sign that the the owners have thought...More
Quietly placed on the southern edge of the city this small hotel is a good base from which to explore on foot. We had a superior room with a small covered balcony which even in November proved a pleasant spot to be with a glass...More
My wife and I recently enjoyed a very enjoyable stay at this gem of a hotel in Bologna. The rooms were perfect, as were the breakfasts through the leafy courtyard gardens. The staff must have been some of the friendliest and most helpful we've ever...More

If you don't have heavy luggage it is also possible to walk, crossing the center it takes 35 minutes. By taxi it takes around 10 minutes for 10/12,00 euro.

No, the Porta San Mamolo is not just in the center; it is just at the edge of where the old city wall passed (that's why it is called "Porta" (Gate)). To get to the Piazza Maggiore, you have to walk four long blocks. The area is very nice, however, and there is a good restaurant at the corner called Sangiovese.

We had a hire car to get to the hotel and then walked everywhere. There is a bus map at people.reed.edu/~reyn/BolognaMap.pdf which is a bit complicated but the A bus looks like it goes within a few 100 yards of the hotel.
