The antique building located on a peak about 300m above the sea and underneath the ruin of the "Castle d'Appio" is a 13th century garrison and enjoys a marvellous view of the Italian "Flower Riviera" and the French "CĂ´te d'AzurUnder the old castle built by Roman Consul Appio Claudio in 185 B.C., in 1967 the hotel and restaurant "La Riserva di Castel d'Appio" was erected on the ruins of the old building which belonged to the same family who today is still the owner and manager of the hotel facility.A refined lounge for the winter restaurant, a flowered terrace along the swimming-pool for dinners in the candlelight, highly recommended is our fish specialities from the best traditional and international dishes. The Genoese, in the Xlll century, rediscovered the position of the castle, rising steeply 300m out of the sea, and almost totally rebuilt it. From the restaurant and the rooms you can enjoy the same magnificent view. The hotel is located between the "Riviera dei Fiori" and the "CĂ´te d'Azur", 18 Km away from both Sanremo and Monte Carlo. To reach it you have to leave the A10 highway at Ventimiglia exit and run 1/2 mile toward the town. Then, after you cross a bridge on the Roya river, you have to turn right toward France. After 400 mt, at the traffic light, turn right and go on for 4 Km.

Very relaxing quiet location, bright spacious large rooms overlooking the sea or garden. Well-kept garden with various types of trees each with its own label with gender, origin and year in which it was planted.
Friendly staff, available for any tourist request or services, and competent.
Level restaurant with fish and not, great really, yesterday we celebrated the 50th birthday of my partner, they were wonderful.
Large pool, spotless with sunbeds and umbrellas but also boards to float in the water, trampoline and slides.
The view, without words, you can see the coast from Venturina to Monte Carlo and with this view you have breakfast every morning.
The style is a bit '80s but from a feeling of being suspended in time.
Find historical furniture accessories and books in all languages.
For me a place to come back.

My wife and I just stayed at La Riserva in Ventimiglia, Italy and we can’t say enough about how gorgeous the view is and how accommodating the staff was. Both are amazing and well worth it. I think every room has an incredible view of the Mediterranean Sea you will never forget. This friendly, family owned and operated hotel is run beautifully and efficiently. The owner came and picked us up and dropped us off in town more than once because taxi service was limited because of some events going on. This isn’t part of the booking but just him being kind so we didn’t have to wait. We took the train from Nice, France to Ventimiglia and then took a taxi back to Nice. I’d suggest doing that the other way around so you can be taken directly to the property after traveling. Getting taxis can be challenging at certain times. The train was easy and very cheap. Under $10 per person that took around and hour from Nice airport. I paid online. You have to take your luggage about a block from airport to catch train. Again, I would take a car next time to avoid that and the transfer in Ventimiglia. Please stay at this property! We had a very nice suite with 3 outdoor terraces you could sit and drink their delicious cappuccino! The restaurant is very nice and delicious also with that amazing view. They even accommodated our vegetarian diet by adding items to the menu for us the second night we ate there because they remembered. Breakfast is included and delicious. Bravo! Highly recommend. Grazie!

The view from up there is breathtaking and definitely worth a trip.
The terrace with this view is beautiful.
We had 2 rooms with a connecting door, which we really liked and was very helpful.
One of the waiters with his grim look was sensational, straight out of a movie. We really enjoyed it.
An original like something out of a novel.
The dinner and breakfast were plentiful and delicious.

Didn't like it · The drive to the hotel is extremely special and challenging. Very narrow streets and even narrower bends. It can be very challenging with oncoming traffic. No picnic with 400kg motorbikes.
The drink prices were very high; you should check beforehand to avoid any surprises in the morning.

A delightful hotel with 8 rooms in the style of the 1930s.
The view is simply gigantic due to the location on top of the mountain. Very nice hotel manager and great service in the restaurant.
The journey there is a bit adventurous, but the view of the Cote d'Azur makes up for everything.

We have been here a few times over the past 10 years and we’re very disappointed. The food has gone down hill and so has the service and property. It is clear they are not re-investing their money to maintain a nice quality. The beds are very hard, staff was not very friendly except for the owner and his daughter. The main things that would bring us back for 1 night would be the spectacular view and the pool is nice.

The road to the hotel is long. The view is beautiful. Great calm. The room is clean but unfortunate that the windows have stains and the walls have traces of moisture. Modern and perfectly functional bathroom.
The painting of the windows should be redone.
The hotel has an outdated charm.
Restaurant of a certain standard. Full and hearty lunch.
Professional and pleasant service.
Possibility to book directly on the hotel website with cancellation possible until the day before arrival.
We will return

I’m currently dreaming of holidays after lockdown, and if there’s one place I’d like to go back to, it’s this hotel . It’s like staying in an Agatha Christie novel ( in terms of old fashioned charm and understated luxury) and the service and views are truly exceptional. The rooms aren’t huge, and it’s a little faded in places, but it’s like somewhere I’ve dreamt of but rarely managed to find.
As many have pointed out , the drive isn’t easy- I’ve had much worse in terms of sheer drops , but it’s quite hard work and a series of blind corners where you hope someone isn’t coming in the opposite direction, and our hire car overheated by the time it got to the top. However, don’t let this put you off( just take any supplies with you as you won’t be nipping out to the shops), as it really is worth it when you get there. Having said that, Ventimiglia old time is surprisingly nice . Not at all touristy but definitely worth an evening stroll.
Overall, the hotel is a really special place , as long as you like somewhere which is unique, a bit quirky and old fashioned in a good way.

It was a lovely experience. Hotel and location is outstanding, it was definitely worth going up that frightening "road" and enjoy the wonderful view on the terrasse with a glass of Spumante.
The staff was highly professional, friendly and always had an eye for the detail. Rooms were good, clean and equipped with all amenities you need. A small (very small) minor was the size of the bathroom. But overall I highly recommend this place and when I am in the region, I will definitely book again a room there.

Very well preserved hotel from the 60s!!! Don't expect a room without the charm of an ibis, this is Italy as I see it, I feel like I'm on vacation with my grandparents ;-)
With a magnificent welcome and an incredible view.
A timeless moment, magnificent to unwind and rest.
I especially wanted to thank Emilio for his welcome and his availability at breakfast, it is rare to find people as kind as him. Thanks again Emilio.

The hotel does have a shuttle but I cannot remember how frequently it operates. The hotel owner is very accommodating so I would suggest you ask him directly. If not, a taxi fare won't break the bank. Whitebeard83
