Detailed Reviews
We enjoyed out stay and would recommend. The view is 5 star, location is 5 star. We enjoyed the staff at the front desk, good breakfast each day. We had a deluxe room, it was spotless and I well thought out, light when you opened the closet, adequate hooks and shelf space in the bathroom but small by American standards. Beds comfortable and water hot.
Adjoining restaurant welcomed a party of 8 when we arrived without a reservation and were friendly and welcoming.
The only issue I had was at check out. My husband checked us out. When I reviewed the receipts, The hotel had converted the euros to dollars before putting the charge through to the credit card. We paid a higher conversion rate than if the charge had gone through as euros and been converted by the credit card company. My husband did not remember being ask about this but also wasn't aware of the issue prior to our discussion. It was not enough money to dispute with the hotel but I want to give a heads up to future guests. Also, It may depend on your credit card policies. We get a good conversion rate with our credit card.
Our last trip to Bellagio we stayed at the Metropole and I enjoyed Hotel Du Lac more. The Metropole has been gutted and is being rebuild from the stone walls out. There is also a new 5 star hotel being built, I was told either a Four Seasons or a Ritz Carlton.

This hotel is located right at the water transportation boarding area for Bellagio. The rooms are nice with fairly basic amenities but the views from the fifth floor offer a nice side view of the lake. The location is fabulous for exploring Bellagio and the surrounding cities. We did learn that if you turn right out of the hotel there is a nice sloping walk up to the main shopping area of the city. There are limited places to buy sandwiches so load up on the excellent daily breakfast served from 7:30-10:00 each morning and the view from the dining room and upstairs bar are both beautiful.
Be sure to purchase return boat tickets at the time of your purchase to avoid the long afternoon lines.
Cab ride from the train station in Como runs around 140 -150 Euro but be sure the cab is authorized to operate inside the City unless you want to drag your luggage 50-100 meters. Also be sure to make lunch and dinner reservations as the wait can be extensive and we saw many turned away.
The hotel has a nice spa that is available for daily use along with messages.

The breakfast croissants were excellent, warm, fresh and not greasy, fruit cake was good, also provided hot milk for cereals. The location is just perfect for ferry rides, we could check if the ticket office was open during our breakfast and ticket lines short or long, and decided to purchase fast ferry boat tickets, very convenient. The bed was plush in our room, we preferred a bit firmer, there was also some noise above our room on 2nd floor, the sound insulation needs to be improved, the room was very clean and orderly arranged.

I can only review our room and our experience, but this hotel was the worst of our 2 week tour of Europe.
Hotel staff is very helpful and nice. 5 stars for staff, both at the front desk and the very cheerful housekeeper.
Breakfast is a disappointment, of the 6 hotels we stayed in, Hotel Du Lac was the most "lac-ing" for breakfast. Very weak offerings and identical day to day, some options not replenished and the warm food kept barely warm. After a couple of tries we just skipped the 'free' breakfast.
Our room was very small, the bathroom laughably small. When you have such a small bathroom, I think they should omit the additional bidet bowl. Install toilet with a bidet feature included and remove the bidet bowl. No kidding, one could sit on the toilet and use the sink to brush your teeth without any effort. Stupid small. The room itself was also very small, your average 2-3 star hotel in the US is twice the size of this room.
A/C and heat is turned off. This is a transitional season, I get it, but there is no air movement whatsoever in the room. Dead still. No fan, just still and stale air, especially when the day is warm. Open the window you say? Great idea! Except the window opens onto the alley which 1) magnifies the sounds of people yelling and carrying on until 2am as if they're actually drunk and in the bed with you and 2) ALL the cigarette smoke in Bellagio is gathered and forcefully blown into your window, you might as well sleep in a chimney. I don't fault the revelers or even the smokers (although yuck), I fault the hotel for shutting down their HVAC system so you have no options. Our last night there we got just a few hours of sleep, we were either too hot or had to open the window and the room was too loud and too smoky...pick your poison. Seems a little bit of a low-budget move to turn off the HVAC to save a few bucks when the guest are paying what they are to stay there.

We enjoyed Bellagio, and although the staff, location and views were top notch, too many other things were disappointing that we won't be back.

The glowing reviews for the Hotel du Lac are totally justified IMO after a lovely 3 day stay there last month. Specifics included a warm welcome at reception and a spotless room with 2 balconies with a partial lake view. As well, I had noted it was my wife's birthday the second day of our stay and we were delighted to find a bottle of prosecco in the room when we returned from wandering the town that day. Breakfasts were pleasant seated on the terrace overlooking the lake and ferry dock. Overall, for a very reasonable price in a crowded tourist destination, we found this to be a wonderful place to stay.

This hotel, perfectly located in a central location directly on the lake, has that personal touch with outstanding service that I have not experienced in years. All of the staff knew us by the second day, and the front desk helped us with everything from meal reservations, activity reservations, and travel arrangements. Even the serving staff were delightful.
The rooms were incredibly spacious with nice bathrooms (which always make a hotel feel special), and each of the 2 rooms my family had had an incredible view of the lake.
Each morning we lingered over breakfast, which was a reasonable buffet, because the room was nicely set up with views of the lake. On nice days you could sit outside to enjoy it.
We sometimes finished our evening with coffee, pastry, or drinks at the outdoor cafe.
I’d definitely stay here again. It was a pleasure to have such service, and the location could not be best.

Could not recommend a better hotel for a stay in Bellagio. We considered a Villa that was outside of the historic district which we thought may have been quieter but opted for the convenience of being closer to the Ferry and restaurants/shops. I am glad we did. The hotel is steps from the Ferry which allowed us to eat breakfast and leave for the ferry minutes before its departure (we purchased the tickets in advance). While the Ferry is steps from the hotel, we did not hear noise from the Ferry or from the street in our room which faced the lake/Ferry on the 3rd floor. Being close to the restaurants enabled us to easily go to and return from dinner without spending on taxis, which can get costly. As for the hotel, the rooms were nice sized, clean and the bed was extremely comfortable. The bathroom offered a rain shower, heated towels and was clean and virtually new. The room had desk space and plenty of outlets. A full breakfast of pastries, cereals, hot food (eggs/bacon), yogurt and fruit is offered daily with a wonderful coffee machine making any type of coffee you would like. It never hurts having a great view of the lake while enjoying your breakfast. As for the front desk, they were eager to assist with providing information, calling a taxi when needed and even making excellent dining suggestions. It is rare you cannot find a complaint about an accommodation but I was unable to find one. The price of the stay was reasonable and the accommodation excellent. It is not a large hotel like the Serbelloni in Bellagio with expansive gardens but I preferred the smaller hotel with the personal service. Would highly recommend.

First time at Hotel Du Lac and have nothing but praise for it. Superb location right opposite the ferry terminal booking office. Spotlessly clean and comfortable room - beds extremely comfortable and we were offered a choice of pillow - memory foam, hypoallergenic or feather. The TV in the room had BBC One and Two and a couple of other English channels which we appreciated. The staff were ALL amazing, professional but friendly and helpful. Buffet breakfast was superb with loads of choice. Lovely rooftop terrace with a bar open in the evening to watch the sun go down. During the day there were plenty of comfortable sun lounger/chairs if you just wanted to sit and read a book or gaze at the stunning lakeside, mountain views. The al fresco bar at the front of the hotel serves inexpensive cocktails and very well cooked delicious meals. Overall the hotel is exceptional value for money and the staff help make your stay memorable. Cannot fault it!

Stayed at the Hotel Du Lac for 3 nights and it was fabulous. We had a Prestige room with a balcony on the 4th floor overlooking the lake and it was stunning. It had a large comfortable king size bed and large shower. The hotel staff was friendly and courteous and Graziano At the front desk could not have been more helpful. Two of the days we were able to book the spa for an hour, which was never crowded and two nights we booked the rooftop bar to watch the sunset. The staff at the bar restaurant and especially. Brunella always made sure that she found a seat for us even when it is crowded. There is separate seating in the bar area that is for hotel guest only which was a big plus when it was very hot out and there was a long line to get into the restaurant, We also rented a parking spot which was a few blocks away but were able to pull up in front of the hotel and park for 20 minutes while we unloaded our luggage. However, just be aware that driving through the town to get to the hotel with the crowded street was not an easy task. As far as I’m concerned, this is a five star hotel all the way around.

We stayed at the Hotel Du Lac end of April beginning of May and it was a truly wonderful experience. We arrived on the ferry from Como (we had also arranged a transfer with the hotel for the return which with a flight to catch made the departure a lot less stressful). Our visit started with a lovely warm welcome from Reception and actually from the entire team throughout our stay, they will help you with whatever you need. We were shown to our room with an explanation of all the amenities the hotel has to offer. Our room was amazing with a large balcony with sun loungers, table and chairs and umbrella, perfect for people watching but most importantly the fantastic views. The room facilities were great, spacious with lots of storage and a UK socket which was a bonus. The bathroom (which can be annoying as there’s usually not enough light to put your make up on let alone brush your teeth) was fab, large, light and the shower was great. The rooftop bar is a must, I had read previous reviews about having to book or you were likely to be turned away so I emailed the hotel in advance and I’m so glad I did, it does get very busy. It wasn’t open for our entire stay due to the weather but we were told we could take drinks up there which you can get either from the restaurant outside or just take your own which is what we did. The breakfast as everyone has said is excellent, plenty of choice, something for everyone. The weather prevented us from sitting on the terrace for breakfast but the views are still wonderful, a lovely way to start the day. The ferry terminal is just across the road but we found our room quiet when the door was closed even when throngs of people were arriving. I would suggest getting your ferry tickets first thing as the queues can be pretty long and actually during breakfast we were able to keep an eye on this, its also best to book your return tickets at the same time (especially if you want the fast ferries) but we found that this wasn’t always possible depending on where you wanted to go. Definitely book your evening meals as queues do form and its the same for lunch, Bellagio, Menaggio and Varenna are extremely popular so its probably worth doing this as soon as you arrive then you can go and explore knowing that you’ve got somewhere to eat. The weather turned for our last two days so we got the ferry to Colico one day and Lecco the next, about 90 mins on the ferry, with enough time to have a quick look around, grab a drink then head back, great fun. Sorry this review is a bit long but I honestly couldn’t fault Hotel Du Lac, it stands proudly as you arrive and so it should. Enjoy.

We had 2 balconies so used those to sit in the sun. There is a lovely lake facing terrace which could be used during the day to sit (it becomes a bar in the late afternoon) but it’s not like a pool deck.
I would suggest you do some research, Milan Malpensa Airport has an express train to Milan Central. Then you can get train from Milan to Como, then ferry to Bellagio.
no, Bellagio is a small place, parking can be an issue. most people get to Bellagio by ferry. We took train to como, then ferry to Bellagio was a pleasant experience, took photos of those beautiful towns, houses along the way.
No need for a bus. Train from Milano Centrale to Varenna, then 15min ferry to Bellagio.
