I took a picture of this hotel 8 years ago passing through Bellagio and had always vowed to go back and stay in it and so glad we did. Our room on the 2nd floor (226) had a balcony overlooking the lake which had breathtaking views all across the lake and to the mountains beyond. Room was spacious, very comfortable and quiet. Air conditioning was quiet and worked well. Breakfast on the terrace right on the waters edge was a lovely way to start each day. Spent some time on the roof terrace which had even more spectacular views of the lake and the village. Staff were all very friendly and helpful. Perfect location (on the doorstep) for all the boats going to every part of the lake and for exploring Bellagio.

Water pressure in the shower wasnt great but its a very old hotel. Few more sun loungers on the terrace would have been good when it was busy.

Would thoroughly recommend!

We paid a small amount extra for a balcony and enjoyed it quite a bit. The balcony had room for 2 chairs and a small table so we sat to watch the ferries come and go and had a bit of wine. The hotel faces west but it was a bit hazy for full sunsets. I bet they are great at times. The room was adequate size and the shower was large and safe. The closet had extra pillows so we had 2 each. The TV had a couple of English news channels. The hotel staff was friendly and very conversant in English. The breakfast had eggs on request and several in our group got them.

The location is great since it’s situated at the center of Bellagio, view directly to the lake. The staff at reception are helpful. They can help you with any issues, also help you booking restaurants.
What is good for breakfast is the scenery of the lake. The room is quite comfortable. We have all we need for a stay. Ideal for a 3 night stay
Recommend.

Visited here based on a travel guide recommendation and was terribly disappointed. The great lakefront location, which turned out not only to be scenic but sweltering hot in the afternoon sun, did not compensate for the horrible food! The "pizza" was actually what is typically called "flatbread" and even that description is generous. The pizzas we ordered were delivered as half inch thick bread slabs with the thinnest possible layering of toppings. I ordered the prosciutto pizza and it was actually like deli ham with the blanket cheese possible. I tried to salvage my expenditure by scraping off the thin layer of meat and cheese and eating those but even that was such poor quality, I gave up. I also ordered a small salad and that was fine, no complaints there. We were seated by the railing nearest to the lake which was probably thought to be ideal but which actually became extremely hot as the sun set in the west. This was the worst meal we have had in Italy over the past 3 weeks and hope you will carefully consider before dining here.

We visited Bellagio in June of 2022 and stayed at the Hotel Metropole Bellagio. We found the hotel to be clean. The bathroom was modern. The location was ideal with beautiful views. That being said, the service level leaves a lot of room for improvement. Guest accommodation is not a priority with this hotel.
For example, we had planned a light lunch at the hotel restaurant that day we were leaving. Imagine our surprise when we entered the restaurant to learn it was closed for a private event. By the time we found out the hotel restaurant was closed, all of the nearby restaurants were also crowded to capacity. If the hotel had posted a courtesy notice in the morning to inform their guests of this closure, we would have planned differently, but they did not.
In addition, the hotel management has no system in place to safely store guest luggage. Most nice hotels offer this service as an accommodation to their guests. The better hotels usually have a dedicated space to secure the luggage and give a receipt for the bags one has left. This is NOT the case with Hotel Metropole. If one checks out and leaves luggage with the front desk, it is stored in a niche in the lobby covered with a curtain or behind the front desk. The staff do not know whose luggage belongs to who. Long story short, we left behind a suitcase as our luggage was stored in 2 different areas. We were not aware of this oversight until 45 minutes after we left. We had to make our own arrangements to retrieve the missing luggage and the Metropole Bellagio was of no help. The Marriott AC Milano was wonderful and helped us retrieve the bag. This was a stressful and very costly mistake. For this reason, we say buyer beware.
On a side note, Bellagio seems overwhelmed at the moment. Some shopkeepers were not friendly, almost rude. Boat captains were the same answering tourist questions with sarcastic comments. One restaurant took our reservation, and when we went for dinner, they had no table and claimed we had not made a reservation. (As it was our wedding anniversary, we definitely had made a reservation.) Hotel workers seemed tired and overworked. All in all, we were extremely disappointed with our stay in Bellagio and probably will not be returning. If you are making a choice between destinations, please take our comments to heart when making your travel plans.

Response from Info Metropole, General Manager at Hotel Metropole Bellagio
Responded Jul 14, 2022

Our room, booked through TUI, no 223 was unblelievably tiny. Whilst it did have a minuscule balcony and lake view the room was so small that there was only 300 mm around the bed. Sold to us as a double room only one one of us could use it at a time, the other having to retreat to the bathroom or balcony. Despite our protestations the staff said that it was the only room available and was what TUI had contracted for. In truth it could only accommodate one person.

My wife and I visited 19 May for 3 days. A very nice hotel situated in Bellagio by Lake Como, we had a family room with a balcony overlooking the lake and town high street with many places to eat and local shops to explore. Hotel is slightly dated and a needy improvement needs to be addressed.
The family room was spacious and clean, bathroom was ok but the shower cubicle was very tiny. There is no coffee or tea making facility. You are able to dine in or outside the restaurant. There is a ferry service yards from the hotel to visit other towns on Lake Como and a trip to Varenna to catch the train to Milan.
A very nice place to enjoy a relaxing short vacation.

Awful experience, miserable and very rude staff who were not interested in their customers concerns or queries whatsoever. The room was pokey even by European standards, the shower cubicle was ridiculous, and we are not tall or large people. Breakfast was average at best, poor selection, staff nowhere to be seen and awful self-serve coffee from a machine. So disappointed. Booked this at the last minute as everywhere else was booked, staying here took the shine of Bellagio which is a beautiful place (we visited 10yrs ago and stayed in an apartment, which was fabulous). Not a 3 star hotel, 2 is a more realistic and honest rating in our opinion, we’ve stayed in a lot of hotels around the world. Stay somewhere else if you visit Bellagio - not the Metropole.

Cordiali saluti Hotel Metropole Staff

In Bellagio for the day and, thankfully, not staying at this hotel. We did stop here for lunch at lovely lakeside cafe. Husband was served a beautiful pizza, it my avacado and shrimp was inedible. Small Asian shrimp, barely thawed and ina “sauce” for 17 euro. I can’t eat such a thing - the shrimp were doughy and barely thawed. I reordered a caprese, which was just fine. They charged me for both. Clearly, they don’t rely on repeat business base on location. But you have other choices - avoid this place.

Our stay at the Metropole Bellagio needed to be longer. Friends had other very nice rooms, but ours was magnificent! Room 111 is one of two (I believe 110 is the other) on the first floor (one up from ground) with giant terraces overlooking Lake Como. The room itself was like a palace room, spacious, two large floor to ceiling doors opening to the huge private terrace. The view of Lake Como was commanding day and night. Room service offerings at arrival were elegant and delicious. Our waterside dinner here was perfection. When asking about limoncello after dinner....our waiter emerged with a house-hidden version, in which he happily joined us for a toast. Front desk service, suggestions for mid-lake travel, shopping, dining were outstanding. A 12 on a 1-10 scale. Included breakfast was spectacular......Coffee/Espresso offerings were topnotch.

There is no train station in Bellagio We went from Venice to Varenna and then the 15 min ferry to Bellagio. If you go by train to Como it’s a much longer ferry ride (1 1/2 to 2 hours) depending on which ferry. Much easier to go through to Varenna it was so easy and it’s a beautiful cheap ferry ride and regular schedule. Most hotels in Bellagio are within walking distance of the ferry Cheers Deb

Nothing in room. We brought a travel kettle & borrowed cups from hotel. They also let us take a small jug of milk at breakfast which we put in fridge in room.

Is it expensive to visit the other towns by boat from this hotel, or do you have more options if you stay in Como?

Hi - it is very easy to visit other towns on Lake Como from this hotel by ferry - the ferry station is literally right outside the door. We bought some kind of hop on/off pass - it was not expensive. We didn't go to Como so I cannot comment on that. We went to Menaggio & Varenna.

The hotel itself does not have parking. However, we were able to find parking for a vehicle about half a mile away. The parking we found was free (on the road into town); there is also paid parking that is much closer to the hotel.
