Beautiful small hotel directly on the lake. Rooms with balcony or terrace have a magnificent view across the lake. A perfect spot to wind down. The staff is super friendly and accommodating. Very familiar feeling. Great restaurant. Varenna itself is absolutely beautiful and charming and worth a longer stay rather than just a stop on the boat.
We stayed for 3 nights at Hotel Albergo Milano. Firstly, the positives. It has a fantastic location and amazing views. The terrace also looks very nice, though we had heavy rain on our visit so we were unable to enjoy it. It’s an iconic hotel in a great location. We hired the bedroom with a large terrace, and found it to be in poor condition. The sofa was stained, the linen very tired, and overall the standard of cleanliness was not commensurate to the price. Pictures attached. The hotel offered a replacement room, which in fairness was significantly better, but offered no compensation for the quality of the first room (charging me the full rate, despite admitting it was not adequate), and the hassle of packing up luggage and unpacking (though the hotel did help move the bags). Even a half bottle of wine, or a drink at the bar, would have left a less bitter taste in my mouth. My biggest frustration with the hotel was not however the room, or move, it was the service. We genuinely felt a nuisance, and in one email the owner accused me of overplaying the state of the first property with the terrace in order to leave a night early due to the weather?! Judge the pictures for yourself. Overall I found the service cold and unwelcoming, and was pleased to be leaving. I cannot understand how a hotel who prides itself on service and cleanliness could offer the initial room for occupancy in the first place. It took me to formally complain and request an early departure for the owner to address the issues (she confirmed in email, following my compliant, that they would address the issues). I would also personally skip breakfast and get a coffee and croissant in town. We found better (and cheaper) options outside the hotel, within a short 50/100yard walk. I will not be returning anytime soon. …
Wow! This was a great stay for our two nights honeymoon. Rooms are basic but have everything you need. We were lucky enough to have a veranda with sun loungers to relax on with the most magnificent view! Breakfast was plentiful- with Covid this was all delivered to your table but there was still plenty of choice so it worked well. We will certainly return again soon! Thank you! 👍🏼🌟
It's been a long time dream to visit Lake Como! Though I didn't see George Clooney, I had a wonderful stay at this cute hotel in October. It was the perfect location in this charming town. I'm SO glad I opted to stay in Varenna versus touristy Bellagio. The service was spectacular! The food at the restaurant for both breakfast and dinner was really great! And the view from my room was the dream view I'd always hoped for. ("dbl room frontal lake view balcony"). I highly recommend this spot... it's an oasis to come back to after exploring the area. Lots of wonderful restaurants just a stone's throw from this hotel as well.
We had a rental car, and the hotel told us they had a place for us to stop and unload our bags, but they don't! It is actually a very busy street and we were afraid we would be rear-ended. People honked and yelled at us for stopping there. Then we had to wheel our bags down a steep cobblestone street to get to the hotel. The alternate is parking at the public lot and then wheeling your bags about 10 blocks over cobblestones and up and down stairs. All that, and the reception staff was not friendly and our room was very small, even though we paid extra for a partial lake view. All in all, very disappointing. The only bright spot was the restaurant, where we had a very nice dinner.
