Hotel Astoria garners mixed reactions when it comes to value, with guests appreciating the delectable cuisine and stunning vistas, yet some take issue with the pricing and billing practices. The hotel's cleanliness receives accolades, as visitors enjoy pristine accommodations and a well-maintained pool area. While opinions on the room quality vary, ranging from cramped to comfortable with impressive lake views, the ambiance is noted as slightly dated but still charming, enhanced by its balconies and prime location. Many have lauded the hotel's central position, making it easy to explore Stresa and its attractions. The service at Astoria is often commended for its friendliness and attentiveness, despite occasional inconsistencies. Finally, guests generally approve of the amenities provided, though some suggest the gym and spa could benefit from improvements.

Writing this review was not easy for me because this hotel reminds me, as in the film the great beauty, a nobility now old and decadent linked to what, perhaps, were the glories of the past.
The positives are definitely the location, a short walk from the center of Stresa, the free parking although sometimes a bit 'too crowded, varied breakfast, hearty and good quality. Also good service offered by the waiting staff, as well as that of the internal bar.
The rooms are quite large and comfortable, but the services offered are not always up to scratch. In the bathroom beyond the soaps and the bubble bath there is nothing, we had to ask for the shower cap, and the phone is of bad workmanship. The TV is tiny and poorly positioned, but above all the cleanliness is not the best, as soon as we entered we found hair and hair not ours and especially the ants that ran around everywhere. Solving the problem took two days of complaints at the desk. In this regard, I am sorry to say, the reception staff, with one exception, is completely unprepared and unable to understand, manage and resolve guest problems.
Beautiful pool but inadequate gym and especially you miss a spa.
The food served in the restaurant is medium quality, in desserts are very good.
A special thanks I have to do to Adi, he really bends over backwards, sometimes even filling roles not his, to meet the needs of hotel guests.
In short, from such a hotel I would have expected much more, also because the stay here is not that they give it to you, far from it.

The hotel Astoria is just a spectacular hotel, over looking the lake and central for Stresa, we had a balcony view. The staff were amazing and looked & cared for all our comfort and so friendly, having stayed here will be remembered by us for ever. We had a very relaxing time, the food was very high quality and the rooms were spotless, and bedding renewed every other day. This was a much appreciated value for money stay and a must go back, so much to do and see. Highly recommended.

The location is perfect for getting around, perfectly central on thrmlake. That's it, the rest isn't worth it

It's amazing that there are so many old but fab hotels, even next door both sides and this hotel has just been ig ored by its owners or management to the point it is just a run down place to sleep, so much potential and ignored

The rooms are deab and dated, and tiny, if they were tiny and well appointed, you could forgive it bit they are just tiny and old fashioned. The bathroom with the plastic tiny shower was hard to get into, amenities only 'soap' and a shower gel,and those offensive environmentally unfriendly ones. Towels were rough and thin, not terry and not absorbant

An unattractive bed spread (really!) and a TV the size of a computer screen

Now let's go to breakfast

Ih dear, it was just a 'feeding' room, no service no style, VERY poor quality mass food, scrambled eggs from a packet mix, cheap ingredients/produce overall, juice from concentrate, cheap tea and coffee, poor variety, just a disgrace

If they upped their game, did a small but not costly renovation to make it more 'today', they could even charge more

The bar... only has ONE cheap brand vodka, ridiculous

Really, there is so much potential, but no one cares, walk past a staff member, sven the front desk, no one e en greets or acknowledges guests

So stuck in the past, it's sad

Lots of options, suggest shopping around

A typical Italian art deco hotel in a fantastic location, right on the lake front in the heart of Stresa. Close to all amenities.
The hotel is so clean and spotless and the rooms are comfortable and spacious. We had a balcony overlooking the Lago Maggiore.
The pool area is lovely and the water is so refreshing without being too cold!
I have to say the food at the hotel is superb, particularly the 4 course evening meal, the waiters are attentive and cheerful, especially Our new friend Claudio!
We would also like to extend our gratitude to the barman Gianluca for his expert advice and friendly demeanor. In fact all the staff were helpful and nothing was too much trouble.
We are sad to be home, but want to thank everyone at Hotel Astoria for such a pleasant holiday. Grazie Mille!
An iron and ironing board and tea and coffee making facilities in the room would be an improvement. But over all a fantastic hotel.
Rob e Louise.

Very nice hotel, superb swimming pool, location on the lakefront, close to all shops, parking possibilities in the hotel but we slept very badly!
Stay at the beginning of May 2024, stifling heat in the room at bedtime, we try to turn on the air conditioning which doesn't work, we open the roller shutter and the window to ventilate because the nights are cooler and we leave it open for 15 minutes then we closes. Woke up after an hour by the stifling heat again, we called reception who told us that in this season the air conditioning was not operational and that we had to open the window, which we had already done! Opening the window alone is useless because the shutter doesn't let any air in and we didn't want to sleep with the window and shutter open so as not to be woken up by the light in the early morning! We had no choice in the end and obviously we were woken up at 5:30 a.m. by the light which was accompanied some time later by the noise of the air conditioning motors / kitchen extractors started for the preparation of breakfast! With room 215, we had to be close to the extractors, so we slept very little and slept poorly!

My mum and I spent 2 weeks at the Astoria June/July 2022 and we really enjoyed it. The room itself was clean and comfortable with a nice balcony and lovely lake view. The staff were all friendly and helpful, especially Claudio in the restaurant who was a real character! We were half-board so ate breakfast and lunch in the hotel everyday and despite being a fussy eater we didn't struggle for food at all, there was a good choice both for the breakfast buffet and the sit-down dinner and the dinner menu was different everyday. The pool area was also excellent, plenty of sunbeds available and parasols for shade and the pool itself whilst small was great for cooling off and has a jacuzzi feature at one end. The location was almost perfect, just a few minutes walk into the centre of Stresa or to the train station. The only real location issue was the beach bar for the the hotel next door where it was a bit loud until around midnight if they had a party or function on (that only happened on 2 nights out of the 14 we were there)

This was our third visit to the Astoria BUT it will be our last.
The hotel is lovely, the location is perfect, the staff excellent. I would give them all 5 stars
But
The problem is during our 2 week holiday there were 5 weddings at the hotel
That's 5 nights of disruption and noise.
The wedding guests take precedent over the hotel guests
The staff try to do their best but face an impossible task
The dining room is either taken over completely by the wedding party and the hotel guests are put in a room at the back
Or the dining room is divided off and some hotel guests are squeezed in one end with portable room dividers. So you are then subjected to riotous noise from the wedding party.
The hotel has a lovely dining room which overlooks the lake, that's what the brochure shows and that's what you expect. We were given a good table with good views of the lake. But when the weddings are on you are turfed out to make room for the wedding so not getting what you paid for.
The hotel owners and management should be ashamed as to how they treat the hotel guests.
Then there is the hotel next door La Palma. It has a beach club right on the lake and on some nights it has parties with extremely loud boom boom music blaring out until 12 midnight.

This happened on 4 of our 14 nights so along with the weddings 9 out of 14 nights disrupted.
If I wanted Boom Boom music I would have gone to Ibiza
You go to the Italian lakes for a quiet relaxing holiday not Discos

We have stayed in Stresa several times but this was our first visit to the Astoria. From the moment we arrived we received excellent, friendly service.
The position on the lakefront is ideal, the lake view room with balcony was very well equipped and comfortably sized rather than large - although it was absolutely fine for two of us for a week.
The hotel facilities including pool and accompanying bar/snacks facility was very good.
We were only in a bed and breakfast basis, however the morning meal was of a high standard with good variety and range.
The outstanding feature throughout was the consistently friendly and effective customer service.
Overall the stay was very good value, especially when compared to other hotels on the lakefront.
We’ll certainly return to The Astoria when visiting Stresa in the future. Thank you and keep up the good work.

We spent a week in July and would recommend & return but on B & B terms as evening meals were not to our liking . The staff are really helpful speaking English . The hotel was built in 1954 and is family run with Italian style decor . Our room was 403 ,overlooking the lake with a balcony & superb views . The room was pale pink and cream , very clean , lovely comfortable twin beds, pushed together , nice linen and soft pillows Electric blinds and thick curtains . Mini fridge , and a safe . Plenty of storage space . No tea making . Hotel can hire adapters , ( 3 pin plugs in a row , which is different to most continental sockets ) We found it quite at night and slept well . I noticed that the hotel was taking delivery of new mattresses , so may be we had a new one . I think the room and bathroom had been refurbished as it was spotless . Shower , with a hand rail and a stool , plus pull alarm and air extraction fan , anti slip mats are available . Lots of hot water ,soap and shampoo provided .

We stayed for a long weekend in this hotel on the lakeside in Stresa. Great environment, great staff, great central location. If possible, choose rooms with a balcony, slightly more expensive, but more well-kept. We got a room with a garden/pool view, small and with an uncomfortable mattress and springs that felt good on your back. The hotel cuisine is good, but the portions that were served to us (perhaps because we were a group and the price could have been lower.....) were just ridiculous. Sin.
